View Full Version : Over an Hour just to play GT5
Hooded Vendetta 03-29-2008, 08:25 PM OK OK, Heres the story. I bought the Jap version of GT5P a while ago (couple of days after its release) Was pretty pleased with the game
So When the game came out over in the UK I'd thought it would be worth picking up. Got the game and finished my shift, Went home and turned the PS3 up :cool2:
Sign into my profile and it wouldnt sign into PSN, Thought whateva and inserted the disc, I had to wait over 20 minutes for the 6GB install to do. Then started up the game and It said I needed to download an Update, if Its the same as the Jap version its for online (not sure why its not on the disc, but w/e).
It then says I need to connect to PSN to download the update.... Fair enough, Have to manually quit off the game, click sign in to PSN, and what do you know, the console needs to download system 2.20 update , So I click accept and wait for it to download.
After its downloaded it then needs to install :undecided: After 40 minutes of that downloading and then installing I then start GT5 up, Click accept to all the terms and conditions then it starts to update the game.
After a while.... Failed :undecided: .... Trys again ..... Failed  Trys again ..... Failed
Now this was happening to alot of people when the Jap update came out. So I knew it would work.
So around an hour and 15 minutes of me first putting the disc into the console I finally get to play it
[/END RANT]
Annoying to say the least, Glad 360 is half the haslte :) I dred what GTA will be like :lipssealed::wink2:
NeonSkull 03-29-2008, 09:06 PM It does suck a lot having to wait. but on the plus side i would rather they take advantage of the hd than not use it and the games suffer in the long run. i went out and got the game came home, spent some time with my baby girl whilst installing and updating so the wait did not affect me.
PopTrogdor 03-29-2008, 09:33 PM i never had to do an update... 15 mins then i was in, glad i had to have a bath so i just went in while it was installing, otherwise i would have been angry waiting for it :P
NeonSkull 03-30-2008, 05:45 PM updates when you select to play online.
THE MORGANATOR 03-31-2008, 02:52 AM Ok, I admit it - I'm a 360 supporter and proud of it. I happily ignore a lot of the 360 issues although I do try to be impartial when possible. One of my chums just went through the same issue (and hour and half just to play this online) and I've got to ask the question: are you guys seriously ignoring a major issue because you support your chosen console? How can this be right? Now please take a breath and consider my comments respectfully (I'm not personally insulting you by asking this question.)
At what point can it be right that it takes this long on a console? Ok, so you work around it due to various individual social conditions, but seriously - how is this correct? If I want to play forza on 360, I put it in and i'm online instantly. If a buddy wants to play a game I just purchased, it's in the box and I'm on. If this happened on 360, there would be an outrage and people would almost certainly jump ship to its competitors.
Do some of you think you're ignoring a bad situation because you support the console?
Hooded Vendetta 03-31-2008, 05:12 AM I agre Morg, Im mostly a 360 gamer and play my 360 much much more than the ps3 for the simple fact it has better games and better features.
But if the 360 had this problem no doubt that the PS3 fanboys would be quick to jump on it.
Over an hour! Duuuude, An hour to play a game :| It really is terrible.
Ala Douche 03-31-2008, 06:22 AM Ok, I admit it - I'm a 360 supporter and proud of it. I happily ignore a lot of the 360 issues you've made that very obvious in multiple posts, in multiple threads, in multiple sections (including now the PS3 section). although I do try to be impartial when possible. One of my chums just went through the same issue (and hour and half just to play this online) and I've got to ask the question: are you guys seriously ignoring a major issue because you support your chosen console? How can this be right? Now please take a breath and consider my comments respectfully (I'm not personally insulting you by asking this question.)
i could ask you the same thing. how do you ignore a 33% failure rate? we all put up with issues to support whichever console we enjoy more, but if you're going to say you ignore the fact that 1/3 of the xboxes in the world are completely failing and are forcing customers to wait as long as a month just to get their console back, a half hour (i've never waited longer than that for any update or install) of updating every once in a while sounds like nothing.

i think people ignore a mildly annoying situation because we enjoy the games that are coming out for this console. nobody here works for sony, and with the exception of a very few, nobody here is a PS3 fanboy (wish i could say the same about xbox fanboys).
i'll also say that i personally got a PS3, because i feel it will outlast the 360 by probably twice the lifespan. i think this year alone greatly favors the PS3 as far as exclusive games. i think the PS3's hardware is way more reliable, and to me, that's a bigger issue (by miles) than having to wait for updates every so often.

