Hey, I just got Starcraft from a friend, but it will not run on my computer. I think it installed alright, but when I try to play, all that comes up is a black screen. I have a widescreen monitor and have had issues similar to this but never just a black screen. Also, I'm running it on Windows Vista. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Got Xfire running? Turn off the in game overlay (options/games/starcraft/disable xfire ingame). That gave me lots of graphic corruption. Might not be that though since I run my games on XP and Ive no idea how well it runs/if it runs on vista.

If you have FarCry installed and you didn't pay attention to what you were doing, then you probably installed Xfire. Check your Control Panel.

Also, make sure you've got the latest patch and drivers, etc.

Okay, that got me past the Blizzard Entertainment ad. Then, another black screen. Only this time, it not only distorts the graphics on my desktop when I open the task manager, it forces me to restart the computer.

make SURE xfire is not running.
ctl + alt + delete -> processes -> look for xfire.
Xfire screwed my Starcraft over, so i have to exit xfire whenever i play it.
but if you really don't have xfire, then all of this is useless.

Xfire has no hold on my PC what so ever. I think it has to do with the fact that I am using a widescreen monitor, Windows Vista, and that StarCraft has no resolution settings.

thats odd..like any computer since like 6 years ago could probably run it..so you shoudnt have a problem without meeting teh sytem reqs...hmmm yeah xfire can really screw up your gaming experience..

Ya, it really makes me sad. Well, I'm gonna just admit defeat and give the game back to my friend. So, I declare this thread dead. Mods, please close it. I'll just get StarCraft 2 when it comes out...

My primary rig has Vista, I still do have my Starcraft + Broodwar disc & I do have X fire installed. I will install Starcraft when I get home from work to see what the problem is.
