Sure there are still games out there like Killzone 2 or Call of Duty 5, but in reality, have we seen all the originality the next gen systems are going to offer? Will we continue to see the leveling up of games like Madden and Metal Gear Solid, leaving us to wonder what might have been? If there is to be a new experience to had out there, something that will wow us like Bioshock or Little Big Planet, what game will it be?

Obviously we havent. No other system has ever peaked in its first 2 years and this gen is no different.

there is so much more to come, we are yet to see project offset and heavy rain, and by god, they look intense

Absolutely not. Remember the PS2? It took devs ages to come out with a graphical hit on that one. Square Enix took 2 years to publish FFX from the release date of the console, and i suspect they were one of the lucky ones, i.e. to have a talented dev team to pull off all the bells and whistles at a time where the devs were bitching on how hard it was to develop on the PS2. Look at the other 1st gen PS2 games.. they looked atrocious.... with the exception of maybe GT3 and a few others.

So i say devs have yet to cross the generational hump for this gen.

Yeah even the guys at insomniac said that they could do twice as much stuff now with the PS3 then a year ago. Taking that into account I'm pretty sure the average game on the PS3 will look much better in 2 years. And those games that rule our calendars will blow our minds :D

There is so much coming. I think that when a system peaks is when another system is announced and coming in less than a year.

I heard something on G4 like a year ago that there was talks of makeing console life spans of 10 years instead of 5. Even God of war 2 was not realy on any ones radar untill after the PS3 came out. The extra 5 years will give the devs a chance to realy prove what their company and respective systems can do.

No. Absolutely not. Next-gen current-gen systems still have a long way to go before they peak. I personally think that games like Gears 2 and Crysis 1.5 (yes, it's coming) will raise the bar for consoles, and in 2 years, the average game will look much better then the average game does today.

Simple answer, no it has not peaked and it will not peak. Even the wii is capable of more than what developers are putting on it now.

Dont know, but like any system, it's peak will occur when developers no longer can feasably push further around it's bottleneck (which as Ive said many times, this generation is RAM IMHO). While I dont believe we have reached THAT yet, I do believe the free-ride is over. Devs now need to start getting cleaver to push the envelope. I think Crysis will be the perfect testing grounds for that. (But why 1.5? As far as gameplay material, Im expecting more a Crysis Vengence, and that is what this company has done in the past.)

I dont blame them to be honest. I couldnt imagine the difficulties of writing for a system without an OS like that.... but that's how it beat the odds and continued to do cutting edge stuff LONG after it should have been over for the system. It's a trade-off.
