View Full Version : Blu-Ray or HD-DvD?
Tiannam 08-08-2007, 03:20 PM Yes, I know, I know. This is an age old subject that you have all seen before. But which HD media format do you think will come out on top and why?
HD-DvD- $179 (Lowest)
Blu-Ray- $499.99 (Lowest)
------------------------------------
I personally think HD-DVD will come out on top because of it's significant lower price and that people keep making their movies for them, and have many exclusives. Sony was very stupid for putting such new technology in their console, making it cost a lot. People are going to start buying the lowered price HD-Dvd player and it's huge selection of movies. No Blu-Ray, you haven't won.
It doesn't really matter to me. It's kind of like VHS v Beta. The one that porn industry choses will be the winner. I ask, is there any porn that needs to be seen in HD?
shrimpy20 08-08-2007, 05:34 PM Obviously Blu-Ray, it's more new and advanced. But HD-DVD has it's advantages over it so they are both really good. But I do believe Blu-Ray in the PS3 is pointless...

If Blu-Ray wasn't in the Ps Tripple then it would have failed. The Ps3 is the last hope for Blu-Ray, and Blu-Ray is the last hope for the Ps3. If one of them fails, they both will die.

I don't think it is pointless for the blu-ray to be in the ps3. It's kind of smart really. This is what sony did last time with DVD. They built it into their game system and made it so everyone had a DVD player. I know my first DVD player was a PS2 and this is true for many people.
as for the whole HDDVD Vs. Bluray, well I know I would like Blu-ray to win and from the looks of things they will but I also know that cheaper goes a long ways. But as for movies coming out on either disc its sony who has the most good titles. I worked at C-City selling TV's and well from what I saw there it was blu-ray catching everyones eye not HDDVD.
As for the whole "Whatever porn goes with is the winner" bit.. thats BS now of days. Who really buys porn on hard formats anymore. If you want to know what Porns going with this time around its the internet.
Once the PS3 gets into peoples homes and these same people buy HD TV's they are just going to buy blu-ray if any HD format at all.
I think the real question here is if any HD format will take off... not what one. The sales for both formats have been lackluster at best.
Lono_Lives 08-08-2007, 05:51 PM I'll stick with downloadable content ftw....

LMAO, and I don't think so. :)
Eleven 08-09-2007, 10:01 AM that people keep making their movies for them, and have many exclusives.
Please, name some. Last time I checked, pretty much every major Hollywood publisher is going with Blu-Ray. This has changed over time (2005 to present), but please read:

So far, the Blu-ray Disc version of 300 is outselling the HD DVD version, 65% to 35%. According to Home Media Research, that mirrors the overall sales pattern this year (Jan-June), with Blu-ray accounting for 67% and 33% for HD DVD,.

Personally I would like the BluRay to win or at least co-exist. It's a simple pragmatic thought. I already have a Bluray Player with my PS3 and some BD's to watch as well. If Hd-DVD would suppress BD I would have to buy a new Player (or 360drive). But I guess those people with the HD-Drive will think exactly the same ;9
Lono_Lives 08-09-2007, 11:14 AM Hey it's Nine's world, we're just living in it. Go Blu-Ray. For Nine's sake!

CharlieBlix 08-09-2007, 11:48 AM Tiannam, I think you want HD-DVD to win for the same reason why Nine wants Blu-Ray to win.

yeah, but don't forget: He lives in MY world, not the other way around ;)
Spudnik 08-09-2007, 01:11 PM Honestly, everything is probably going to go digital in 5 years so this format war doesn't matter as much. I mean go out and ask the average consumer, "Would you rather go out and buy a movie or have it delivered right to your house?" Geuss which one they; will pick.

I personally don't care that much either. As of now I just download my HD movies off of the XBL Market place.
Volkov 08-09-2007, 01:49 PM I'm not sure how it matters if they have players that play both discs now.

Would you remind us how much those cost please?

It's not like the cost won't go down. If the stalemate continues long enough, then no one will end up winning.
Spudnik 08-11-2007, 02:55 AM If it continues for too much longer 2 years or so then we will see the digital age completely take over. Bye bye stupid format wars.
