You guys really need to hire a decent graphic designer ;) Personally, I don't like the overall design of the website, I don't think it looks very nice. :)

Personally, I think SG is A-OK with the design the way it is. Lono_Lives 01-02-2008, 12:19 PM You guys really need to hire a decent graphic designer ;) Personally, I don't like the overall design of the website, I don't think it looks very nice. :) Well, with the millions we make from the site, we'll get right on that one...:p Doc did a kick ass job on the site, I, personally, love it. What would you change? Rekenmachine 01-02-2008, 12:36 PM I have no problem with the design either, but maybe it's just because I'm used to it. Like stated before, tell us what you would change. PS: By looking at the design of the site, I noticed the top banner on the forums is of lower quality than the one the main page ( The rings on the face ). strika234 01-02-2008, 12:42 PM I never realized, but you're right! Rekken, you suyre have sharp eyes. viatrophy 01-02-2008, 01:56 PM I like the SG site. Is simple to get around on, Not hundreds of stupid catagories and drop down box's.. God I hate those things. AblativMeatshld 01-02-2008, 02:06 PM Yeah, this site is WAY easier to navigate than GeezerGamer... Frawlz 01-02-2008, 02:10 PM I think it could use some Kayne and Lynch Advertisments. viatrophy 01-02-2008, 02:12 PM It would freshen it up a bit. ;) AblativMeatshld 01-02-2008, 02:23 PM I think it could use some Kayne and Lynch Advertisments. Not a chance. The check is late... :) CaptainDDL 01-02-2008, 04:31 PM You guys really need to hire a decent graphic designer ;) Personally, I don't like the overall design of the website, I don't think it looks very nice. :) How would you change it? Give us ideas, and we may implement them. ;) Oh, about the graphics designer...we barely make enough for the server from ads (if even that)...how would we make enough money to have a professional graphics designer redo our site? ;) AblativMeatshld 01-02-2008, 04:32 PM how would we make enough money to have a professional graphics designer redo our site? ;) There's always the classics of blackmail, extortion, and larceny... iPlayPC 01-02-2008, 04:33 PM There's always the classics of blackmail, extortion, and larceny... You could play GTA in real life... The Beezs 01-02-2008, 09:55 PM Personally, I think the design of this site is pretty damn good for being template driven for easier updates and such. The text isn't some funky ass neon color with a flashy background; it's all damn easy to read and is easy on the eyes. It's not designed by kidiots who think that fractal brushes and PS filters are the greatest thing ever which means everything is easy to see and access for the most part. The simplicity of this site is damn easy on the eyes and functions beautifullly. However, there are a few tidbits that I'd change to make things a bit smoother. The main page sidebars, are kinda spread out and make it slightly confusing. Maybe condensing them into smaller icons that are stacked closer together would improve that nitpick. And the final bit, is the banner on the top of each page. All it is, is a giant link to the main page. A quick trip into illustrator and a few clicks of the slice tool combined with a quick bit of HTML coding would turn a solid banner into a more usable image with quick access to the sections named on the left side. See, constructive criticism isn't so hard now is it Mickeh. ShockwaveLover 01-02-2008, 10:20 PM The SG site is simple, functional and straight-forward. Imporving for the sake of improving isn't worth it. I would like to hear some of the ideas though. What we do need however, is an online 'Dave-nary', the compendium of Dave-isms and phrases, to help us keep it realer! NecrisJ1MM 01-03-2008, 01:15 AM And the final bit, is the banner on the top of each page. All it is, is a giant link to the main page. A quick trip into illustrator and a few clicks of the slice tool combined with a quick bit of HTML coding would turn a solid banner into a more usable image with quick access to the sections named on the left side. Yeah, that always bothered me back before I figured out it was all just one giant IMG link to the main page, I use to try to click on the "Forums" part of the picture thinking it would take me there, but no... :( Other than that, the forums are great, easy to read, and easy on the eyes, and that nice shade of red on the headlines is great too. It doesn't need any major cosmetic redo, maybe just a nip and tuck here and there (which I wouldn't know where, though) Pablos102030 01-03-2008, 03:22 AM I have no problem with the design either, but maybe it's just because I'm used to it. Like stated before, tell us what you would change. PS: By looking at the design of the site, I noticed the top banner on the forums is of lower quality than the one the main page ( The rings on the face ). Ha, even the freakin' logo has the RROD! But seriously, I hate it when awesome forums go down the drain. First