Hi

I've been playing the world ends with you and metal gear solid 2 & 3 recently and i've really enjoyed the games so i thought i might try and hunt down the CD's and it seems like the only place you can get em is places like play-asia. Have any of you bought any game soundtracks? Have you found a place which sells the cds for a cheaper price? I dont care if i can get torrents etc. I like having the physical disc and im sure it'll be worth something in a couple years.

Hmmm never bought a game soundtrack though I wouldn't rule it out. I think I'd spring at portal and loz: ocarina of time!

I have the SSBB soundtrack... but it may or may not have been acquired through ways that some people may consider less than legal.

Hard to find in most parts of the UK.

Best bet is the online places I'm afraid.

Yes! One of the major reasons I play games is for the score. I buy the soundtrack of almost every game I like!

If you think that's weird, check out Video Games Live!

I have been twice now and the shows almost always sell out. I also plan to go again if they are in my area. They play different music every time.

I know... It's like a new realm of Nerdland you've never heard of.

Anyways, to answer your question about the purchasing of music: I hate to say it, but iTunes is where I find a lot of mine. =/

Oh god, yes. Shadow of the Colossus, Dead Space, Hexen II, Halo II, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy III/VI, to name a few. I love 'em, and listen to them all the time.

Kinda odd. I purchased the soundtrack for Metal Gear Solid and GTAIV without even trying to get it. (it came with the special edition of those games).

And if it counts, my friend hooked me up with a bunch of mp3s of the black mages. so its a bunch of squaresoft and final fantasy stuff.

I don't usually buy most soundracks. the only ones I've purchased are Final Fantasy X and VII, the Kingdom Hearts (1 and 2) albums, and GTA4. I think that's it. I could be wrong though. I did buy "Blow Me Away" by Breaking Benjamin from the Halo 2 album as well, but not the whole thing.

If I hear a good song in a game or movie, I immediately Google something like:

'song in scene 6 underworld: revolution'

I don't want to have to download a full album of songs I might not necessarily like, just to get the good song that I like.

I do have full albums, though. I have all 3 Matrix movies' soundtracks, the Halo 3 soundtrack, and the Mirror's Edge soundtrack.

ye i remember playing through halo 2 and then that song suddenly comes on. Its an awsum song and i didnt realise they did it until my friend played it to me and i instantly knew it was from halo 2.

If it has really good music, then yes, but not because the game has a ton of appeal; Take Halo 3 for example, I would never see myself listening to music from that game on my normal life, but I have the Afro Samurai Soundtrack and that I listen to when I get a chance because is good music that works outside the game.

If there's a version of a game that comes with a soundtrack, I'll spring for that. Aside from that, there's not a whole lot of games I've bought the soundtrack for.

I was a member of Nintendo Power when they sent out soundtracks for Majora's Mask. I still love that one.

Ye Nintendo used to let you download a couple songs from various games for star points on the european store. Unfortunately they've stopped doing it now but it was good when they were doing it.

I've got quite a few VG soundtracks, but I got them off of iTunes, and the physical game discs themselves with older games.

I never have never will... unless they come out with one for portal! But all the soundtracks are usually bad. Like for guitar hero they put all of the bad songs on the soundtrack cd.

I bought the Orange Box soundtrack, and I ripped the Oblivion and Smash Bros. Soundtracks from their respective discs. Okay, the last one I got from someone else, but it was still on the disc I own!

Those are the only soundtracks I own, although I listen to a lot of (free!) remixes from various Nintendo games and Final Fantasy. I once looked into getting the soundtrack for Wind Waker, but I still can't find it on iTunes.

I usually get the soundtrack as part of Collector's Editions.
Unfortunately, too many game soundtracks lack real character, choosing to have the same overused grandiose orchestral style.

The soundtracks that really stand out for me are: Grim Fandango, Civilization 4, GTA series, and Star Control 2. Halo and Orange Box have some great songs, but also some that fall into the dramatic cliche.

I don't buy them per se, but they just keep magically appearing on my hard drive.

Yeah, I have a bunch of soundtracks:
Complete almost 400 song Brawl soundtrack
Melee Smashing Live CD (orchestrated)
Ocarina of Time Japanese edition soundtrack
Hyrule Symphony (Ocarina of Time orchestrated)
Zelda: Sound and Drama (orchestral soundtrack for the first Zelda game, along with the normal soundtrack to Link to the Past)
Nintendo Sound Selections: Peach Healing (a nice, relaxing collection of Nintendo songs)
Official Starcraft Soundtrack
Age of Empires Soundtrack
The Orange Box soundtrack (actually legally own, since it came with Audiosurf on Steam)
Mario Galaxy 2-disc Platinum edition orchestrated soundtrack
Mario 64 Soundtrack
Piano Squall's GAME CD
Video Games Live CD (I've been to their concert the one year they came to STL, it was so much fun, I was really sad they weren't coming back for their 2009 tour)
