View Full Version : GOTY 2007
animathias 12-05-2007, 07:05 AM Sorry for the double post
-----
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most, if not all the big hit games have been released to the public. Now it's just a few short weeks to Xmas, and we'll be sliding into 2008. Shane86 over in the News forum mentioned someone should make a poll discussing this. I thought "That's a darn good idea". So here I am. Pick your favorite (sorry if it's not on there, there's only 10 slots, and umpteen million games of '07). I'm a 360 guy myself, but I tried to be unbiased while making the list.
Spudnik 12-05-2007, 07:09 AM Why the hell is Bioshock not up there?
CaptnKiller 12-05-2007, 07:11 AM I personally prefer Mass Effect. The story in that game was freaking awesome!
2nd place would be Orange box because portal is great and the cake is not a lie.
animathias 12-05-2007, 07:15 AM *slaps self* I forgot Bioshock, my bad. Like I said, too many games and I wanted to give as much equal love to the consoles as possible.
chrispenny 12-05-2007, 07:21 AM ... Well you can't really have a GOTY poll if you don't have some of the years top rated games.
Spudnik 12-05-2007, 07:22 AM Thats ok, I just looked at the list and everything seemed right except no Bioshock.
CaptnKiller 12-05-2007, 07:24 AM Well what would he take down? Zelda? Or should it be allowed to exceed the cap of 10?
keith22 12-05-2007, 07:24 AM WTF where is bioshock. OMG lol Why do you even have halo 3 lol it sucks, as for story bioshock wins, gfx crysis as for deal of the centuray great content orange box
chrispenny 12-05-2007, 07:32 AM You could definitely replace Rock Band with BioShock.
animathias 12-05-2007, 07:33 AM Halo 3 has a 93.2% rating on Gamerankings. It doesn't suck. Once again, I apologize for forgetting Bioshock. I myself have played through it and loved it, but with the 5 minute limit to post the poll and the 10 space limit, I was a bit crunched in making the list.
You could definitely replace Rock Band with BioShock.
Yeah, that or Phantom Hourglass (great game, but lost in the rush).
piston11792 12-05-2007, 07:38 AM spudnik is right, bioshock was one of the most entertaining games ive ever played. While it may not pass cod4, in my opinion, it is an easy second place for me.
MadMikeMan 12-05-2007, 07:45 AM i said mass effect, I havn't played COD 4 yet though, but so far ME seems better than halo and bioshock.
strika234 12-05-2007, 08:43 AM you just can't beat mass effect's story.
MadMikeMan 12-05-2007, 08:45 AM yes, but mass effect has a short story, I think ME would be a defininte win if it had co op and longer story.
animathias 12-05-2007, 09:55 AM co-op in Mass Effect would've been nasty good. A longer story would've been cool, but I think it suffers from being the first of 3.
V3NOM 12-05-2007, 10:11 AM I voted Halo 3.
*prepares for flame barrage*
And not just because Bungie shamelessly kinda-sorta hinted at offering Recon armor to voters if Halo 3 wins. I actually genuinely love the game.

I haven't played Halo 3 much since Orange Box and CoD4 were released, but I understand it has a huge following and is an above average game with fun multiplayer. I considered leaving it off the list, but as many people who hate it, there are dozens who love it.
animathias 12-05-2007, 04:44 PM What the heck?
animathias 12-05-2007, 04:45 PM These posts should be down below
animathias 12-05-2007, 04:46 PM On page 3. I apologize, though I don't think this spam of 3 posts will make much difference. Strange they appeared near the top of page 2, and not the bottom of 3.
animathias 12-05-2007, 04:55 PM Bioshock has 5 votes
manick360 12-05-2007, 05:23 PM on gamerankings.com super mario galaxy was given a 97.5% although i hate it dont think nintendo could pay gameranking so much that the game would have been no2 highest of all time so far
strika234 12-05-2007, 05:27 PM yes, but mass effect has a short story, I think ME would be a defininte win if it had co op and longer story.
How would you do co-op dialogue?
RawSwedishpoweR 12-05-2007, 05:41 PM CoD4! :D
Shane86 12-05-2007, 07:37 PM I vote bioshock

