I personally liked FFIX, it wasn't that bad of a game. I really liked how they went back to the job class system, because in FFVII & FFVIII the only differences the characters had were in their primary weapons. The only characters that were the same in FFIX were Garnet & Eiko(the 2 summoners), and it made the game much more enjoyable. The story wasn't as good as some of the other Final Fantasy games, but it wasn't the worst in the series, the worst being FFII. I wouldn't recommend playing FFIX unless you do like the job class system, which I personally like.
Rekenmachine 02-05-2008, 07:18 AM I would recommend IV ( The Japanese IV, so the American II on the SNES ), simply to read the legendary 'you spoony bard.' :p.
I like this particular one because it feels like a classic FF ( as in I, II, III classic ) but in a 16 bit cloak. If that's not your thing my order too play them in would be:
IV - VI - IX - V - I - II - III - VIII
( I really disliked VIII :o)
Ploogle 02-05-2008, 11:44 PM It's not really "Final" if they keep adding Roman numerals to the end of the title and sell a new one. I mean, "Final" Fantasy almost has as many games in the franchise as Mario!
At least Nintendo didn't call the series Final Mario.
Rekenmachine 02-06-2008, 10:06 AM Well, the first Final Fantasy might as well have been the final one. It was the last chance for square to get out of bankruptcy. It's safe to say they succeeded :p.
dark sora 02-06-2008, 10:56 AM I am so glad it wasn't though...Final Fantasy spawned the best game series ever....kingdom hearts.

Each Final Fantasy game is a "final" fantasy. There not sequels(X-2 is tho).
dark sora 02-06-2008, 12:48 PM did dirge of cerberus count as a sequel? I think it does.
Ala Douche 02-06-2008, 12:54 PM never mention that game again... my superfan should know better... >.>
i would suggest you try Chrono Cross... ok so it's not a final fantasy, but it's made by square and it's absolutely amazing! same with chrono trigger, but cross isn't a direct sequel and i liked it better.

A sequel to what? Spin offs aren't sequels.

Its not really a direct sequel though is it?
dark sora 02-06-2008, 08:28 PM yeah, thats true... I absolutly loved chrono trigger! most deffinatly one of the best games on ps1.
P.S. ala Douche, I apologise for mentioning it as your superfan.
Dmatix 02-07-2008, 01:32 AM ^Chrono Trigger is an SNES game(and a great one),the PS1 game is Chrono Cross(the sequal),which i havent play.
dark sora 02-07-2008, 12:41 PM There is also a ps1 version of chrono trigger, I believe it came with one of the final fantasy anthology type things, like, I have seen box sets of ff 1-6 plus chrono trigger!
Meta666 02-07-2008, 01:05 PM Yes, Final Fantasy Chronicles had FF IV and Chrono Trigger bundled together.
GideonB 02-07-2008, 05:19 PM I really am hoping FFXIII is gonna be great. All other FF games are excellent.
Eulogy 33 02-07-2008, 07:39 PM Front Mission 3, is another PS1 Square game that is often overlooked. Not a traditional RPG but its a game that even now I still go back and play.
As for FF, you do really have to play them in order imo. The story obviously doesn't continue but some people can be put off by the more dated graphics, if you went say 9>8>7.
FF9 was my favorite, loved the card game in it. :)
dark sora 02-07-2008, 11:14 PM 9=blarf. Unless I'm mistaken, square also made a game called "einhander"

RAGNAROCK 02-09-2008, 08:34 PM try FFX,that one is my favorite after FFVII.
solarmystic 02-17-2008, 07:00 PM try FFX,that one is my favorite after FFVII.
Damn straight man.... 300+ hours on that game to get all chars maxed, all Weapons and Armor collected and all the Dark Aeons + Penance defeated.
I still can't believe i modified my whole Sphere Grid(removed +1,+2,+3 attribute spheres and substituted them with thier +4 counterparts, and also the HP/MP spheres from 50/100 HP too 200 HP per sphere for EVERY character) just to take on the Dark Aeons, what a pain it was, fighting in the Monster Arena hundreds of times just get the spheres i needed...

I liked that game, but man you like it like a 100 times more than I did.
Blaze 02-27-2008, 12:44 AM Honetly if you have played 9 and 7 then you can jump into 4,5, or 6 quite easily. all three of them are great games 6 i think had the best storyline (after 7 of course)
LEGEND 02-27-2008, 04:04 PM I loved VIII, thought the story was brilliant and imo it had the best graphics on the PS1. I never really got into VII though.
X was very good as well, X-2 was shockingly bad.
Eulogy 33 02-27-2008, 06:27 PM IX had the best graphics imo.
solarmystic 02-27-2008, 06:52 PM IX had the best graphics imo.
I agree, it had the most detail for a final gen PS1 game. I just did not enjoy the disproportionate, super deformed models that Square used for the characters in the game after being spoilt with the more 'realistic' look of FFVIII.
Its kinda funny though, that VIII was one of the few FFs (besides I,II,III,V) to have solely humans in their playable cast.
