View Full Version : HEAT! Kane and Lynch Hype Train.
BlueCollarGamer 06-22-2009, 03:34 PM Well I got Kane and Lynch some time ago but I haven't had time to play it. IT is Awesome.... not single player, but co-op is bad ass.
K&L is far better than Army of Two. I really can't wait for the sequel.
If someone else has this game look me up and we'll kill the 7 together.
If you have any info on the sequel let me know.
If you didn't like K&L, suck it up and try it again, I think you're wrong.
Kiljoy 06-22-2009, 07:35 PM YES! Finally, someone else who loved the game.
PillowFort 06-22-2009, 08:28 PM You're wrong.
Kiljoy 06-22-2009, 09:25 PM You're wrong.
Oh... omg. You are completely right, what have I done with my life. I... I gotta go.
BlueCollarGamer 06-22-2009, 09:49 PM  So I may be wrong. I still think it is a lot better than have the same old death match after death match. Good story. Good pacing. Funny dialog.
It felt like playing the movie Heat. I love it. But I must be wrong.
GammaFist 06-22-2009, 11:20 PM Maybe the sequel will be better than the first
Bryce 06-23-2009, 10:11 AM I rented the game and loved it, should buy it soon because it should be cheap by now
PillowFort 06-23-2009, 10:17 AM Good story. Good pacing. Funny dialog.I was joking before for the sake of flame-bate, but... now I'm beginning to think you're the one being a troll.
BlueCollarGamer 06-23-2009, 02:31 PM I was joking before for the sake of flame-bate, but... now I'm beginning to think you're the one being a troll.
Who cares... I like the game.... THE END!
Dakkster 06-23-2009, 03:17 PM I thought the game had a great premise and some of the levels were really unique and inspiring. Doing the bank robbery in co-op was hilarious when Lynch started hallucinating. Sadly, I thought there was something significant missing and I think it was just a general polish level. The controls were really off. The aiming system was off. It had SOME good narrative, but most of it felt stilted and rushed. It had a lot of potential, but IO Interactive couldn't tie it all together. It's a decent game, not bad, not awesome - just okay.

Well you can either
A. Give a reason why you don't like the game, so he can discuss it.
or
B. Shut up and leave.
Pretty simple.
PillowFort 06-23-2009, 04:01 PM Give a reason why you don't like the game, so he can discuss it.
Okay, I'll bite.
There's a significant confusion with the term "good story" and "interesting premise".
The distinction between the two is that when something is a good story, it delivers on the ideas it raises. When it's simply an interesting premise, there's a solid backbone but nothing is fleshed out enough or really given a proper conclusion.
Kane and Lynch is a game I'd like to enjoy, being why I purchased it first day, two characters that don't conform to videogame standards, one realising that he needs to die but has more to accomplish before he lets it happen, another haunted by his psychotic past that may or may not have led to murdering his wife.
There's so much to do right, but unfortunately suffered from being secondary to the game's main action. Which, by the way, is not the developer's forte. K&L runs on the same engine as the last hitman game, and I'm not sure if you've ever tried to go the guns blazing route with that. Unsatisfying.
My main gripe is that this was the wrong medium for this game. It was better suited to a feature film and required a much better script than it got.
Oh, I thought I was finished here but he also mentioned pacing and dialogue?
The dialogue is almost entirely consistent of the same level of "angry dudes shouting obscenities" throughout and the pacing is all over the place. There are few rises and falls, there's very minimal emotionality.
I would love to like this game, but it's just not very good.
And... I've been trolled, haven't I?
Seriously, you guys have to have another agenda to say that this was a decent experience.
[edit] does it even end properly? Does he even catch the people after the daughter dies?