you see it gain popularity. Then the main page has a makeover, and 50000 hard to navigate sections are made. Then, when you try to ask a simple question, you are greeted by "OMGZ LUL U freegin nub. Well I say No! NecrisJ1MM 01-03-2008, 03:44 AM Ha, even the freakin' logo has the RROD! Then, when you try to ask a simple question, you are greeted by "OMGZ LUL U freegin nub. Well I say No! I hope that doesn't happen to SG... where would I turn for my dose of sarcasm, parodies, and witty humor then!? Eh, but of course first we'd have to reach the "popularity" part :P ShockwaveLover 01-03-2008, 04:34 AM Eh, but of course first we'd have to reach the "popularity" part :P Well, when I joined, just two Lono-filled months ago, there were only about 1300-1400 members. Now there are (at the time of posting) 1728. That means, that in 2 months, there has been a 328-428 member increase. That means that 5.5 - 7.1 members are signing up every day! At this rate, in one year 1968 - 2568 members will sign up! So, as Sarcastic Gamer Propaganda Minister (Self-Appointed), I exhort all members of these glorious forums to take up keyboards and mice, and spread the word, across webpage and blog, Digg-ing, Stumble-ing and filling out Itunes reviews on the way! From the Book of Doc: And the Forum Gods said unto him "The power of the posters shall be supreme." And the Lono did reply " You give ME a break!" All Hail! [All calculations based on 30 day months (because I was too lazy to work it out exactly.)] Chi Rombuu 01-03-2008, 01:52 PM Yeah, that always bothered me back before I figured out it was all just one giant IMG link to the main page, I use to try to click on the "Forums" part of the picture thinking it would take me there, but no... :( When I first came to this site, I was doing the same thing with the banner. Blog, Podcasts and Forums look like links and kept trying to click them. The design of the banner seems like it came out of 1997 though - when geocities ruled the land. The layout is so so, but its not terrible by any means. The simplicity makes finding stories and links enjoyable instead of a chore. A revamp wouldn't be a bad idea - keep your template layout but a banner update couldn't hurt as long as you keep the face logo and match it to the color scheme of the site. Just don't go too Web 2.0 (aka shiny gradient wannabe apple style) because people like to abuse it and I think its way overdone. Mickeh 01-04-2008, 08:54 PM Okay, some constructive criticism... I know the budget for the website and everything was extremely low, good job on the website for just starting out. The only problem I have is it looks too tacky... It looks like you have gone into Photoshop or something and used a lot of glows and drop shadows etc. to produce a website. Reading through about the 50 million responses to this topic, I don't think anyone else has much of a problem. I think people are used to tacky websites, I am used to the whole Web 2.0 thing. I don't like using Arial etc. for my fonts... maybe something like Helvetica Nue? Also, a new nicer banner would probably attract some people. Make it more pleasing on the eyes and then you would have something. Just my opinion. :) Ploogle 01-06-2008, 01:35 PM I think it's a great site, although it'd be cool to get a Flash banner at the top. ...I'll try making one... Reading through about the 50 million responses to this topic...Dude, your post is only #23. Only 49,999,977 posts to go! Rekenmachine 01-06-2008, 02:23 PM I think it's a great site, although it'd be cool to get a Flash banner at the top. I'd prefer not having a flash banner. I have Noscript ( plugin for firefox ) and it disables flash and other crap untill you have given persmission. When I come to a website with half a page blocked by Noscript, I just press the back button in my browser. I wouldn't be a real problem for me, cuz sarcasticgamer is on the trustee-list, but still. MightyMutt 01-11-2008, 09:48 AM I like the simple design of the website, its one of the factors that drew me to your website. Ease of use is important and I agree with many of the points made by The Beezs but, without wanting to offend whoever did it for you, I do not like your logo. I can say that from a design standpoint coz I am a graphic designer who does logo design. I'd happily redesign it for you but do not know when I'd be able to get to it coz I am so busy at the moment having just gone back to work after Xmas. If you are interested just let me know and I'll start when i can. I won't expect any payment and you won't have to use it if you don't want to. MightyMutt 01-11-2008, 02:28 PM As soon as I get a chance I'll give it a go, chuck it your way and see what you think. I'll use the same basic colour scheme and idea you have now but I'd like to give it a bit more character and tidy it up a bit. If any particular file format is preferable let me know I was thinking tiff or eps but I'm not so hot when it comes to the needs of the internet so tell me if anything else is better. |