Most 360 owners know of the 3RL's but not all have experienced it.
NeonSkull 03-31-2008, 06:41 AM 1080p 60fps, look stunning, thats why i dont mind about the small wait. I waited years for the next gen gt update why should i be bothered about waiting a little bit longer to play. Why do 360 owners feel the need to make something out of nothing. If you dont like installing games to the harddrive, followed by an update download, then sell your ps3 now. It is only going to get worst over time.
THE MORGANATOR 03-31-2008, 11:45 AM Ala Douche - Thats exactly the kind of response I was trying to avoid. Congratulations for staying on topic too.
When referring to others as a fanboy, please remember to look a little closer to home before you post.
Emophia 03-31-2008, 04:34 PM Ala Douche - Thats exactly the kind of response I was trying to avoid. Congratulations for staying on topic too.
Like your post was on topic in the first place?
Face it, your response was hardly any less fanboyish then his, if anything it was more, and since you have no counter argument you just accuse him of being a fanboy, smart one moron.
Not to mention this incident was isolated to one game, big freaking deal.
Installs on the other hand I don't mind, I'm a PC game, used to almost hour long installs, I got plenty of other shit to do while waiting 20 minutes, normally i'll just call someone up.
Most 360 owners know of the 3RL's but not all have experienced it.
That's funny, since I personally only know 2 that haven't, and I personally know a lot 360 owners.
Still, TC, that's some bad shit, it's a shame,
I know a couple people that had that for the first little while the game was out, it shouldn't happen, the servers were crammed with too many people updating, Sony should have forseen it, good thing it's an issue of teh past.
And I've only heard about it happening for teh UK version.

When referring to others as a fanboy, please remember to look a little closer to home before you post.Yet you brought the 360 into it? and the 3RL's? When it has nothing to do with the topic :undecided::thumbsup::lol:
Dementri 03-31-2008, 04:56 PM lolz we have gone totally off topic, anyway, over an hour just to play a game, i think i would just not bother lol
Ala Douche 03-31-2008, 08:20 PM Ala Douche - Thats exactly the kind of response I was trying to avoid. Congratulations for staying on topic too.
this was my direct response to the last question you asked....
i think people ignore a mildly annoying situation because we enjoy the games that are coming out for this console.
and i also mentioned other things, on your topic. playing devil's advocate.
@hooded vendetta: you will just give up playing it because you have to wait an hour after buying it? come on, nobody's that impatient.
Hooded Vendetta 04-01-2008, 05:24 AM @hooded vendetta: you will just give up playing it because you have to wait an hour after buying it? come on, nobody's that impatient.Where did I say that?
Ala Douche 04-01-2008, 07:43 AM over an hour just to play a game, i think i would just not bother lol
^^^
sorry, i just realized that was dementri, not you. hahahaha.
the question still stands for dementri!
Hooded Vendetta 04-01-2008, 04:41 PM Lol :P

You are far and away the most stupid person on this forum. You show up just to be a PS3 fangirl wherever there is a debate on any topic. The point that the Morganator was saying was totally valid, and you just came on to criticise HIS opinion.
You strike me as being someone who has always played on playstation consoles (and PC) and paid £450 for a PS3. You have clearly never played an Xbox 360 or are just pissed that you made the wrong choice and are trying to convince yourself otherwise.
To the Morganator, whilst I agree with some of your points, I have been waiting for GT5 Prologue for a very long time. It is a very accomplished racing game with awesome graphics. Us PS3 owners don't have Forza and so I think however good that game may be is a moot point in this thread.
I had a very similar experience to the guy who started the thread. I inserted GT5 Prologue into the PS3 and spent 30 mins downloading the game onto the console. I then had to update, update and update my PS3 again and again, over and over for more than an hour. This was totally unacceptable and I have found that loading different aspects of the game are still slow. I really hope that other game designers do not follow this format as it is very frustrating.
Emophia, I apologise for coming accross as being negative, but instead of merely attacking others, why don't you try and come up with some reasoned and intelligent points to back up whatever side of the debate that you believe in. Blind allegiance has never made for good discussion.
THE MORGANATOR 04-01-2008, 10:57 PM Ala Douche - your direct response to my post had little or no bearing on my original statement. Would you like to reconsider your post, as I expressly stated I wasn't trying to insight some form of fanboy rage. I was told that this forum encouraged debate and I have actively discussed PS3 issues with Rothbart with no malice whatsoever. Can I not ask a question or make a comment without people reacting in a blatantly childish manner? FFS, Emophia above even referred to me as 'a moron'. Are you actually going to moderate or can I only post in the 360 section?
Genuine PS3 members are reporting a concern (see thread title) and that was where my post related. Raising the RRoD issue had no bearing to the title or my original post.
Diortem 04-01-2008, 11:05 PM It does suck a lot having to wait. but on the plus side i would rather they take advantage of the hd than not use it and the games suffer in the long run. i went out and got the game came home, spent some time with my baby girl whilst installing and updating so the wait did not affect me.
I want to give you a badge of honor! I dont know why it takes so long to install, (I play PC, so Im used to installs) but use the hard drive for all it's worth, dammit!
It will be better in the long run for the games.

