Hit the jump for an SG Review… but not as you know it.
So, Sacred 2, huh?
Yep… Sacred 2.
What is it?
Choosing to ignore your decidedly brusquequestioning tone, Sacred 2 is one of those traditional role-players. Y’know, the type where you play as a heroic quester who spends his or her time peregrinating in a fantasy world? You go around slaying beasts, saving people, that kind of thing.
Did you just use the word ‘peregrinating’?
Yes, and I make no apology for doing so.
So if this is a classic dungeon crawler, I presume there are classes.
Oh yes, a veritable cornucopia of them. An indubitable multitude, a bona fide plethora–
Wow. What is it with you and unnecessarily complex words? Just tell me the classes already!
Right, uh, yes. Of course. Without delving into the exact class names, there are your standard magic, archer and melee classes, as well as one or two ‘all-rounders’. I went for the Shadow Warrior (read: big guy with axe), and found his skin to be suitably impervious to all but the most sharpened of rapiers. Consequently, there wasn’t really much need to buy armor.
But there was armor, right?
Oh yes. Every vendor I encountered had quite the array of mail, leather, axes, swords and the like. All items are marvelously named as well (my favorite weapon was the Adamantine Great Axe of Pain).

How are the spells?
Pretty good, actually. If a little confusing. In fact, the whole game suffers from the lack of a decent tutorial. There’s great depth here, but during my time with the game I found it all a bit overwhelming.
“During my time with the game”. That time wasn’t very long, was it?
I played the game for five hours, co-operatively, and after that time, I found myself getting a bit bored.
Bored?
Yep… I’m presuming you just asked that for clarification purposes?
You really are an insufferable oaf.
Look: I stopped playing after five hours because, despite a deluge of quests, none of them offered anything unique. The fact that quests were growing tiresome so early in the game, suggested that it wasn’t worth continuing.
So the game sucks?
Well, no. Anyone with an insatiable jones for hardcore role-players will no doubt love this game, but it requires a large time investment, and a lot of patience.

How is the co-op, by the way?
Not great. I was the host and found that my budding co-operative comrade got disconnected frequently, lost all his items occasionally, and had all his quests deleted every time we quit.
So, other than the repetitive quests, and some dodgy co-op, is the game playable? Any bugs?
Crash.
That was the sound made by the absolute annihilation of a stone coffin, as my character glitched across the caliginous crypt in which Sacred 2 begins. It didn’t hurt though — my character’s seemingly impenetrable skin helped.
That sounds like a pretty serious bug.
It was, but that was one of the only bugs I saw. The developer might have an underlying prejudice against sarcophaguses.
That seems unlikely.
You never know.
Any other points?
1. The voice acting is so bad, it’s good.
2. There is a location in the game called Happy Cow Farm.
Is it full of happy cows?
Yes.
That’s all I need to know!
Exactly. Sacred 2 is probably the best game ever released, due to it’s inclusion of Happy Cow Farm. So if you like hardcore dungeon crawlers, or love seeing cows with big smiles plastered across their faces, then Sacred 2 is the way to go. It has its fair share of problems, but if you can see past them, then you will find a lot to like here.
