View Full Version : Xbox 360 Disc Drive Fail!
Fir3truck 10-26-2009, 04:25 PM I went to play Forza 2 on Saturday. Put the disc in, close the tray, says reading, than says open tray. Tried my Ghostbusters game same thing. Look here and some other sites and nothing. Xbox.com says I can send it in and have it fixed but guess what my warrenty is up.
So my question is, has anyone else had this issue and is there a way to fix it myself?
BlinkinCard41 10-26-2009, 04:38 PM Have you tried putting in any DVDs? Because if that still doesn't work, the lens might be dirty. I wouldn't know how to go about cleaning it, though.

Have not tried a DVD yet but tried all my games and nothing. I will try a DVD when I get home.
TomCoopz 10-26-2009, 05:35 PM You can get disks with brushes built into them which clean your lens. I dont think they are too expensive either

Ya i've seen those they're definetly under $20. And well quite frankly if that doesn't work turn in one of your controllers and buy a new console, make sure it's a jasper.
Raykhenberg 10-27-2009, 02:21 AM I have this problem. Usually if I open and close the tray enough times it will read the disc but then freeze up in the middle of a game. I've started installing everything to the hard drive. Let me know if you figure out a good solution to this problem.
KnightofOA 10-28-2009, 11:59 AM If all those remedies don't work, the next route I would go is craigslist. Before you spend $300 dollars on a new console, you might be able to find someone in your area who fixes them. You'll have to judge if they're on the up and up, but I haven't heard very many bad stories, and they will normally fix it for about 50 to 60 bucks, much cheaper, and even if it works for another year or so, you're only out 50 bucks instead of 300. It's at least worth a try. That's what I'm going to do if mine breaks down, because it's not on warranty either.

I found a guy on www.Dadsofgaming.com. He has a web site and it looks legit and there were a few guys who had stuff done by him. His web site is www.solomods.com.
CozyMachine 10-28-2009, 06:37 PM Was your xbox completely out of warranty or just out of warranty for non RROD problems? I had the same problem about a year ago, out of warranty with a busted disc drive but I told them I had RROD and got it replaced for free.
Fir3truck 10-29-2009, 04:01 AM I have no warrenty left.
Droozy 10-29-2009, 11:38 AM I highly recommend www.solomods.com Awesome guy, and his case engravings/case lighting mods are awesome

I had this EXACT problem if its the same Dvds will not work either! I had to send it off to Microsoft and re pay my warranty too! Thats was a couple of months back and i got my xbox back in like a week which was cool :)
Zombellic 10-30-2009, 07:42 AM I'm been having the same problem for a while now.
Most of the time when I first start up It says open tray I open/close tray then it detects the disc.
Then Most games fail to boot up past the 1st (press Start.) screen
If I install the game (which works every time) to my hard drive then the game starts up fine after the whole open/close business.
