I really want to take part in Extra Life '09.

Last year I wasn't able to take part as I asked my parents and they said there was now way I was going to game for 24 hours. Due to my lack of good timing I didn't have enough time to try and convince them before the event.

I do not want a repeat of those events this year so I am asking for any advice on convincing two parents with the idea that gaming is bad for your health to allow me to do the 24 hours of gaming.

It's not like I'm asking them to let me do the 24 hours straight I split it into two 12 hour half's one on the day and the make-up. I then posed it as doing the 24 hours over the course of two weeks with larger sections on the event days, and they still said no.

Please help me SGC! Your my only hope of a happy Extra Life!!!

You have like 2 weeks to complete the 24 hours not just the 2 days. Do some chores or something, that should change there mind.

Yeah I would explain the premise to them before mentioning the gaming marathon part. When I go around and talk about Extra Life I always mention it's a worldwide event and that anyone can do it, not just gamers. I find people who can play chess and poker for hours, so it's almost the same thing. Also, no one is tying you down to play 24 hours straight. A good portion of my time last year was spent either getting/cooking food or relocating to a new place to continue playing games.

Probably a good way is to convince some friends to take part and mention the plans to your parents. Kind of the "they are doing it, so it should be ok if I do it" plan. If you talk about how your fundraising is going, I'm sure they will see it in more of a positive light. Remember, the important part of Extra Life is the generous donations made from all the kind people believing the cause. The gaming part is just the excuse.

That sounds great I'll try it and say what happens once I ask them.

Thanks!!!
