View Full Version : When Did Sniping Lose Its' Respect?

I remember a time when you sniped someone you would get some praise because sniping someone from a far distance is hard.

Now all the idiots just shoot Grenade Launchers in the air at spawn time and if they are lucky enough to get someone, they are congratulated and worshipped. Now when you snipe someone you are instantly labelled as a camper.

What's your thoughts about this?

Never, only if you have someone who stays a sniper the whole time, and dies maybe twice a map (usually he suicides because hes out of ammo). That would be a camper, but like myself, I'll go snipe till I'm out of ammo and then go hunting with nades and a pistol. Occasionally I take out the knife

People resent those with skill at something. Since sniping takes skill, which random nades do not, the snipers receive the hate. That's basically it.

I usually play (Hardcore) Search and Destroy so I really don't run out of ammo but I am always getting 'Noob Tubed' as soon as I spawn. But when ever I run out of ammo I just run straight at people with a pistol like a suicidal mad man.

People get jealous. If you do a helluva lot better than everyone and are sniping, you a camper apparently.

Pretty much. Whenever I get bitched at for camping, I start to brag about my 25/2 ratio. Doesn't help the situation much but once in blue-ish yellow red moon someone who was complaining has a revalation.

Camping in all it's forms is a very good tactic. How many real world soldiers run straight toward their enemy(Note, suicide bombers don't count.)?

I remember Wolf: ET, great game by the way, I stole a uniform as a sniper/covey right at the beginning of the game. But I got shoot to about 12 health. (Really sucked) I sneaked in behind their spawn point, in between respawns. And started sniping (yea this was camping) every once in a while I ran into the base to reload all my weapons. but 5 min to the end of the map, my own team starting arty the place, and tk me. Either way I didn't run back but I did have a 227 - 1 kill ratio for that map. Good old days.

Now that was the best camping I had in any game.

In the real world how many people would run past the same point only to die, then have their bodies disappear so the next person didn't know what happened

Greatest way to snipe is to snipe one or two people then move somewhere where you can see where you used to be. Your victoms will try to come for you and you get more kills. *smiles evily* I stole this from Anamathias. (sp)

In the Case of CoD4 you cannot always be accused of cammping because the killcams ruin you sniping experiance. However when you are playing Hardcore i generaly choose to snipe all the snipers on the opposite team and then pick off anybody elce i see. when i am accused of camping i point out that the only reason that they are mad is that they themselfs suck at sniping and therefor think it's a noob tactic. Personaly i would take a 50. caliber barret over an assault rife anyday.

In CoD4 it usually ends up that I get one or two knife kills after I run out of ammo...Which makes sense, because my Sniper Custom class is labelled "Ninja" xD

I know a friend who has taken camping from a tactic to a way of life. He has all potential camping spots on every map memorized, and by that I mean he can spawn, put on a blindfold, and get to a prime camping spot complete with claymores placed in stratigic positions. I was there, it was crazy. The dude compensates for the killcam by staying in the scope before and after he fires.

ha yeah i do this too!

i love sniping. I find it the most rewarding challenge in the game. Those M21 150 headshots were not easy.

One of the greatest feelings is when you play a map and go 32-1 with 15+ headshots w/ the Red tiger Dragunov. Then you get back to the lobby and you hear "Camper, noob, leave!"

Well, Im a CamperNoob with 32 K/d and 15 headshots....so..... :P

Only time I have an issue with camping is when you camp a spawn point. That isnt even fair and/or giving people a chance to play. Ok, so you are killing your opponent, but there is such a thing as sportsmanship (and yes, I will give my own teamates hell for camping a spawn point too).

Probably not relevant to COD 4. I have never played it multiplayer. But my general disregard for sniping players came from Battlefield 2. I have yet to meet a sniper on a public server that did anything to help their team win. They just sit in a prime spot and snipe away. However the few kills they rack up do very little to help the overall mission, which would be capturing control points.

In clan games it was a whole other story and the sniper could actually provide covering fire etc. But in public they were just frag whores.

Myself I would rather be charging up the middle with an assault rifle and defribulator. Or better yet in a jet.

Yeah I hate that to, like when I am in Search and Destroy and there is just one person left on the other team and everyone goes to look for them. I head to the spawn and I see no one there and then I get shot in the face by someone who is hiding at his spawn in the corner with a Uzi.

People show no respect to those with an advantage over them. Simple truth.

I don't think sniping lost its respect its the XBL community (a.k.a 12 year olds). I personally do not snipe cause i suck at it. But people hate it because if they are killed by one there is usally no way to prevent your death. When you have a smg/assault class if you die most of the time its your fault. But I have no problems with snipers, in fact i get a lot of kill because of them due to the you know NOT MOVING, so once they kill you once you know where they are (except hardcore).

thats my 2 cents

I enjoy sniping, but once I'm out of ammo I'll just grab the nearest gun and run like a madman.

I snipe all the time. The only time I don't is when I'm on wet works, vacancy, or something like that. I move around a lot, but I often go back to spots later in a game(which is why I get accused of camping all the time. I usually get a min. of 18 kills with about 2-4 deaths. that's on my good levels like bloc, downpour, overgrown, and others that I can't remember the names of.
I like sniping HUH. (heh eheh). Sniping is good though. I hate It when people bitch about me sniping. To them I say "Quit bitching, and grow a pair, Dickass" (unless it's a girl... Then I'm a bit nicer about it) (but oddly enough, they're not the ones bitching about stuff)

Sometimes I ask what is considered to be more noobish.

A sniper staking out a single spot racking up 20+ kills and 10+ headshots with 1-3 deaths. And not being killed even with 20+ kill cams on him. And having to use a gun that is one shot and whose accuracy depends on the user.

OR

A person equipped with 3x Frag, Stopping Power and Matyrdom, along with an RPG w/ RDS spamming bullets in a general area trying to get a kill from a guy he thought he saw run back there. He gets 15 ish kills and 10+ deaths. Plus, he is the kind of guy who tosses all three frags in random areas BUT he is a run and gunner! So he should get mad respect....right?

I don't think its lost respect. I think most people are just frustrated at getting sniped a lot (me included). However, that's just part of the game. If you don't want to get sniped, use cover and concealment. If you're running down the road on "District" like you're in a marathon, you should expect to get shot. Move through the buildings. Use two man crossings for open roads (if one gets shot the other can duck, cover, and return fire). Play smarter.

Do people remember Everything or Nothing on the PS2? That had the dragunov in it. The first time I enjoyed sniping. The dragunov is my favourite weapon. Its fantastic.

You don't know the guy I know, he is an amazng sniper. his KD ratio is usually pretty high in BF 2 and he actually helps his team. He like using the base sniper gun for the MEC
