If in game ads bring the cost of the game down, or enhance the experience, I am all for them. If I still have to pay 60 bucks and/or I get snapped out of the fanasy world I am playing in by a Qtips ad.... I am respectfully repulsed.

The producers of the much-anticipated Quake Wars say that while the game WILL monitor how long you look at an ad and report that data back to the mothership, it will not collect any personal data. Whew.

I'll know they're spying on me if I start seeing ads for Oreos and Huggies.

I'm curious to see how ad-crazy Playstation Home is. The ads in Crackdown never bothered me, the real ones or the fake ones... :D

In game ads? WTF? This stuff drives me crazy. I personally don't feel I should be subjected to that crap if I've paid money for the game already. If they lowered the cost of the game drastically then I could forgive it. It reminds of going to a movie theatre and sitting through 20 mins of freakin advertising after just paying 10 bucks to see a movie.....grrrrrrrrr >:(

I liken it to that stupid decal they put on the back of your new car when you buy it. I mean good grief. I paid 23 grand for a dodge charger and yer gonna deface it with a "Bubba's Dodge" sticker. Do you REALLY think that enhances the appearance of my car?

At least with that I was able to take it off. Slowly. Carefully.

I believe the exact justification was to "provide a higher level of on-going support to the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars community than would have been possible otherwise" (i.e. you will likely be shelling out $59.99 for it MSRP, unless you're a fellow CAG ;)). I suppose as long as it pays to keep the servers up and the bug fixes coming, I will not mind (assuming it doesn't ruin the gameplay). We will probably be seeing a lot more of this in the future, particularly those of us with a (OMFG teh m0st p0werfulz) PS3 or (p0wn3d j00 $0ny) Wii. I think I'd be pissed if I was paying for Live and had to deal with loads of ads.

In SC: Chaos Theory they updated ads from the web. On a lot of the computer terminals, an ad for Mamma's Boy and other movies have shown up there as well.

Meh, doesn't really suck me out of the experience too much.

I like the kind of ads that gamers don't actually see, and the game producer gets money for them anyway. E.g. in Warcraft III when you entered Battle.net menu (for playing online), there was a banner at the very top of the screen. I haven't noticed it until my friend told me "hey, look, there's an ad right there".

My stance on in-game advertising is fairly simple - if I would see an advert in real life (such as the hoardings round a football - sorry, soccer field, or on bridges over a race track), then these adverts can actually enhance the gaming experience, by adding to the feeling of "being there" (though the fact that I'm sat on my backside in front of the telly with a controller in my hand, and a cat digging her claws into my leg, is never going to allow me to *totally* immerse myself in a game) - however, it's when the advertising is SO in your face, and not in context at all - or followed by TM that gets on my nerves.

Just my two pennorth...

I don't really mind in-game adverts because I ain't really gonna buy the product, or even look at them. To me they just make the game MORE realistic. I don't care about them. As long as they ain't subliminal messages like.. DONT BUY MOUNTAIN DEW! That'll just make me thirsty for it.. Stupid reverse psycholigy.. >:(

I agree with Yorkshire - so long as it's done in a way that's not intrusive, I don't mind. I'm not more likely to go out and buy the new Dodge after seeing it in Crackdown, and I'm not going to sign up for the Royal Navy after seeing the posters in Rainbow 6.

It would be kind of hard to accept in, say, a steampunk RPG, though.

Taking that into mind, does any form for advertising make you more inclined to buy a product? Unless I see something really f*cking cool on a TV commercial or a banner ad, I'm not any more interested in it.

On one of the new XBL maps for Rainbow Six there is an Axe body spray ad. The chick is pretty hot and they got my I already use it. I'm interested to see if it ever changes or if it'll stay that way forever. THey could possibly change it because the new maps take a bit longer to load.

Not generally - with more and more of my spare time spent on internet boards, it's the hype and word of mouth that influences my purchasing decisions.

I don't ever recall a time where I'd see something advertised on TV or whatever and think "I have to get that!".

Haha. I guess you are who they advertise for.

The same as most people on here (I would guess) - when it comes to gadgets, games and the like, I tend to find out about them online long before they get advertised (in the regular sense - they must get advertised by word of mouth etc before they get released - otherwise, how would I know about em - insert catch22 aphorism here)

As for other products, I can't ever remember being influenced because I saw something in a game / product placed in a film. If anything, that would drive me away from the product... with the exception of duff beer. Look what a man that has made of homer.

I think in game ads are great. I like the idea of load screen ads as long as they're entertaining. If it is in-game ads then it should be done tastefully. Not like having every car be a dodge charger, that just pisses me off!

Yeah. It's retarded to think we'd live in a world where you can only drive a charger.

I bought one. A little while after getting R6. OMG..... OMFG

I never even thought about getting a charger until R6 came along.

OMFG. I bought a friggin car becasue of in-game product placement!.... that and because my wife signed off on it.