we are having a debate. you just have to get used to emophia... that's just the way she is. i'm sure she's called me an idiot at one point. :p
as far as my response to you not having relevance, i don't think i agree with you. i think i responded to a question you asked, unless the question was meant to be rhetorical and i was supposed to ignore it. still, nobody here's upset (unless you are). i don't think i need to be a hard ass to moderate. i definitely have no problem taking action when i feel it's necessary. on that note, if you have issues with my moderating, perhaps it would be best to make mention of that via a PM, rather than on the open board, that is if you truly wish to avoid all childishness.
Emophia 04-02-2008, 10:56 AM FFS, Emophia above even referred to me as 'a moron'.
I called you a moron, because you automatically assumed someone was a fanboy for saying something that wasn't fanboyish, which was a pretty moronic thing to do.
Look, I have nothing against you in the slightest, just don't make bad assumptions in teh future ok?
Remember, to assume makes an ass out of u and me.
You are far and away the most stupid person on this forum. You show up just to be a PS3 fangirl wherever there is a debate on any topic. The point that the Morganator was saying was totally valid, and you just came on to criticise HIS opinion.
You're not really one to speak of anybody's intelligence level when you make yourself look like a complete Jackass in your first few sentences.
A) I'm not a girl, nor have I ever said I was on here. Everybody assumes I am for God knows what reason.
B) I'm not a fanboy in the least, I like PC gaming more then I think I'll ever like console gaming, I haven't even touched my PS3 in weeks because I'm too busy with playing Crysis and coping with the rest of my life.
That and I like the 360, I was really considering buying one, but I decided the PS3 was better for me, and in the end it was. But that doesn't mean I can't like teh 360 too can it? Or are you that close minded.
C) I wasn't criticizing his opinion, I was criticizing his lame assumptions. Huge difference.
You strike me as being someone who has always played on playstation consoles (and PC) and paid £450 for a PS3. You have clearly never played an Xbox 360 or are just pissed that you made the wrong choice and are trying to convince yourself otherwise.
More wrong crap.
A) I only payed £200 for my 60gig PS3 back in July.
B) My first console was a Sega Genesis, my second was a PSOne, my third was a Gamecube. Yeah, freaking playstation fanboy right there innit?
D) I play the 360 plenty, I'm not sure about you, but most people have friends you know.
And I like the console, but I don't like it enough to ignore it's cons and buy it at this point on time.
and finally:
E) I don't regret buying a PS3 any more or less then I regret buying any of the consoles I own. I don't regret buying it at all.
But why should I care what some low life thinks of me? Think what you want.
Then again I evidentially care enough to bother to respond. But that's the way I am, so what?
Emophia, I apologise for coming accross as being negative, but instead of merely attacking others, why don't you try and come up with some reasoned and intelligent points to back up whatever side of the debate that you believe in. Blind allegiance has never made for good discussion.
I don't care whether you come off as negative or not, as long as you're right, which you were not, not to any degree.
And I don't need to back up the PS3 on this issue, Sony screwed up, I'm not going to freaking sugarcoat it. I don't have teh game, nor do I ever plan on getting it, no matter what my friends say. So I really don't care.
But being the amazingly nice and apathetic guy that I am, I hold no grudges.
Anski 04-02-2008, 11:00 AM A) I'm not a girl, nor have I ever said I was on here. Everybody assumes I am for God knows what reason.
Probably your avatar and the avatar in your PS3tag, I guess.
I usually just assume everyone is male until proven different *shrug!*:lipssealed:
Emophia 04-02-2008, 11:09 AM My real PSN avatar wasn't available from PS3tags last time I checked.
I'll check know that I was reminded.
And that's a good rule for Internet people.
codinthepocket 04-02-2008, 11:39 AM A) I'm not a girl, nor have I ever said I was on here. Everybody assumes I am for God knows what reason.
 I don't know why people have assumed that. The thread for Bill Kaulitz would've made it clear unless you were trying to say you were... you know...
 It's still funny. Most people would have taken serious offence to that. It effectively means that whoever thought you were a girl would have talked to you and treated you like they would have treated a girl...
That sucks. Maybe there should be a gender icon by the person's name to show whether they were male of female or alien or neither or both or whatever they wanted... Got a laugh out of this whole thing...
Puddle 04-02-2008, 02:50 PM I apologise for the assumption of genda. In another thread you made comments that seemed as though you were intimating that you were a girl/woman etc. Officially embarrased and corrected. Emophia ends in an "a" which in the western world is more often than not used for a female name.
My girlfriend says that "Emo" is a goth but a bit more rocky and grungy. That makes sense.
Emophia 04-02-2008, 04:46 PM I'm not Emo though, just FYI, but people call me Emo for short over voice chat when they don;t know my real name. And I'm cool with that.
PopTrogdor 04-02-2008, 05:01 PM I apologise for the assumption of genda. lol, you dont know what an emo is? FYI it is a ****ing stupid idiot, usually male, wears skinny jeans that cut off the blood supply to their balls hence the girlish features and really girly hair (its long, but in a girl style, not the cool grunge style), and they cry about how crap their life is and make poems like "she came in my room, with a broken mirror, my life sucks, kill me" and then they cuts their wrists as they are so depressed about everything....
if you didnt know what an emo was, now you do, and if you didnt know i hated emos, now you do.
oh and i think its because of the subconcious recognition that the person in your avatar, is a woman, or at least looks like one, but i guessed you weren't a long time ago :P

