We all knew it was going to happen. Bungie told us as much after the release of the Heroic map pack back in December. Just in time to pull some attention from Rainbow Six Vegas 2, more information is trickling out about the Legendary Map Pack due out this Spring. I think they’ve run out of cool names, maybe the next map pack will be “Easy.”
Take the jump to get this avalanche of information!
Alright, so I lied. It’s not a whole lot of information, just a couple of nuggets. Two maps from the pack of 3 have been revealed thus far: Ghost Town and Avalanche. While that isn’t much news on its own, the reveal of Avalanche came with pricing details and a date for the release. April 15th for 800 points. If only they released it 3 weeks earlier, our Halo Jesus jokes would be more relevant. Well, there’s always Greek Orthodox jokes, right?

The first map, Ghost Town, is a small 24th century water purification complex that’s in ruins. The setting is in the jungle near where the first mission of Halo 3 takes place, so the ruins are covered with vegetation and a trees loom over the battles held below. It looks very nice, but really, a water purification complex? That’s not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of a Sci-Fi first-person shooter.

Onward to the second map, Avalanche. This one is the spiritual offspring of the famed Halo CE map Sidewinder. While Bungie claims it’s not a direct remake, they did let everyone know that the best things about the original Sidewinder would stay intact. Things like snow, the familiar u-shape, snow, multiple ways from base to base, snow, ice, and plenty of vehicles.
In addition, all of the vehicles from the Warthog to the Hornet have been reskinned on this map with an icy blue camouflage. Speaking of the Hornet, it’s also getting a pretty big nerf. On Avalanche, the air vehicle will no longer have missles and its machine guns have been toned down. So I guess no more mass slaughter from the air.
All in all, it looks like something any Halo fan will want to sink their teeth into. If you were one of the fans waiting for the Heroic pack to become free, that day is fast approaching. While no details on map #3 have really been revealed yet, fans of the game can rest easy, because it certainly looks like Bungie knows what they’re doing.
Woot! Got to the end of the article without mentioning Call of Duty 4! Oops.
