I've seen how good WC is, played it, and stubbornly boycotted the franchise because I've mad at Blizzard for not making another Starcraft. IMHO, Starcraft: Brood War is the greatest, because I haven't gotten tired of playing it in almost 10 years. Warcraft is great, but I don't like the Hero system, and SC usually involves much more massive armies.

Company of Heroes is great, and very similar in gameplay style to C&C3, but better. It's different enough from SC that I can say this is my favorite in the "squad command based" style of RTS.

Hands down the original Starcraft, its got the best action and awsome balance between the 3 races. Its like playing rock, paper scissors with graphics! =D

HHmmmmmm Rock, paper, scissors.. that would be great on the Wii. And since the Wii can support Starcraft era graphics, then watch out !

Im gonna have to 2nd that. At first I was abit skeptical about the game, but after I tried it it definitely changed my POV.

Warcraft Hero system was not well thought out, Blizzard just had to add some shiney shit on top to attract more players of lower intelligence but it sucked; played the game for two weeks and uninstalled it. And the camera angle blew, too.

Lots of diehard Starcraft players have tried to get me to play that game but I have always thought, nah, too old. I was probably wrong but now I think I'll wait for SCII

I didn't really care for CoH's resource management. It just doesn't fit into my play style. I can see why a lot of people enjoy it though.

Game0ver, you're talking SC3 right? I'll agree with you about the Hero Classes. With the exception of one or two maps all you needed was your hero and one or two units for cannon fodder and away you went. Admittedly I played on easy though. I suck at RTS lol.

At the end of SC2 it's learned that the Protoss have been genetically engineering a new race with the fire power of the Protoss and the speed of the Zerg. Their facilty is overrun by the Terran who accidently release this new race into the wild.

In SC3 the Zertoss are way overpowered imo. You can have a brigade of tosling units fully upgraded in a matter of minutes. The Prorren alliance takes like 20 minutes to get to the same point. Don't buy SC3!!!

I heard there were Pokemans in SC3....is this true? Are there pokemans in starcraft 3?

My favorite was Age of Empires II the Conquerors Expansion... That Attila the Hun campaign was very cool and got me so into Roman history that I went to the libary and read all these old history books from ancient times and stuff. Helped me a lot in college humanities.

The Montezuma campaign was fun too.

My favorite is CnC Zero Hour/Generals

CnC and starcraft are the best. And World in Conflict is really pretending to be number one for me.

I didnt really like World in Conflict to much. Just didnt seem like a real RTS. You couldnt build building, which I really hated.

It's like battlefield in RTS view. And I love that. Solid multiplayer. Solid campaign.

I dont play RTS but I think that World in Conflict is trying to be the best while CandC is that best RTS out there

im honestly quite fond of the lord of the rings battle for middle earth series.
its a damn hard choice between C&C zero hour/generals or age of empires 2.

For me its got to be Command and Conquer Red Alert 2.

However recently i have really gotten into Supreme Commander, thats pretty fantastic as well.

Ewww tough question. Of all time all around...I'd have to say StarCraft. Company Of Heroes is also amazing. WarCraft 2 was huge. Rise of Nations still stands as my personal fav of all time though. And of course my current addictions Supreme Commander and the CoH Beta.

Personal favorite is Dungeon Keeper, but I dont play that anymore...

so new personal favorite is Black and White 2, but its no match for the quality and innovation of Command and Conquer.

I just happen to like AoEII. I know it wasn't the best RTS, but I enjoyed the gameplay. And owning Computers on easy mode. Ah almost forgot, Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge is up there for me as well. Just because that game is fricking sweet. I can still remember some of the quotes from the game, such as what the units say. Which is a bit sad.

Rise of Nations

That game was awesome with its Tech tree.

But World in Conflict is fast becoming my fav. The ease at which you can play and jump into a game online is awesome. And its fast paced.

Starcraft, of course.

Supreme Commander is a very nice-looking game, but you need God's computer to run it, all the units are the same, and all the units are being piloted by robots except the Commander unit, which is rather boring. The only units where the three factions differ in are the superweapons, and those take long to build. Hooray for having the best physics engine out there, awesome graphics, and being an epic game, boo for no imagination. Although the opening cutscene was very good.

