2006 was pretty huge for us PC gamers. A lot of great games hit the shelves and of course the generic trash that always comes out in between the bigger titles, but games like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Company of Heroes and Rainbow Six Vegas really made it a good year.
But '07 is one for the books. Every year great games come out but not so many at once!
First up is Bioshock: arguably one of the most anticipated games of the year, Bioshock offers a non-linear FPS which seems to be the best thing to happen to FPS games since multiplayer gameplay. Not does the game itself look good but so does the water(Dave and I want good looking water), Plus the whole trapped underwater theme just adds to the feel of Bioshock. Another great thing about this game is how advanced the AI seems to be and how their movements are unscripted making it feel like a living breathing word.
BF2142 look out! cuz next we have Enemy Territory: Quake Wars: A lot of my buddies seem to be looking forward to this game. Unlike battlefield 2 and its mod *cough* 2142, Quake wars brings front line gameplay into action. Instead of running around all alone(or if you're lucky enough get into a decent squad) while your teammates try to play "Rambo" front line gameplay adds a more authentic battlefield.
Hellgate: London combines the depth of role-playing games and action of first-person titles. One thing that peaked my attention was how Hellgate claims to have "randomly created levels, items and events." which in theory could bring a lot of replay value to the game. Much like RPG games we came to know and love Hellgate: London brings levels skills and "highly customizable appearances" to the table.
A game that needs no introduction Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: first let me say Whoa. If you saw the E3 trailer I am pretty sure all your doubts to the question "How will Call of Duty 4 appeal to the same people that loved its WW2 brothers?" have been erased and buried. While not much is known about the game itself, all I can saw is " Thank you for getting out of that poor dead and beaten horse that is WW2". If you missed the E3 trailer you can find it HERE (http://www.gamershell.com/download_20028.shtml)
Expansion to Gamespy's PC game of the year Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts : This is one of the few games that can use the popular WW2 franchise and pull it off beautifully. Opposing Fronts brings 2 new factions into this already great game, The defensive but slow British 2nd Army and the dreaded blitzkrieg of the German Panzer Elite! I'm sure all you RTS fans creamed your jeans when you saw Opposing Fronts in E3, and are dying to mix the American war machine with the defensive British 2nd Army and visa versa with the Germans.
Crysis: The game that screams badass in more ways then one. Running on the new CryENGINE 2 this game looks great and from the trailers plays great. Lets just hope Crytek can avoid the mistakes of Far Cry. But other then that gorgeous graphics; relentless AI; non-linear gameplay all make Crysis into one of the hottest games going to hit the shelves.
Big armies, Big maps, BIG battles Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance: is a follow-up chapter to Supreme Commander(derp) which brought the entire War not the Battle to your computer screen(and then probably froze your processor) The game features an all-new single-player campaign and new faction "The Seraphim"(kinda sounds like an ass cream to me).
Like Bert the turtle, when you see the flash duck and cover! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0K_LZDXp0I) World in Conflict: presents a chillingly authentic Cold War scenario where the Berlin Wall never fell. Thanks to a surprise attack from the USSR you take on the role of field commander, leading the era's most powerful military machines in the campaign to retake America's cities and suburbs. After playing the beta for a while(and quickly rickrolling all in my path) World in Conflict shapes out to be a great looking game.
Unreal Tournament 3 Head to the front lines and join this Epic battle to defend humanity..yada yada yeah we know, Kill everyone you see in the greatest charge while spraying ammo fashion you know. UT has always been tons of fun and I highly doubt UT3 will be much different, plus with Unreal Engine 3 graphics this game will be on my list to send off to Santa Claus right dave?
Finally we have Half-Life 2: Orange Box: Ahh memories, Half-life is where I (DudeWithGun) started. I'm sure all you CS fans agree too, Half-life started so much(yeah yeah original doom rocked) and with even more Half-life it just gets sweeter. Objects and characters that feature accurate physics properties, behaving with the appropriate mass, density, and physical properties of their real-life counterparts. Extremely intelligent computer AI,and lets not forget the G-man. Along with episode 2 you get Team-Fortress 2 and Portals! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4jnl0hRB9I) Remember, There's a hole in the sky, through which things can fly!
Aight well with that said what are you looking forward to most?
Sorry if I missed something you had your eyes on.
