There were some pretty dumb things said in 2007. I know, I said some of them. There were some well paid people out there, made a ton of comments about video games for the public to see that said a lot dumber things than I ever could.
I guess with great money comes great stupidity.
Find out what dumb things were said after the jump.

The first person is Katie Couric. Her comment on Manhunt 2 in Katie’s Corner on CBS.com. Full story here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2007/10/katie-couric-cliches-video-game-cliches.html).
“What sets this game apart is the player can become physically involved in the acts of violence. Rather than just pushing buttons, the player actually wields a knife, an axe, a glass shard to stab an opponent.”
Phil Harrison, Mr. Ps3, had this to say about the shortness of Heavenly Sword. Full story here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2007/10/more-dumbass-quotes-from-real-ps3.html).
“You know what? Not that many people finish games, so I think we shouldn’t criticize a game for being a story, which has an arc with a beginning, a middle and an end… and actually encouraging all gamers to see all of the story, I think that’s something positive.”
Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, had this to say about the PS3’s slow start. Full story here (http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2007/12/jack-tretton-looks-to-the-future.html).
“We realized that not every consumer is going to be ready for what the PlayStation 3 (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22044630/page/2/#) offers (HD and broadband) in the first year and I don’t know that we expect or need them to be ready for it. We need them to be ready for it over the next decade. And if you look at the PlayStation 2, we sold 120 million machines so far — but we certainly didn’t sell them all in the first year.”
I’m not sure how much they are paying these people, but for about half of what they make, you could hire me and I could say dumb things too!

Honestly, this article could go on for another five pages, filled with Sony executive quotes, but you get the idea.

Wait, wait, is this where we talking about Dave calling someone a Deutsch-bag? :D No, this is the "with great money comes great stupidity thread..." Nevermind, I'll keep looking...

but for half of what they make I could say dumb things.

Why pay you at all Dave? You say stupid things for free man... :)

I kid, I kid... I'm just keeping it realer, man...

Suggestion - For 2008 you need to have a webpage dedicated to just the stupid statements said around the industry.

They have one of those already. It's called "PS3's homepage"

Cue rimshot.

How about one for tired, worn-out Sony/PS3 jokes? Then again, half the Xbox-owners posts on this site would end up there... that'd be too much of a draw from this forum's regular content I'm guessing. So on second thought, no, don't do that.

You know we love you, Rockbart...

You have to admit Sony's had some spectacular PR gaffs regarding the PS3.

I mean, come on... Even I would have known better than to call control vibration "last Gen"...

And I'm an idiot.

Yeah, but when was that? And it was admitted to when Luke Smith interviewed Phil Harrison. He was human and actually discussed it. It should be water under the bridge by now...

My point is that the Xbots of the world keep harping on the same old and tired jokes... rumble is last gen, get a 2nd job, Riiiiidge Racer, next-gen doesn't start until we say so, etc.

Take a few minutes and look up when that stuff happened. I guarantee they were ALL over a year ago. Some are closer to TWO years.
GET SOME NEW MATERIAL GUYS!!!
And even this week, stupid Walmart employees stock a 360 display with Sony products and somehow, that's a Sony mistake or a Microsoft mistake? How about it's a minimum wage don't-give-a-crap employee's mistake? No, let's all think really hard... we can somehow make Sony look stupid for this.

That's the stuff that tires me of the (not even funny anymore) jokes.

People have largely seemed to gloss over the RRoD issue even though 360's are still dying, they're largely ignoring the fact that MS has lost a significant chunk of their 1st/2nd party development studios, they're largely glossing over Live PMSing over the last week or so, the wide-spread Disc Read Errors and DVD drive failures. They've pretty much sucked it up that the Wi-Fi adapter and Hard drive expansion are TOO FRIGGING EXPENSIVE for what they are. People are generally happy to be paying to play multiplayer games. People ignore the Premium->Pro "price drop" that requires you to buy a $50 adapter if you want surround sound, making the price drop not a price drop (yet somehow Sony's price drop is a scam?!?!) All that crap (and tons more) get brushed aside. Let's make another joke about Lair. Yeah, let's do that...

My resolution was a subtle hint at a new series of front page posts I'm kicking off later today... "The Bright Side". You'll see... ;)

There's also a nice rant coming today that'll be sure to piss off a few Xbots. So yeah, my year is getting off to a great start! :D

Ah. I see. So we can't poke at the PS3, but you're free to commit jack-assery all over the 360.

It's really more of a "do as I say, not as I do" sort of thing with you, isn't it?

:)

No, not at all... it's a "don't use the same damned material for months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months"

You see how repetition gets old?

Think of new stuff. I realize you may be running out, but it can be done.

That's pretty cool. Sometimes the more you see something the better it gets.

My prediction for Rothbart's next rant is

"All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. All work and no play make Rothbart a dull boy. gotta say, i really wish i could make arguments for the PS3 and sony like Rothbart can, when i do it, it just sounds like im an idiot lol. And yeh Sony have made some HUGE mistakes in both pr and speeches, but as he said, alot of them were so long ago, like RIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER that was sooo bloody long ago i think im actually nearly two years older.

but whatever you say about the rrod, its being "fixed" but microsoft spending a ton of money to fix broken ones, by replacing them with ones, that will just break again, go go gadget 8 xboxs! Every time my mates xbox's die, they send it off, yada yada, get another one, which looks the same, and is the same, with the same fault, so hey presto, a few months later, go go gadget another dead xbox! good job! Im just glad i got outta there while i still could!

But yeh, in terms of silly quotes, sony from a year ago wins the big one with "this is all based on past events....now heres a giant enemy crab" god genji was shite.
