View Full Version : GTA 4 Hands-on
Canuck 02-28-2008, 08:35 PM IGN finally got a hands-on session with GTA 4. The American/normal preview can be seen here (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/855/855555p1.html), while the UK preview is here (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/855/855605p1.html) and the Australian (and more explanatory preview IMO) can be read here (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/855/855785p1.html).
Needless to say, this game is looking absolutely amazing. With new melee, lock-on and cover systems, drive-bys, improved wanted mechanics, Euphoria and all the little details and improvements in between, it looks like GTA 4 will be the best open-world game ever.
Can't wait.
Tinman 02-28-2008, 09:25 PM First off- Prototype will be the best sandbox game ever.
Second-KICK_ASS!!!
Artemas 02-28-2008, 10:00 PM Looks pretty good. Lets hope it was worth the wait.

Idunno, I think Rockstar has far more experience (and success) in the genre then Radical Entertainment - their only entry into the genre is The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which was okay.
Much as I am excited for Prototype, I can guarantee that GTA 4 will be better then Prototype and recieve a better score from the press as well.
Tinman 02-28-2008, 10:29 PM I may kill you. Maybe not today, maybe not tommorow, but I may.
Yeah Rockstar has experience But Radical is pretty damn good. With enough effort it could easily DEMOLISH all competition.

Sure, with enough effort it may be at a similar level to GTA 4, but that's like saying that games like Just Cause 2 and Mercenaries 2 can also attain that level with enough effort (only Pandemic actually has a good track record).
Radical's best projects were The Hulk, Scarface and The Simpsons. None of them were great. Prototype is looking great, but these kinds of things often look great but end up being mediocre or good at best. The unique feature of Prototype, the unique shapeshifting ability and essentially "unlimited" powers, has only been shown in a very limited form and despite what has been said, I'm getting this lingering feeling that the feature won't be nearly as fleshed-out as they promise it to be.
GTA 4, on the other hand, is not exactly a new concept, but Rockstar invented the concept of open-world games in the first place, so they're essentially perfecting the genre with GTA 4 (assuming they can pull it off). Rockstar has a far better track record then Radical, and the vast majority of their titles have been classics or at least good. I don't see how you can claim that Prototype can actually be better then GTA 4. It's like trying to say that LOTR Online is superior to WoW.
It's not that I think Prototype will suck. I just think that GTA 4 will undoubtedly be better.
Truth N Justice 02-28-2008, 11:41 PM i hope that all the delays were worth it . I hope it doesnt have a halo over hype problem. screens look good , but only time will tell

There was only one delay, but I agree, I sure hope it doesn't succumb to the "Halo Effect", or severe overhype. I honestly think that this will actually live up to the hype at this point, though.

Artemas 02-29-2008, 02:12 PM What hype? Ive barely even seen any thing on GTA. I even forgot about untill this thread was made.

I have to agree with Canuck on this. I too am also looking forward to Prototype but it may just be another Assassins creed.
mrpuggywuggy 02-29-2008, 02:30 PM GTA 4 is looking great.
I will buy it on launch day, just the regular game not the special edition with the bag and other extras.
Emophia 02-29-2008, 03:13 PM "For the first time, Rockstar gave us hands-on access to both the PS3 and 360 versions of GTA IV. The good news is that no matter which system you prefer, you're going to have a great-looking game to play. There are only some minor visual differences noticeable between the two preview versions. The 360 build is brighter and has slightly more vibrant color while the PS3 build has less aliasing issues. Both display a solid, consistent framerate even during scenes with heavy pedestrian traffic and wild explosions. While graphics whores will find subtle differences to nitpick, the average Joe is going to be happy with either version."
Nice, that means people could get either version and be happy with it.
That;s good.
The attention to detail in this game seems amazing.
Can't wait.
I totally forgot about this game, but now it's totally on my hype wagon.
