For over 10 years E3 was such a phenomenal event for gamers that it was like having Christmas for a whole week.

That all changed in 2007.

The former giant known as Electronic Entertainment Expo changed its name to a wussier E3 Media and Business Summit and along with the name change, came a whole slew of other changes. Out were the days of booths, babes and demos and in were the days of press passes, private interviews, and closed-door demos.

Depending on who you asked, the changes at E3 were either a really good thing or a really bad thing. For big name video game publishers and writers the new format was great because they were able to get plenty of one on one time with the developers and games. However for the rest of us common Joe’s, there was absolutely nothing to do except look online for updates from the people that were important enough to be invited there.

That is why E3 completely changing from a public party to a private party is #70 in our top 100 Gaming moments of 2007!

The only good thing about E3 '07 was that you could watch the keynotes live on TV. But then G4 screwed that up, too. (Luckily I don't have G4 so I watched a live stream online that didn't have commercials.) But yeah, the massive show that was E3 was even fun to read about. Now there are three keynotes and a few other things and that's it.

It looks like E3 2008 will be a blend between Old and New. Back to Los Angeles Expo Center but with limited attendance.
