The Hump-day Update is a weekly supplement to the Sarcastic Gamer Podcast. This week we shared our thoughts on a certain Florida lawyer who has chosen to capitalize on what he sees as a publicity opportunity in the tragic deaths of students and faculty at Northern Illinois University last week. We also discussed the late-breaking news of Gears of War 2 and ou hopes for the second installation of this "Epic" franchise.

PopTrogdor 02-20-2008, 11:51 PM just listening to the podcast, i know what you guys mean about him. I just hope everyone takes your stance.
Oh and gears of War 2 new stuff looks amazing:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30824.html
dynamic lighting
destructible scenery
tons of enemies on screen
new flesh items that can be affected
new water usage
and im guessing more. I guess im slightly excited about this!
VinDali 02-20-2008, 11:59 PM My sister is a NIU alum and she and her family live only about 5 minutes from campus.
When I heard the breaking news on that tragic afternoon, I immediately called to make sure everyone in her family was o.k.
At the time, they had not said that this Jack A** had put himself down, and I was worried there was some maniac running around DeKalb.
For J.T. to make this about Gaming is just horrendous.
J.T. has absolutely no reason for connecting this to games. The Feds can not figure out what this guy's motivation was. He took steps to make sure they could not figure out what was in his head - removing his hard drive from his computer and SIM card from his cell phone.
STFU J.T.!! Just STFU!
GOW2.
I never played a whole lot of the 1st one due to my addiction to Vegas. So now that Vegas 2 comes out next month maybe I'll be able to pull myself away to play GOW2 when it comes out months later.
indiepenguins 02-21-2008, 12:44 AM Here's a good video on the new Unreal Engine stuff: http://www.megatonik.com/2008/02/20/unreal-engine-3-demonstration-over-100-locusts-on-screen-at-once/
Looks awesome to me.
EDIT: oops, didn't see pop's link.
matt4825 02-21-2008, 03:59 AM I admit, I actually thought justin timberlake had gone into law untill I read the articals on google news. Good call holing it back. It prob would have just pissed people off anyways
grunt birthday clown 02-21-2008, 08:55 AM omg i hate this guy what an asshole
unohisname 02-21-2008, 12:41 PM Thats some sad stuff right there
MassEffect 02-21-2008, 01:40 PM That guy should never have become a lawyer. How did he pass his bar exam.
Lone Medic 02-21-2008, 05:20 PM Gears of War looks amazing! Sad deal with him though.
strika234 02-21-2008, 05:24 PM let us never talk of him again.
anyways, that was another good show, sad, but good nonetheles...
Raven 02-21-2008, 07:15 PM Good show guys, it is a shame that some people manipulate situations like that just to elevate themselves. It is making me consider whether or not I want to get into law after high school.
Back to the topic at hand, it looks like I will probably pick up GoW2 because I'll have my 360 by then. I'm curious to see what comes out of the GDC this year.
Tinman 02-21-2008, 07:19 PM He's a bastard as Doc said. That's all to say. He's a bastard who can't live without something being blamed. And sadly, we are in an industry that is easy to blame. Maybe things will change soon.
mallavu399 02-21-2008, 07:27 PM i am so happy tht u handed jacky t his a** i think its gr8 bc i live near NIU and i am shocked tht this happened. just 1 thing tho... if ur never gone talk about him again on the site its gonna lose some of its jokes
iPlayPC 02-21-2008, 07:49 PM Damn you, JT, you bastard. You deserve to burn in the pits of hell in which you were birthed from a pile of pig shit.
DJ Res 02-21-2008, 09:04 PM I am listening right now...Sick as hell, so a little late to tune in.
As always a dope show!
You guys are absolutly right on to promote ignoring that a$$hole. The only way to silence a jack-ass is to take away his platform.
Keep up the awesome work boys!!!!
naruto20 02-21-2008, 11:07 PM J.T. sucks and we should put him down at sea.
Lono how good of you are a lawyer?
SuperPayne 02-22-2008, 10:09 AM just listening to the podcast, i know what you guys mean about him. I just hope everyone takes your stance.

MartinBlank2007 02-22-2008, 01:16 PM I couldn't agree with you guys more. Being from Illinois and having friends and family that attended N.I.U. I was shocked to turn on the news and see such horrific thing. This is just and idea but maybe if some of the larger developers with deep pockets got together and filed some sort of defamation of character or slander lawsuit against this jackass it would keep him in court long enough that he wouldn't be on Fox News every 2 seconds. He has no proof that games cause acts of violence. He's just a media whore who probably never got any attention at home. This is a tragety and the families involved should be allowed to grieve. My prayers go out to anyone that is involved in this senseless event. I agree that he is great fodder for parodies and jokes but lets not feed the ego beast that is J.T. Games don't kill people, idiots with a warped sense of reality do.
THE MORGANATOR 02-25-2008, 10:42 PM I've registered just so I could post the following. I'm from the UK and I love the fact you guys tell it how it is. You guys are so right to rubbish this guy and I applaud your decision to detail this terrible event on the podcast. The incident is a tragedy and this lawyer is absolute scum.
Keep up the great work guys. I send my condolences to the victims families.

Diortem 02-26-2008, 08:27 AM Great show, and Doc, AMAZING icon for yourself in this forum. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I first saw it.
