I am looking into buying my own pc and well I think I found some good or decent specs for it.

Processor AMD Phenom II X4 920(2.8GHz)
Memory 4GB DDR2
Hard Drive 500GB SATAII
Optical Drive 1 22X DL DVD+/-RW Drive
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
Power Supply 580W
Black Raidmax ENZO Gaming Tower + Blue Lighting
2 x PCI-Express x16 (im gonna add another gpu to make it into crossfire mode or whatever its called)

Let me know if this is good enough. Btw this is all gonna cost be $785 dollars but after shipping and taxes itll go up to $896 dollars.

it looks like a decent rig, you are getting a fair retail price but: 1, you can wait for a sale at whatever place you are buying from, best buy members get occasional 10% off sales on virtually everything in the store. 2. if you know how to/someone who can, build your own rig, you can get a high end rig for about the same amount ($850).

That is a good rig with good specs for the money dude. I recommend you get an internally mounted direct CPU fan if your tower has the room. They are dirt cheap, but trust me, you want one.

I dont know much about ATi cards, but aside from that, it sounds like a damn good machine to me.... incidently, I run Crysis at medium just fine on less.... Warhead runs AMAZING... so I wouldnt worry too much.

These are the specs I am thinking of for my first ever hand built pc. I know its not the best but until I get a job and finish up my I.T. degree then I can begin building a real gaming pc so for now all this is is to get my hands dirty learn a bit and upgrade from my 7 year old piece of junk.

Raidmax Smilodon Mid Tower Case w/PSU 500 watts $89.99 Frys

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3P Motherboard $ 99.99 Frys

Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) $65.99 Newegg.com Free shipping

SAMSUNG HDD 500GB $54.99 Newegg.com Free shipping

Radeon HD 4350 512MB $19.99 after $10.00 Mail-In Free shipping
Newegg.com

Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q8200 After Savings: $ 142.00 Frys

Gear Head Internal PATA 20X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW $24.99 Frys

PCI Wireless Card $19.99 Newegg.com

89.99+99.99+65.99+54.99+19.99+142.00+24.99+19.99=5 17.93+Tax ($50. 50) = $568.49

Yes this isnt a gamers pc but I chose this basic setup because in the future the mobo supports core 2 extreme. 8gb ddr3 ram. and the vid cards Can be upgraded easily and the mobo supports crossfire. I am pretty sure I have all the parts of the computer so if im missing something that isnt included in the package of all these parts let me know so I can add it to my list to buy.If yall think I can get more out of using an amd cpu let me know so I can look for deals.

Ok mate, it looks all good, but you forgot to put in your motherboard? All I see is the 2 X PCI-E x16.

Oh, and are you content with the Phenom II X4 920? Maybe you might wanna go for the 940 or 965? The proce difference isn't that much but you can really squeeze out alot of performance from the 965 model.

As for your power supply, you should really increase the power supply, because 580W may be good enough for 1 card, but once you crossfire the card, you will need more power. I suggest you get a 700W PSU.

Last but not least, where are you getting your parts from?

My first post was a factory built custom pc. If you look about 2 post above yours youll see the real specs of the pc im gonna hand build.

OPPS. FAIL. Didnt see that one. Sorry.

Anyway, there is something you should know before getting that mobo. The intel C2QX line, however jaw dropping it may seem, is going to be obsolete, because intel is now looking to move towards the core i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors. So you getting that processor is alright for the time being, but its gonna be tought upgrading it unless you do it within the next year or so.

Basically this is how they're gonna make it.

i9 = 6 core processors
i7 = you've already seen them
i5 = Mainstream high performance similar to the C2QX series
i3 = The current C2Q (like your Q8200) REBRANDED.

There are a bunch of price revamps etc. Might suggest you wait till NEXT month when the i5 processors are released. OR you could make the switch to AMD. BTW, a processor change will warrant a mobo change.

Next up, your graphics card. Although the 4350 is cheap and all, i'll still suggest you go for something more meaty and cheap, like the 4670 512mb. Its cheap (tho slightly more expensive than the 4350) but it does pack a punch.

Once again, the PSU. If you ever upgrade, and decide to go crossfire, i'd really suggest something on the lines of 650-750 W, depending on which graphics card you crossfire.

The motherboard seems alright for the Q8200, but as I mentioned above, you might wanna wait till next month and check out the i5 processors from intel and then choose a mobo.

well the mobo supports c2qx and like i posted earlier its a low budget decent entry level pc with alot of upgrade space for the future. i plan on getting a c2qx within the next year, i also plan on maxing out the ram to 8gb ddr3, when i get some high end gpu's ill upgrade the psu. to me imho it looks like a decent upgradeable future high end pc. let me know what you think.

Well, its pretty decent as it is in its current form if your looking for an upgradeable pc. But, just for the sake of it, you wanna wait till the i5's are released? I know you're probably itching to get the PC :lol: but the i5's give every processor in the C2Q and the C2QX a run for their money. Did I mention its much cheaper too? And remember, you cant upgrade from the C2QX.

Fine this is what Il do then im gonna buy stuff slowly so ill buy the case with the psu the ram the gpu the hdd all the stuff you think is ok.

Personally you might as well just by everything at once. The i5 isn't even available yet and I highly doubt its going to be cheaper than a the Core 2 Q8200. Plus if you are going to get an iX processor you are going to have to find a new motherboard as well and at the moment those boards are more expensive. I say get the stuff you have listed because it is just an entry level PC it will be good to build a cheaper pc so if you screw something up its not going to cost you and arm and a leg to fix it. Also its going to last you a while and by that time something better than the i7 will be available and then you can go for that.

well i am looking at the amd cpu's and well i can get a AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz for $30 more than the q8200 on newegg.

AMDs don't compare to Intels. Its up to you though. The Q8200 is very close to the Phenom stock. If you go with the Phenom you will have to get a different motherboard though.

Yea i know bu the phenom has a bit more power and since I dont plan on overclocking anything anytime soon I figured id ask. I know id have to get a different mobo and the amd one is cheaper and has more things one it.

Then you should go for it. One thing I have learned about building a PC though is to figure out what you want and what you want to pay for it, then go out and find the parts and try not to deviate from the plan. There are so so many different combinations and configurations that you could continuously go in circles about what to get. What you have planned looks pretty good :thumbsup:

Its hard you know I keep finding cpu's that are somewhat more powerful than the previous one I look at but I think I found a good one. The AMD Phenom II X4 810 is at 2.6ghz the bios is locked but even then you can still overclock it to 3.1ghz while keeping it stable. I found a mobo that supports the am3 socket for about $30 less than the one that supports the Q8200. Everything else is still the same but I will see if I can find A better GPU or alteast try and get 2 budget ones and combine them. Let me know what yall think.

that sounds like a worthy rig...but I think it would be more than worth it to shell out an extra $40 or so for a better GPU

To be honest ive been chatting alot with people in pm's and my rig has completely changed and for the better. So the rig posted here is kinda not that one im using so if a mod or someone sees this just lock the thread or delete it. Thanks
