So as we all know, there is no "serious" videogame award chow/ceremony. So I was thinking Videogames need something like the Oscars. What do you think?

Which ones? there are so many and most of them are rather... how shall I put this, rigged, I believe would be the appropiate word

the ones on Spike TV, the best part was how the winners were shown, they were revieled on the boddies of beautiful women. some truley great body painting, but the rest of the show sucked

I really don't understand why there isn't a serious video game awards show. It doesn't need to be on the scale of the Oscars, but it could definitely be much better than how video game awards are currently given. Gaming has gotten to the point where high quality productions are fairly common. Some great examples of this are Mass Effect, Bioshock, God of War, and Half-Life 2. These games, among others, contain developed characters (actors) and amazing stories (screenplay) as well as beautiful visuals (special effects) and great music (score). Modern video games have a lot in common with movies these days. A serious video game awards show may seem like an unlikely event, but the growth of the industry could lead to one in the future.

It would be really sweet (c'mon G4!).

The Spike VGA's are downright awful IMO.

While I agree, I would love to see a serious video game award show, I dont want to compare it the oscars....

I was thinking about it this morning (GMT+1, just to clarify) and the only conclusion I could get to was that we should definitely start a Sarcastic Gamer video game award show.
Can you think of the billions of people watching Lono on their TVs, millions of websites speculating which game will get the Game of the Year award... aww...

I'm pretty much on the same page with you guys about the Spike VGA's. Plus I dont really trust the "game of the year" awards given from a "nameless" website. So I like to stick to the indie guys about what really are the games of the year. And it should be voted on by the gamers not a panel of "experts"

I like to trust the wheel of awards. But truley joking aside even if we don't get an awards system set up, Sarcastic gamer could do it I mean most of us trust their game choices right?

I forgot if sarcastic gamer gave awards for 2007 but they should definitely have a few categories and do a people votes one and a personal one for each member for 2008.

The Oscars are getting sort of out of style... they had 5 unwatched movies (except for Juno, and that was a total surprise) up for best picture.

Yeah, they show each year who in the movie industry has passed away (actors, directors, etc). And BTW, now they show when agents die. Freakin' movie agents that no one cares about.

It saddens me how pathetic the Oscars have gotten to be.

No Country For Old Men was a great movie, though.

We got a videogame award in practically every gaming website with more than 17 viewers out there. Makes you stick to the ones that are closer to home for you.

damn right they do...hell screw the tuxedos and dresses dress up as a character from your game...like the Valve guys dressing up as TF2 characters for there Halloween party
