Wow, talk about milking a franchise. Just a year after they and 1300 other gamers helped raise $120,000 to fund pediatric cancer research and treatment, Sarcastic Gamer is gearing up to hold the Extra Life charity gaming marathon again. (Really guys? Annualizing? Maybe they should get Madden as a spokesperson, AMIRITE?)
If you, for some reason, want to support a sequel instead of an original IP, you can sign up to take part right here. Then, find a few people to sponsor you to play games all day Oct. 17. Here's hoping that next time Sarcastic Gamer can find a cure for sequelitis.
I... think they're joking... are they supporting it or just picking it apart? I can't work it out... although it seems unnervingly like the latter... :undecided:
The "franchise" thing makes it seem like a joke though, as this isn't exactly a franchise.
Either way, good to see one of the biggest gaming news sites picking up on EL again.

Yeah...I'm going to assume the writer was "making a funny". It's great to see Joystiq showing some support.

It's sarcasm! I get it, because we are Sarcastic Gamer....
Anyways, that's awesome that they are helping out. We should go post a few comments and thank them for promoting Extra Life.

I dunno man, it's really hard to pick up anything positive coming from that article. I mean I'm pretty laid back dude but this is kinda a serious cause and I think it should be taken seriously no matter where it's coming from.

i just tweeted about this and 2 people immediately were like "they were joking" and then 2 people were like "well duh what charity isnt annual" and 1 RT
i thought they were being a bit 2 harsh maybe took it a little to far
edit the guy who just wrote the article responded to me by saying:
justinmcelroy@photomaster94 You're not serious, are you? Please tell me you're not serious.
in response to me saying
photomaster94: wow joystiq way to be a bitch to SG about extra life http://bit.ly/6YDRt

I get the feeling they were trying to be funny & sarcastic, with a little be of honesty thrown in there. I personally feel that it was done in poor taste. I know I am personally getting sick of all these gaming charity things nowadays. Every time you turn around there's a new one trying to make it popular etc.. But when it comes to the ones (charities) that actually make a difference to both the community & the cause, to pick on them is just kinda sad. But hey, whatta I know?!

I am going out on a limb here...the article is meant to be funny, if not sarcastic. If you listen to the Joystiq podcast you know that all three guys have a good sense of humor. I am sure Justin McElroy meant no disrespect with that article.

The article can't possibly be seriously complaining about $120k raised to fight cancer, and they haven't spoken up about any other recurring charity events (Child's Play), so I'm assuming it's a really lame joke.

Or possibly sarcastic? I am going with that. I will guarantee Joystiq doesn't mean to disrespect SG, and lets face it, Extra Life made it onto their site. I see no complaints with that.

I didn't get it..I can't see any reason NOT to praise the efforts we're making for this event.

Yup that's Justin McElroy for ya!
As a reader from the joystiq blog (also listener of their podcast) I know a bit about that writer. Justin is sarcastic, and loves to joke around. He's funny most of the time and is my favorite writer from the blog.
Don't take the negativity of the post seriously. Justin always tries to make his posts funny, witty, or sarcastic.

I kind of thought it was funny. Plus it's great that Extra Life is getting attention from a big site like Joystiq.
