View Full Version : Will Army of 2 be better than Kane & Lynch?
MightyMutt 02-27-2008, 09:24 AM At one time both Army of Two and Kane & Lynch were 2 games supposedly designed around co-op play that were both due to be released around the same time.
Rumours persisted that both were poor games and the company's in charge took very different approaches to handling the problem.
Eidos decided to spend a lot of money to cover-up the fact they were publishing a sub-standard game and caught a lot of bad press when the proverbial hit the fan.
The evil conglomerate, know as EA, took a different approach, i.e. they took the game back to the drawing board and made tweeks and amendments. (such as removing the highly criticised vehicle sections.)
I think this should be commended. Everyone was very quick to sing EA's praises when they were seemed to 'rush to Mass Effect's defence' but considering that was their game, then they had a financial interest to do so. The delaying of Army of Two is one of the first times I have given EA props, but I think they deserve it.
Will Army of 2, benefit from its extra development time or would they have been better having another Xmas turkey on the shelves next to Kane and Lynch? I imagine EA's advertising budget is bigger than Eidos' maybe they could have paid Gamespot enough to get 10/10.
A wiser man than me once said that a delayed game is only delayed for a time whereas a bad game is bad forever.
greeneyedpsyko 02-27-2008, 09:36 AM It'lll be better than Beautiful Katimari... which is more than i can say for kane and lynch.
It should be awesome
PopTrogdor 02-27-2008, 09:36 AM well listening to alot of podcasts which have talked about this game, it seems when it was sent out to reviewers originally reviewers came back and said...er this is shite. And according to new reports some people having gotten hold of a little go of the new improved army of two, have said its sooo much better and is now a good game.
And seen as though Kane and Lynch's redeeming feature was its multiplayer, and that was still lack-lustre, i think that army of two will be better than it, by how much i dont know, and i probably won't be buying it anyway, maybe a rent if i found out its worth it
viatrophy 02-27-2008, 09:39 AM I hope Army Of Two will be better, as Ive been looking forward to this game for a while.
Kayne and Lynch weren't the best of games, The online was quite amusing, but thats all it had going for it.
the 6th degree 02-27-2008, 10:52 AM Yeah - Army of Two will be better; even if the graphics and handling are as bad as K&L, the online multiplay campaign should redeem itself.
iPlayPC 02-27-2008, 11:18 AM I hope Army of Two will be a great game and once again prove that cooperative play is the best way to go in campaigns. That is, I hope...
greeneyedpsyko 02-27-2008, 11:26 AM I'll probably buy this game after I rent it. Does anyone know for sure if you can play on the same box co-op? Because the worst thing they could do to that game is take split-screen out.
...Well maybe not the worst thing, but I definitely won't buy it if they do
Hollowcow 02-27-2008, 11:49 AM I believe Army Of Two will be very good. Lets just hope I don't eat those words later.
animathias 02-27-2008, 11:52 AM I'm certain Army of Two will be leagues better than Kane & Lynch. If it were August, however, and the game was still slated for release in November, I would have thought otherwise. The delay can do nothing but help this one.
MgckSpiral1 02-27-2008, 12:05 PM i'll put it this way, it LOOKS like it will be better than kane & lynch. all we can do is hope.
@ greeneyedpsyko
according to the army of two site FAQs , "Will there be split screen online in Army of Two? (2 people on one console vs. another team of two over the Internet)
-Yup. You can play split screen (if you are on the same console) against 2 guys playing split screen or 2 people playing with each other online... "

Emophia 02-27-2008, 12:58 PM I certainly hope so.
Artemas 02-27-2008, 01:00 PM It will be better than K&L for sure but that doesn't really say much.
I had high hopes for this game but after seeing the XBL trailer, it got bumped down to a rent on my list.
MightyMutt 02-27-2008, 01:32 PM It will be better than K&L for sure but that doesn't really say much.
That may well be true but when the games were first being demoed, many people believed that K&L would be the superior game. This was probably influenced by the IO's Hitman history.
I hope Army of Two will be a great game and once again prove that cooperative play is the best way to go in campaigns
Yeah I hope the co-op is good coz a good multiplayer campaign is more fun.
I wish more games had 4 player co-op - most times I prefer that to the obligatory multiplayer deathmatch that everyones forces into their game. I didn't even attempt MP in games like Stranglehold (not helped by the fact that the single player portions were rubbish) but still I can't help thinking that if they had put the money and resources into the one player game (even just making the main game co-op) then it might have been a better game for it.
HAHAHA :D I just read that Lionsgate films have bought the rights to the movie adaptation of K&L. Although the story did get some praise so maybe it will be better than the game, but then again it might be better if they made the Eidos/gamespot fiasco into a film - we might finally hear what happened.
balaamsafe 02-27-2008, 03:00 PM i didn't think it was possible to suck more than K+L.
And from the previews ive soon of Ao2 it looks alright
not a purchase, but i'm sure there will be a demo soon, so we can give that a look in
The Beezs 02-27-2008, 10:53 PM From what I've heard, Army of Two isn't a game worth $60, merely a rental. While the campaign is good in co-op mode, the multiplayer is shite and hardly a redeeming factor of the game.
But then again, I've heard all the complaints against Kane & Lynch, and yet I love the game to itty bitty pieces (if it ever came to that...). So I believe this will be a game that hinders on the either love it or hate it spectrum.
Canuck 02-27-2008, 11:00 PM I think that Army of Two will shape up to be at least a decently good game, since EA actually took the time to finish the game this time. Co-op mode sounds great, and the MP sounds to be a little tacked-on but may prove to be fun.
And the producers seem to actually be listening to the community this time. They're answering questions over here (http://boards.ign.com/army_of_two/b10545/157317877/p1) about Army of Two, and have already answered a ridiculous amount.
Once again, I'll wait till the reviews come out, but I have decent hopes for this game. And it comes out in less then 2 weeks, too.
And to answer the question: Yes, Army of Two will be better then Kane and Lynch, because K&L absolutely sucked. There's no way Army of Two can be as bad as that.
Truth N Justice 02-29-2008, 04:24 PM without a doubt Army of 2 will be better. a least it better be after the delays or there are going to be some angry people
