What was even more surprising was the fact that almost nobody, including yours truly wouldn’t even give them the benefit of the doubt. Read my editorial here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2007/08/microsoft-loses-cool-again.html).
I’m talking about the 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. It was widely reported (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/gameplay/wirelesswheelretrofit.htm) that there had been instances where the wireless racing wheel releasing smoke from a defective component if it you used it with the AC adapter while you play. While Microsoft took a huge PR hit, they did the right thing and instituted a voluntary recall program to retrofit the allegedly defective devices.

Find out the real story, after the jump!

Turns out, the instances of the defect were so small that the retrofits done by Microsoft could be counted in the single digits.

Overhype?

I guess when your main console suffers from a catastrophic defect that affects a huge percentage of your customers, people get a little jumpy when they hear rumors about your products causing fires…

Allegedly.

That’s why Microsoft’s Hot, Hot, Hot Racing Wheel checks in at number 94 in our top 100 Gaming moments of 2007!

Ironiclly my friends 360 controller broke and he had to use the Wireless Racing Wheel to control all his games until he got a new one. I remeber walking in on him playing CoD 4 and I burst out laughing.