Dude what happened to C?
Emophia 04-02-2008, 05:45 PM I decided one 'C' was enough, he's already such an attention whore as it is.
THE MORGANATOR 04-02-2008, 05:59 PM Ok, so we've identified the guys who are ok with the load times on GT prologue and other games. Are there any PS3 owners out there who think this is a bad idea?
Genuinely - I've never had to do it myself and I'm seriously curious about its implementation. After all, there's every chance the next 360 will follow the PS3 and go back to an internal hard drive.
Anski 04-02-2008, 06:07 PM I don't mind the install times, really. I can see where the "OMGWTFBBQ I WANNA PLAY NOW!!#!#@" people might have an issue with it, though.
This story, however, just seems to me like a bad set of coincidences. The game needing a patch, which you have to get online for, and the PS3 having a firmware update available, which is required before you take your PS3 online.
The game itself failing to install it's update... that I just don't know about, and not having an interest much in GT5P, I can't comment specifically on.
Hooded Vendetta 04-02-2008, 07:01 PM I decided one 'C' was enough, he's already such an attention whore as it is.WTF have you been smoking?
F*** it, I'll just accept your weird. Less troublesome.
Webby317 04-02-2008, 07:08 PM ha ha ha. i laughed so much when you told me that. i hate the installs on the ps3. Xbox is much better ;)
Emophia 04-03-2008, 02:53 PM Are there any PS3 owners out there who think this is a bad idea?
What's a bad Idea? Hard drive installs?
Depends, games obviously don't need it, just look at Uncharted, but as along as they're not unreasonable, i don't mind.
ha ha ha. i laughed so much when you told me that. i hate the installs on the ps3. Xbox is much better ;)
Loser.
Ala Douche 04-03-2008, 06:27 PM Loser.
why is that? he made a legitimate opinion, backed by facts that support it. not fanboyish or flame baiting at all.:lol::lol:

haha, yeh, not at all :P its all good :D
Dinosauria 04-03-2008, 09:04 PM I don't have any problems with loading a game onto the HDD especially if it makes it run better, however I'm a fairly busy guy and I buy lots of games so it usually takes me a while to finish a game so I tend to be playing a bunch of them at the same time this means my HDD would get filled up pretty fast. That kinda ruins the all in one entertainment selling point of the PS3 (I have a lot of MP3s on there too.) So I'd prefer if it was optional. Plus if you want to play a game again that you've completed in the past it'd be annoying to have to reinstall it just for a quick play.
An hour is a long time to wait to get to play your game, tho the chance of you or anyone else running into that set of circumstances again is probably pretty low.
The long system downloads really annoy me tho.
