The first rule of price reduction: Never talk about price reduction.

Seriously, how much sense does this make?

Sony's talking about dropping the price of the PS3 by up to $100 in the US. Now, I'm no rocket surgeon, but isn't it a little counter-productive to give your consumers another reason not to go pick up one of your consoles right now? I mean if I'm about to drop 6 bones or more on a game system, and I heard the price might come down later in the summer, I'm waiting.

Seems to me, the first sign of a price drop should have been the pimple-faced kid at Gamestop changing out the price tags. Oh Sony.

I've seen this info quoted out of context and flat out incorrectly over a lot of news feeds... Stringer did not say there would be a price cut by Christmas, the quote about being there at Christmas referred to the PS3 itself. Meaning "sales are so bad we doubt you'll make it to the end of the year, will it be there at the end of the year?" to which he replied "Of course it will" or something to that extent... then internet skimmers spent 1.04456 seconds reading that and started shouting "OMG! PS3 Price drop by Christmas!!!one11!!"

I think Stringer knows the first rule of price drops. And personally, if E3 comes and goes without a price drop announcement, I don't expect one before Christmas.
