http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/pissedoff.pngAny gamer worth their weight in Microsoft Points remembers the hype surrounding the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta. Never before (and not since) has a beta or demo of a game sold more copies of a completely unrelated title. Folks who purchased Crackdown (a fantastic game in its own rite) on launch day, were promised entry into the official Halo 3 beta, months and months down the road. Unfortunately that road was a one way dirt road. On the horizon, a million or so gamers were kicking up a cloud of dust, heading for one hell of a traffic jam.
Wax nostalgic with us after the jump.

So there we all were on B day. Controllers in hand. Shaking with anticipation. The time had come to open that long-since finished Crackdown app and hop right into the action. All we had to do, was find that button that let us into the beta. Any moment now. Any second. Umm. Okay where the hell is the frickin button!?!???!

Personally, I’m guessing that a lot of Halo fanboys broke a lot of personal property that day, as the promised beta did not materialize. Despite having months to prepare for the beta’s launch, the Live servers couldn’t handle the crush of the surprisingly (*sarcastic) high demand for the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta.

Chaos ensued. Dogs and cats, sleeping together. Mass Hysteria!

Then, late in the afternoon, the problem was corrected and the world resumed its elliptical orbit of the Sun.

For pissing off, agitating, scaring the living snot out of, and freaking out gamers from Minneapolis to Madagascar, the Halo 3 Heart Attack checks in at number 25 in Sarcastic Gamer’s Top 100 Gaming Moments of 2007.

I got into the Beta through a non-Crackdown method. I was one of the few who didn't have to wait, since XBL e-mailed me a download code and my friend's (10Mbps) connection finished it in 10 minutes or so.

I got it via Crackdown which I wasn't that thrilled to purchase. It turned out to be one of my favorite games of the year. Luckily I was out of town for the first two days of the beta so I missed my heart attack.

I never got to play the beta. I don't know why either... I just never got around to it.

I WAS PISSED when the beta didn't work as i didn't have a 360 at the time and went to my friends house (20 miles) to play with him, aka use him to play, got lost all to just stare at the screen that wasn't working. Needless to say i went back in a few days once i was sure he had it
