Chubbaluphigous 09-27-2009, 11:12 PM $60 becomes the precedent for the price of a partial Halo game, what will the price of the next full Halo game be? If that gets set in, will it spread to all other games? Look at what happened with Braid. Great game, but was the first to be sold for $15. Now lots of games come out at $15.
TamarindLAZ 09-28-2009, 12:09 AM Yay for an early episode! :)
Lono_Lives 09-28-2009, 02:09 AM Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure that I was wrong about the 801.11n standard stuff.... if that made it in the show.
geostar 09-28-2009, 02:15 AM YAYS!!!!!! First time in ages that I've woken up on a monday with an episode to listen to. Will certainly make my day a helluvalot better!
MightyMutt 09-28-2009, 08:35 AM Great show and really good to see it up early - I really needed some cheering up this morning.
In case you missed me posting the info elsewhere - Halo3:ODST (Overly Dumb Sub Title) wasn't a full price game in the UK. That coupled with my Halo3 Multiplayer disc not working properly, not having bought any of the maps (or Halo Wars) and getting some extra play time out of playing this co-op - all means that this was worth a purchase for me.
Not sure the same can be said for everyone but the lower price did have a large influence on me getting the game. I will be interested to see how well the sales of this game do (I'm predicting less than Halo Wars)
One of the problems they face with this game is that the title is confusing the crap out of people - Bungie should note that the average Halo player doesn't know what the hell an ODST is (Although it should also be noted that the average Halo player probably doesn't know much about anything that doesn't involve racist abuse and t-bagging)
Master Johnboy 09-28-2009, 08:55 AM Good show guys, On the point of struggling to find people for odst's fire fight mode.
Take a look at this thread should help you find some people.

lol it was only about 6 or 7 quid off mate, most games come out at £39.99, only some places like HMV actually put games out at £44.99, and ODST was what, £33, £34?
You still have to pay another fiver to get xbox live to get 3/4 of the content that you just spent £34 on, doesn't that annoy you in the slightest? You buy a game, but then you have to spend another lot of money to just access the majority of its content?
Seen as though the single player from what i have heard is pretty average, the majority of the game is in the multiplayer, which you have to pay more money to play...right, sounds like a really worthwhile purchase to me! Not

V33G33 09-28-2009, 06:40 PM Hey guys, love the podcast, been a listener for just under a year now.
Hate for my first post to do this, but I wanted to correct some things you said about ODST (I guess I could be considered kind of a fanboy, since it's the main game I play and I'm an MLG lover, but the main reason is I just hate misinformation).
It's mainly about the maps. You can buy the Mythic maps that came with Halo Wars on XBLM, I did it myself. Second, Halo ODST comes with the second half of the Mythic maps, which are only available if you buy the game, so nobody already has every map that comes on that disc before they buy it.
Now on to more opinionated stuff. I thought that the campaign was the perfect length, for some reason I can't stand Halo campaign for too long, they end up making a map like Cortana in H3. I do agree, though, that the game should have been around the $40-50 range: $30-40 for the expansion-style campaign and firefight, and $10 for the maps (although map packs of that size should be around $5 imo).

Bandus 09-28-2009, 09:15 PM First off I want to say great show. This is for Lono and Dave. It sounds like you both are plane buffs so I am going to send you some pictures of the russian tu-95 Bear that I got while I was on alert in Iceland. They crossed into our airspace to see how fast our response time was and the aircrew got some really good pictures of it. I worked on the KC-135 and they were able to get pretty close to get some good shots. I'll see if I can dig them up and send them to you guys.
bluec1988 09-28-2009, 09:42 PM nice review guys of ODST keep the truth going me and my friends said the same thing it doesnt feel like a full game! The matchmaking should be there 1st free DLC

DanC85 09-29-2009, 04:40 PM I purchased ODST off Amazon.co.uk for £29.95, about £10 cheaper than the usual game price. Are the tides turning and it's you yanks getting ripped off with games for once rather than us?
I personally enjoyed the campaign a lot, although found it a bit easy (found the legendary mode less of a challenge than Halo 3's for some reason), and when I've been able to get a game I've loved firefight. The big problem with this game though that is making me resent the pricetag (even if it wasn't a full price game) and making me doubt the longevity of the game, is the lack of matchmaking - seriously what the **** was Bungie thinking? That's a basic component of any multiplayer game, and it's even more irritating when you consider the fact that previous Halo games have had brilliant matchmaking via the Lobby system
PS. A quid is to pounds, what a buck is to dollars
A Rabid Moose 09-29-2009, 07:49 PM Okay, first things first, I'm a Halo fanboy. I'm not a rabid fanboy, but I give Halo games the benefit of the doubt. I treat Valve games the same way. I think ODST is worth $60 because the changes Bungie made to their engine, while subtle, are competent for a 1 year development period. I can understand why someone who doesn't play Halo as... ...dare I say "religiously" as I do wouldn't find a $60 value with it. The campaign is short, but only if you rush through it. I'm playing it again to find all the qudio logs(on my own, mind you) and I'm having fun. I've probably spent 10-15 hours in firefight, and plan to spend more. The part I disagree completely with is the mini-song after the ODST segment about Bungie screwing us. When Bungie left Microsoft, part of the contract was that Bungie had to make 2 more Halo installments under the Microsoft banner before they could be independent. So, here we have ODST. I'm sure this game would not exist if not for that part of the contract. I'd throw the blame at Microsoft, the publisher, not Bungie the developer.
Rant over.
EDIT: Also, Firefight needs drop in/ drop out co-op more than matchmaking in my opinion.

Really? You're disagreeing with a ten second clip of a parody song? Dude... wow. I'm speechless.
But I get it, I totally disagreed with Weird Al Yankovic's I lost on Jeopardy, I mean, I blame the people behind Jeopardy for making the questions so hard...
So, yeah, I see where you're coming from.:thumbsup:
Spoodge6 09-30-2009, 06:57 AM Great show guys. I think halo is definately being milked and will eventually be like final fantasy where people talk about the earlier games instead of the recent ones.

Nice rant! If you can get +20 hours of fun out of a game, then I think its worth full price. I can understand people complaining who only play the campaign. But how many buy's a Halo for the campaign nowadays...
