Today's news? Warren Spector's Epic Mickey is said to be coming to the wii. For those of you wondering who Spector is, he is a game designer who has worked on such hit titles as Thief, Deus Ex, and System Shock. With that kind of track record, I've got my hopes up. Also yes the mickey in the title of the game refers to Disney's Mickey Mouse. Needless to say, this could turn out to be interesting

Im kinda weary of this, JUST by who is making it. Did he work on Bioshock as well? If not, then my fears go away (the game may have been good, but it's sad when the group's first game since 1999 didnt even have a new story). Im just nervous of seeing System Shock 2 with some hokey character taking Shodan's throne.

I looked up his IMDB page (right here if you want to see it (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0998582/)) and no he did not work on Bioshock. Although it appears he did work on a couple of the Ultima games and Wing commander as well.

Wing Commander and Ultima are good... I just wanted to see he left before they did Bioshock so I could confirm we WONT just get a re-inmagined System Shock 2. (Cause as good as Bioshock is, that's exactly what it is.)

Good to know. I have to wonder what kind of wordplay and verbal dancing they had to pull off to convince Disney to do this. I mean they were hesitant to put Mickey in Kingdom hearts, where he was portrayed as a good guy. And now we have this, the darkest Disney game I have ever seen, with these morbid steampunk creations and this crazy portrayal of disney land. Seriously there must have been quite a few behind the scenes negotiations going on before this game got the green light.

its on the wii? Then it probably won't sell well. Thats not me being a dick, but it probably wont. I would buy it if it came on the PS3/360/PC

I've been keeping an eye on this for a bit, the concept art creeps me the **** out, but in a good way. This is one of the few Wii games I am really looking forward to.

Game Informer is having a cover story this month, I can't wait to hear more details! Also, about the looking glass wars, I don't think Disney owns Wonderland, do they? Wonderland besides the Disney movie was always a dark place wasn't it. Woah, I kinda passed over the game as a stupid Disney Wii game, but after seeing the concept art, I'm cautiously optimistic. It's supposed to be a platformer, which is good. I read that it was about obscure Disney characters trying to revolt against Mickey, which sounded amazing. But then I realized you played as/on the side of Mickey. It would have been so much cooler if Mickey was portrayed as the dictatorial overlord of Disney, with obscure buried characters trying to get their revenge. That would be awesome.

Man...this makes me not so angry that they bought Marvel...this might make me dust off the Wii we have in the basement...

I totally agree with this, although a Disney game would be better marketed towards a younger audience. Kingdom Hearts is an exception because it's much darker...so yeah, this game might do a lot better on the PS3 or 360. It'd be most likely to be on the PS3, though, as the Sony consoles have hosted many a Kingdom Hearts iteration. (3 or 4 out of 5 or 6., methinks)

honestly i have to completely agree im still waiting for the legit Kingdom Hearts 3 to get released and no i'm not talking about the DS or PSP games. And I am definitely looking for reasons to play my PS3 besides as a Blu-Ray player

I know they have their reasons probably the obviously huge built in fan base that comes with the wii put mickey's name on a game and people that own a wii will buy

Somehow, I doubt this will be targeted towards the normal fanbase of Disney. I mean did you see those steampunk monstrosoties? And those were only 2 pictures out of many for the concept art.

true, true lol but if not for the fanbase then the only logical reason would most likely be for the okami like paint controls that are rumored to be within the game perhaps

Ok heres what the REAL story is.Oswald The Lucky Rabbit was a Disney chracter before the 1930's which was when mickey Mouse was created. People loved Mickey so much that Oswald was shunned from the world and forgotten by almost everyone. In the story of Epic Mickey Yensid (spell it backwards) makes a beautiful world for his forgotten creations and Oswald is its earliest resident. The world bears an uncanny similarity to a certain Disney theme park and its many attractions.
This world sit on a table in Yensid's study as a model.Stepping through a magic mirror in his home, Mickey stumbles into Yensid's study and becomes facinated with the modeled world. After Yensid leaves Mickey fiddles with the model and accidently spills paint on the newly minted world. Hearing Yensid's return Mickey hurriedly cleans up and flees back to his home. Mickey's spill turns Yensid's wonderous world into a wasteland controlled by Phantom Blot.

I think you are kinda wrong here... there is more then enough power here to handle 3d gameplay with stylized graphic art. Hell if anything, style is what saves it graphically when looking at what else is out there.

Lol, a bit? Dude, there is nothing stylish about the actual game. It's just bright fairy colours with no real depth.

After looking at the screen shots I'm a bit disappointed, however it won't keep me from buying this game. If it turns out to suck its going to end up at my local gamestop.

But don't you get a slight sense that as well as the obvious graphical limitations, disney have also chickened out? The devs had a vision which came through the concept art, but then some bigwig at disney looked at it and went, "when we said a new direction for mickey, we didn't mean that much!" and so it was scaled back slightly. I mean some of that early stuff would have the given the game a (relatively) high rating.

....Valve offered refunds on pre-orderd GTA4 games through steam.... however good the game is, it is a code-wise pile of shit the mass of which would make Devestator quake in terror.

hey if further down the line it turns out to be a really good game, i'll edmit that i was wrong on my judgement but the idea of disney making a good game is just laughable. I like the idea as it seems like more a dark twist to take a disney game though it seems like an attempt to make mickey as popular as mario.

Normally I'd agree with you, if it weren't for Kingdom Hearts. Square's absense in this, however, combined with the already lame-looking screenshots, mean that you're probably right and I'll probably not get it.

Yeah, agreed. No way this'll be very good after seeing the actual screens. If anything, we can all save the concept art and value it as really cool fanart?
