I'm planning a major upgrade of my PC, and I'm thinking of these:
Graphics: GIGABYTE 8800GT 512Mb
Processor: Athlon 64 X2 6000+ AM2
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E nForce 570 ultra AM2
And my RAM is 2 gigs
Is this a good setup?

Go for Intel if you can. The graphics cards is good however.

Why should I pick Intel?

I would agree to go with intel. Is it Quad or Dual your after.
New dual is £114 (soz I'm English) about $230

The Intel Core2Duos are much cheaper than AMD's counterparts. Benchmarks have proven that the Core2Duos perform better, also. Many games are also Core2Duo optimized.

Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz would be a good choice?

3.00 GHz 1333MHz FSB and it's 45nm.

will easily hit over 4.00GHz on decent air cooling.

I agree, definitely get an Intel. The rest looks fine.

Go for the P35 chipset or X38 if you have the cash.

I'm using P35 with C2D 3Ghz. It's pretty darn good.

It's your choice, AMD are usually cheaper, but don't perform as well as the intel, personally i would go with an intel, but if you can afford a faster AMD, then in some ways that would be a better option.

Also depends on your price range, Mav - even though the E8400 is v.good, it's about £100 more than the one he has atm, and could be out of price range. But of course if it was affordable, then by all means that is the one to get!

But i'd say stick with what you have got unless you can push the boat out a little more

I've got a question for all the Limeys around here. Why haven't you guys switched to Euros like the rest of the EU?
