What’s better than Call of Duty 4? More Call of Duty 4! We all knew that new maps were coming for Infinity Ward’s blockbuster shooter, but we just got some juicy details on two of them.
Well thankfully, Gamespot, yes Gamespot, got some hands-on time with the new maps, and we’re here to relay that information to you.
One tasty nugget from Robert “Fourzerotwo” Bowling was the revelation that the environments in the game were no longer going to be strictly Middle Eastern or Russian settings. Since the team has moved on from the campaign, they’re free to work on different areas. Even that slight change should breathe some fresh air into the multiplayer.
That’s not to say that every map will deviate from the current environment. The first map to be revealed will be called “Broadcast.” It’s taken straight from the TV station in the single player campaign. I can only imagine the types of battles that may be waged in such a structure. Most of CoD4’s current maps are either completely open, or one level. Broadcast will feature 2 floors filled with small rooms, hallways, and multiple routes into the main room on the first floor. The map also features a roof and a large parking lot, meaning your helicopters won’t just be there for moral support.

One completely new map that was revealed will be called “Creek.” Creek could be a breath of fresh air I talked about earlier. This map has definitely got my Sniper Senses tingling. Gamespot described it as a “Very large-scale outdoor map with a small cluster of houses on one side of it.” There’s going to be a huge ravine around the map with plenty of paths in and out of it. Therewill also be a cave that will wind underneath a hill for you sneaky types out there. Sounds like snipers will have to watch their backs, such an open environment comes with a price.

There will be 4 maps in the upcoming pack, though only these two were revealed thus far. The other two are tentatively named “Chinatown” and “Killhouse.” Killhouse was described as a variation on the training level from the single player campaign. Sounds like good times.
The Pack will be available on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 sometime soon for an unannounced price. Hopefully, they don’t stick us too hard with it, but thus far I think $5 would be a healthy price to pay. The pack is also coming to PC, but no pricing details have been released. Due to IW’s history, it wouldn’t be unheard of to have it be released for free. One can only hope. Now get your asses moving IW, cause I’m sick and tired of Overgrown, Vacant and Crash.
