Roleplaying
No, not the videogame variety. The kind of roleplay I'm talking about is a sort of story that you make up with other people as you go along. You start off with someone having a plot, a world to go along with that plot (races, classes, important cities/factions, ect.), and a character sheet. A character sheet looks something like this:

Name:
Race:
Age:
Powers:
Description:
History:

As the name implies, it is used by other people to make characters. These characters are then accepted or not accepted by the GM - the game master, who controls the roleplay (his/her character isn't necessarily more powerful than the others, but he/she can move the plot along). All of this takes place in the OOC (out of character) thread of the roleplay. There is a seperate IC thread for the actual story.

The rules wouldn't be very strict. Just use proper grammar and English and don't be an idiot/ass. However, if it starts getting cluttered, a voting system for allowing roleplays should be implements. Like, if you want to get a roleplay started, at least three people need to vote for your roleplay.

Art
Kind of obvious. Each person gets their own thread to put up their artwork. Contests every week or two weeks or month or whatever.

Literature
Kind of obvious. Again. Each story gets its own thread.

I'd like to mod the Roleplaying Section only, if the Powers-That-Be deem me worthy enough for the honor of Moderatorhood.

Sorry to put it blunt but it sounds crap.

You could just create a single thread and have everyone use that, its easier.

The section wouldn't get used by the sounds of things, it seems that only a few would use it.

And plus it sounds a tad geeky. :p

I agree with viatrophy's last line.

however, even if we did want to do it, I don't think rothbart, whose still thinking about a review section (much more necissary) would allow a new section. i think you should keep it in one thread and see what happens.

Its hardy something that is needed.
Its kinda more strange than anything.

Also from what you were saying your asking to be a mod iswell?

Question: How is Art geeky? I'm no good at it, but I think an Art area could be cool. Photoshop, signatures, etc...
It could also help with something I'm planning...

Yeah, I come from a major roleplaying forum.
I'm a respected member of two other forums, one of which is for RPing. I'm not a mod on either one, and I'm not one here. Just coming from a large site doesn't make you worthy.

I've had this idea for a while, and I think I'm going to start a thread in The Lobby soon...

I come from a large Sarcastic "Gaming" community... ;)

I've noted your request. If it proves to be a popular request, we'll consider it. As for now, we're envisioning "The Lobby" to be where the bulk of the "non-gaming" threads should go.

I posted the "Sarcastic Gamer RPG" in The Lobby. If anyone has any problems, comments, or suggestions, please PM me.

Art sounds good, but the RPGs could get very messy, very fast. Why not leave the RPGs to the sites that are dedicated to them, and anyone who wants to play with Wizard go do it there.

I don't want the Sarcastic Gamer forums to become a place where new people register only to show off their new Photoshop-made signatures. I understand that we way talk about some off-topic things, but this is a gaming forum. And even though playing RPG (geez, this acronym has so many meanings!) with you guys could be fun, I'd rather do it on an RPG forums, not here.

Wizard, suddenly deciding you can start a Role Playing section is akin to me waking up in the morning and deciding that I can build a nuclear reactor. In both cases, the result is likely to be catastrophic self-destruction, leaving behind a pile of poisionous waste that will contaminate the community at large. Both Role Playing and reactor construction are activities that should be performed in an environment where the appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent wide-scale devestation. And considering some of the members of this forum, that place is not here.

Probably took him a good 10 minutes. :p

Also
@ Wizard,

I came from xbox.com forums, extremely active over there in my past and I didn't expect to become a moderator, so why should you?

Wow, guys, thanks for all the constructive comments. I know it's hard these days to just say "That's not a good idea." or "You're being a tad too ambitious there, my young friend. ; )" when someone puts forth an idea that you think is bad or maybe even stupid, but thanks for working so hard to maintain your level-headedness.

I hereby abandon my ambitions to establish a roleplay forum here at SG. I still think an Art section would be good though.

You could just have a thread in the Lobby dedicated to it. :)

Wizard
01-15-2008, 01:21 PM
That would be better. Stickied, though.

Why? Is art and RPG-playing that important over here? Haven't you noticed that only a few (maybe up to 20) people would get involved in it? This is Sparta... I mean this is a GAMING forum, Wizard.
A new user that would come here and browse through the forums, who'd notice a "we're playing RPG here" thread stickied, could consider us all geeks and nerds and just leave the site.

For me, that's completely unnecessary. We have a lot of stupid threads here, but an RPG one definitely doesn't suit the Sarcastic Gamer community.
Just go create a free forum on some giving-forum-space-for-free sites and play RPG games there.
I do not want them here. The decision lies in Rothbart's hands, though, so you'd seriously have to think of something really smart to convince him into allowing the nerdgames over here. Unless he's an RPG player as well.

Guys, I already started the thread.

And considering some of the members of this forum, that place is not here.
Spoken like someone who has no clue what they're talking about...for the most part. You're right that some people here couldn't handle an RPG, but you never know until you try.

...and how in the HECK would it destroy the community at large?

regua

Guys, I already started the thread.
Yeah, we're talking generally about the "creativity" section and/or stickying the threads.

BTW, your thread is kind of chaotic. You should've started one thread with character profiles and one with the actual game to make it easier for the GM to check the characteristics of each of the players...
Let's see how the thread develops in the future. I'm still against the idea of playing RPG here, but if the community demands it and will actually take part in it, I have no objections.

Just go use the thread ploggle made.

You've also just insulted the whole community's intelligence,
Good one.

I stand corrected, I thought you guys were still talking about the RPG thread.

But seriously, Wizard. That was waaaaaaaay uncalled for.

There isn't really a need for a new section just for that.
just using threads would work just as well.

A new section based on what hes on about, I could barely see it used properly. but thats my opinion.

I was also a tad anoyyed at the fact he askedto be a mod basically.

Yeah, I come from a major roleplaying forum.

Then why not leave the RPing to that forum, this is a gaming community. You seem like the kind of guy to order a Big Mac at Burger King.

Poogle had the right idea, one topic for all that stuff, and I'm sure if it's actively used it will stay near the top of the list for easy access with no sticky required.

That being said, "Obviously, SarcasticGamer doesn't have the IQ I thought it did. Screw it." sounds like it would make a great linked title haha.

01-15-2008, 08:48 PM
Well, if you guys want, I could make a forum for this, and just have people pm me for the link. If I just post the link, it will be soon destroyed, like people have been doing to ploogles thread. So yeah.....PM me for the link. It should be online within the hour.