There's something wrong with the forums right now. The topics and posts are all jumbled up.
animathias 12-05-2007, 09:56 PM Is this working now?
iPlayPC 12-05-2007, 10:41 PM Orange Box!!!!! I'm a Cheap-ass SOAB

Too bad
MightyMutt 12-07-2007, 12:44 PM Have to say Mass Effect. I haven't played another game since it came out. But Soap and Gordan Freeman are going to war for second place and already left Master Chief in thet wake. Who would have thought that Halo 3 wouldn't even be in my top three by the end of the year?
Although to be honest I'm not sure Orange Box should be in the running as it re-releases and bit parts. As great as Portal is its very short.
Kiljoy 12-07-2007, 12:57 PM GO Uncharted, great story, great characters, great game.
COD 4 for a great but rather short sp and a superb multiplayer despite the tons of grenades. Those nades always catch me off guard.. :(
wazomike 12-16-2007, 03:32 PM Dude, get Bioshock on there, like now. Not that the other games are bad, it just... COME ON!
thegamer 12-16-2007, 03:33 PM what the hell? i thought God of War 2 would definetly be on there. i thought that game was the ps2s greatest game yet.
Freestyle 12-16-2007, 05:20 PM Dang....this is a tough one. I would say Assassins Creed, but the god awful story and repetivness drags it down. CoD4 is fun but it's shorter then Gary Coleman. Rock Band cost too much. Halo 3 is good but not GOTY material. Haven't played Mass Effect enough to say anything. Metroid Prime 3 was great but the little Fuel Cell hunt near the end sucked ass. Orange Box is the best deal in Video Game history but i can't give a GOTY to a game where half of it has been out for more then a year. So my GOTY goes to Super Mario Galaxy......It probaly would of been Bioshock...but *GASP* it's not on here....LoL JK.
Diortem 12-16-2007, 09:20 PM I dont think I can pick any one GOTY... my tastes dont cover enough ganras to finalize like that, but if I had to select the finalists:
1) Metroid Prime 3 - Reinventing control schemes and doing it well counts for something. I dont know if it deserves GOTY, but it does deserve mention for moving things ahead in that regard.
2) COD4 - NOT my kind of game, but Ive seen more then enough to say this game would deserve it.
3) Mario Galaxy - To be honest, I cringed when I tried this and Mario decided to run with his arms out like a 4 year old or a retard playing airplane. Brought back old impressions of why I didnt even really try Mario 64. But all in all, the game controls AWESOME and feels right for a game. Period. This has potential.
4) Portal - Honestly, this is probably my pick in total. New mechanics, new awesome puzzles, and an insane computer that is like Shodan on Happy pills. THIS in my mind, wins.
5) Crysis - Great game that pushes the power like so many WANT to say they do and hasnt really been done since Gear of War. Well deserved for at least runner up.
Now games I dont believe should be nominated:
1) Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Ok, so it JUST squeaked in time-wise, but as good as the game is, it has a few GLAIRING flaws that I cant accept. THIS review (http://madoverlord.livejournal.com/134859.html) explains my view perfectly.
2) Bioshock - I WOULD have and loved to have put this in my nominees, but when a distributor basically treats one of it's platforms like criminals AND the copyprotection only seems to work to keep paying players from reinstalling it to their PCs, I think that's an automatic disqualification.
3) Halo 3 - Average game... sorry... that's it.
zbiggie 12-17-2007, 10:17 PM bioshock
Griffin999 12-18-2007, 01:48 PM halo 3... maybe bioshock or mass effect or galaxy or metroid and orange box was o-k... yeh thats it those all deserve it
nicknitro99m 12-20-2007, 07:08 PM 2007 game of the year there are too many good games this year. I always liked bioware's rpgs like KOTRI and Neverwinter Nights, and Mass Effect was no dissappointment. but, I also enjoyed Uncharted: Drake's fortune. I will go with Mass Effect for my game of the year. Bioshock, it was a good game with superb graphics and the plasmids were pretty cool especially the bees. But, it was too easy I like a little more of a challenge from games and the fact you immediately respawn after you die with all your items and money kind of takes the challenge from the game.
