I remember this ages ago. it was a new console where you downloaded ALL your games off the net and i think it was shown at E3 about 3-4 years ago. they also had a snazzy website with pics of this amazing new machine.

well it died a death without even coming out.

what are your thoughts on this? i know its old news but i just thought about it today and thought id make a post

here is the wiki link about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_(game_system))

Even at that time there was no room for another console.

I think one problem is that people know (and love) certain "names". So if a new console comes out without people knowing who made it, especially when there are so many good names in the biz, it's probably going to die without much fuss.

Oh yeah I remember the Phantom. Had VaporWare in its name basically. It could had been a pretty cool thing to have a Steam-like service in your living room where every game would work for your "Phantom". Also the "Lapboard" looked pretty cool.

Infinium Labs is a company existing solely to scam people.

Seriously, there is so much shady business regarding them, it would take days to read through it all. The Phantom was doomed from the get-go.

And about the lapboard, they started taking "preorders" for it a couple months ago, with no feasible release date. I've heard of a couple people trying to order one, but getting their card charged multiple times. Not sure if that's true or not, but it really wouldn't surprise me.

Oh yeah totally. I mean it looked cool but come one. If you actually thought it was a good idea to give $130 dollars to a company that is know only for trying to make this one "uber console" that never happened. In that case you should give me $500,000 and I'll make you a time machine so you can get your money back from them.

It sounded like it could have been the future of PC gaming. But the bit at the end of the wiki entry, about it being taken for industrial use by Teague? Is that a sign of a revival perhaps? I didn't like the sound of no discs. What if your internet was bad?

Another console that flopped but was released instead was the Gizmondo.

Terrible machine and not worth any money now. Two games at launch? The games weren't even that good!

Yeah, when I get bored I just surf youtube and find some pretty cool stuff sometimes. I also have not owned any of those, and have only heard of some of them.