No I wasn't trolling you, I was a little surprised you gave a real response. So unless we both got trolled by the guy I think you're safe.
PillowFort 06-23-2009, 08:25 PM I was a little surprised you gave a real response. I'm a bored, semi-professional writer.
Responses are some of the services I provide.
Kiljoy 06-23-2009, 09:34 PM touche sir, touche.
BlueCollarGamer 06-23-2009, 10:46 PM Look, like I said, I did and am enjoying the game. I think it is better than most people give it credit for. I am excited that there will be a sequel. I wanted to know if others felt the same way and wanted to play some co-op or knew anything about the sequel. I haven't finished the game yet, but I now know things I wish I didn't.
I get the feeling PillowFort has some kind of personal problem with me and anything I have to say. You should deal with that. I'm glad you bought the game launch day, someone was going to. I bought it like a month ago and it was a good deal for 15 bucks.
I'm sorry I wasted your time PillowFort. Next time don't read what I have to say.
PillowFort 06-24-2009, 08:05 AM I get the feeling PillowFort has some kind of personal problem with me and anything I have to say.It has never even registered with me who you are, days from now I'm not even going to be able to remember this thread. Some would find statements like yours incredibly self-serving and arrogant, whereas I'm too awesome and the best person ever to be worried about such things.
I'm sorry I wasted your time PillowFort. Next time don't read what I have to say.your request is fulfilled retroactively.
TheBlackSpank 06-26-2009, 04:30 AM I absolutely hated this game. The bank robbery level was entertaining, and that did feel like playing through Heat. The rest was just running through the levels shooting people, with a totally uninspired storyline, dialogue written by a foul mouthed 12 year old, and the worst, anti-climactic ending of any game I remember playing. The aiming is awkward and clunky, and the shotgun might as well be a friggin sniper rifle with its completely ridiculous range.
Army of Two wasn't great, but it was at least fun, and had some cool co-op mechanics. This game was actually a chore for me and my friend to get through. But we did, and then I got rid of it.
The multiplayer is interesting, and I think it's a start in a good direction. Everything else meeds to be thrown out and redone.
karizmatkstalyn 06-26-2009, 08:38 AM  So I may be wrong. I still think it is a lot better than have the same old death match after death match. Good story. Good pacing. Funny dialog.

Calling the dialogue funny is just an excuse for it being horrible. Its funny for an 11 year old when they use f*ck every third word but it just got obnoxious for me.
BlueCollarGamer 06-26-2009, 10:27 AM OK. Maybe I was having fun with my friends and didn't notice all this stuff. I haven't finished the game, so I don't know about the ending. I had a blast with my friends taking turns.
I did say I didn't enjoy the game by myself, so I'm starting to think I was wrong.
I do think the sequel could be better. I did have a great time with the game but this thread is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
oh well...... so the Gamerverse think another game sucks.... what else is new?
Kiljoy 06-26-2009, 10:34 AM Don't let other people dictate whether you had fun, I enjoyed the game despite all these people.
BlueCollarGamer 06-26-2009, 05:52 PM Don't let other people dictate whether you had fun, I enjoyed the game despite all these people.
I will. I was just saying that I might enjoy games more with friends than they truly deserve. :w00t: We had complains too, but we didn't think that it killed the game.
For example, where they place check points. We died in one part of the game often but the checkpoint seemed to be located at ever 10 paces. Then later in the game we'd play for ten minutes and die.... NO Checkpoint!
But you have to take the good with the bad. It seems to me that gamers want to complain about anything and everything. I feel a game has to classes.... FUN and NOT FUN.
K&L FUN
COD 4 FUN
HALO 3 (I cannot believe I am saying this) FUN
Legendary NOT FUN
Turning Point NOT FUN
Any game you play that is so broken/dull that you can't finish it are really the only ones worth saying they are bad.
I really just wrote this thread to see if anyone had heard anything about the sequel...... the lack of responses about this leaves me with little hope for that objective being met.
Bauer22 06-27-2009, 02:37 AM I refused to play it because of the whole GameSpot event.
BlueCollarGamer 06-27-2009, 07:28 AM I refused to play it because of the whole GameSpot event.
Please do go on......
TheBlackSpank 06-27-2009, 07:37 AM A reviewer was fired like a couple days after giving Kane & Lynch a shitty review. There were ads for the game all over the site, and rumor has it that they fired him for reviewing it poorly.
PillowFort 06-27-2009, 09:13 AM I'd be bitter about that.
But dude went on to start GiantBomb.
I love giantbomb.
bunny roses 06-27-2009, 12:37 PM i have the demo, it crashed my ps3 and i had too pay for a new one.... D :

MeRcEnArY 06-30-2009, 07:19 AM Im enjoying playing this in small chuncks ATM.
But i do like Army of two more.
I really want to try the co-op, but my other friends hate it lol.
Its about a 3/5 for me. (bear in mind that i would give Fable2 pubgames a 4/5  )
BlueCollarGamer 06-30-2009, 10:08 AM Its about a 3/5 for me. (bear in mind that i would give Fable2 pubgames a 4/5  )
I really liked to pub games too. for me a game is pass or fail. I think K&L passed.
Kiljoy 06-30-2009, 10:23 AM As far as the Gamespot incident, I think anyone who boycotts Kane and Lynch, and by extension, Eidos, misses the point. Yes if all that is true it was BS, but Eidos is not to blame, put your hate on Gamespot, Eidos had every right to pull their advertising.