I love the Command and Conquer series. The first one I played was Red Alert 2 (woot for Prism tanks), but I'd say the best one out of the series is Tiberium Wars. Not only do they have awesome graphics and good gameplay, but those cutscenes with Joe Kucan (yay for the original Kane), Tricia Helfer (Number Six, BSG), Josh Holloway (Sawyer, LOST), Michael Ironside ("They sucked his brains out!"), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian, Star Wars), Grace Park (Boomer/Athena, BSG, kindly go **** yourself for daring to shoot Adama, you bitch), and Jennifer Morrison (Red Alert 2, the good guys, yay) gave me a geekasm.

I've only played the Dawn of War demo, so I can't really comment. The tabletop game is fun though, if you play it with someone who isn't a complete ass and/or idiot.

I haven't played Company of Heroes (I will when I get games back), but I've heard great things about it. Same goes for World in Conflict. I look forward to it.

Age of Empires was the first RTS I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart, along with Armymen.

Rise of Nations annoyed me because it had no Campaign, but it was still a good game. Didn't play it much for that reason though.

The Battle for Middle-Earth II and its expansion, Rise of the Witch-King is great. Getting Orcslayer on your first day of playing: Priceless. Men all the way, baby. Rohirrim ahoy!

Galactic Battlegrounds sucked. I haven't played Empire at War because Galactic Battlegrounds sucked.

Not much variety, but the epicness of the game was awesome.

I'm gonna have to go with my favorite being Company of Heroes. For some reason I have never seen Starcraft as the best RTS in my book. I don't have anything against it but for some reason it hasn't ever really appealed to me like it has to so many other gamers.

red alert was my favorite RTS, but now i cant stay interested in them long enough anymore. i played C&C 3 at a friends house a while back, and we played a couple matches... i just didn't feel compelled to keep playing because it seems like they haven't evolved (except for graphics) at all since the days of red alert.

I think I will have to go with Starcraft, great game.

I can't believe no one said Total Annihilation. New units every week, 3d terrain, able to create waypoints. This game did everything right back in the day.

The first RTS that I ever played a lot was Age of Mythology. It's still a fun game to go play now and then.

I've played other RTS games, but I don't own any others so I can't really pass judgment on them. Starcraft was probably the funnest that I ever played that I don't own. I played it a lot at my cousin's house on LAN against him a long time ago.

It has GOT to be Starcraft: Brood War...dear god, I STILL can't put it down...lol, figures. I totally love the rock-paper-scissors effect with Protoss, Terran, and Zerg.

The first RTS game I played was Age of Empires II: Age of Kings. It really got me into it, and then my cousin introduced me to Starcraft. I haven't put it down since :P

Command and Conquer Generals:ZH - Shockwave Mod for me! It added tons of new stuff to an already cool game! I can't wait until I can get the 13 pack C&C games!

having never been the owner of Supreme Commander i can't comment on that, but i am a solid C&C fan from their original release, so it has to be Zero Hour, followed closely by Warcraft 3

i think either starcraft, warcraft 3, C&C generals and maybe age of empires 2..thats a classic everyone even people who dont play PC games have played that one =P

Age of Empires 2 was reallllly fun, but I'd have to say Supreme Commander. 500 units at once, bitches!

I'm going to agree with you on that one, I just love Rise of Nations. I've still got installed on my computer and have been getting back into it. The tech trees and intelligent AI make it a very variable game, which rarely plays the same way twice. The same can be said for WCIII, which I love. I suck, because I always concentrate on one hero and then they rush in with a gigantic army, but I still love to play it. One more RTS that I love(d) to death is Red Alert 2, specifically Yuri's Revenge. Red Alert 2 was very fun, but the addition of Yuri (My favourite race) just made the game a blast to play and it is still fun to this day.

I think that statement holds up to the great RTSes though. Most First Person Shooters die, but the great RTSes stay with you forever and you can still play them and enjoy them.

Well, I know I still play WCIII. I'm a junky, I can't help it. I didn't really get into RTS's until after SC, so I never really became a fan. I am excited for SC2, tho.

I also enjoyed the Dawn of War games. My friends and I used to play all the time at the lan shop I work at.

For me no game on any any platform will ever top Age of Empires 2. I enjoyed that game no end, perfect balance of civilisations, brilliant graphics, excellent campaigns and the ever enjoyable random maps. I never even got round to playing online multiplayer either.
