View Full Version : New DLC Notification for "played games"

Let's say some awesome new DLC is released for a game that you haven't played for a while, but still own. How would you know that the DLC existed?

I think that there should be some sort of notification system in place for DLC and new releases. Whether it be via email or XBL private message, I would greatly appreciate being notified of such content.

The service could be expanded with settings such as "Notify me of new (full game, arcade game, maps, demo, movie, gamerpic, theme, etc.) content", or "Notify me of new content in ____ genre", or, the option I think most of us would choose: "Notify me of new content in games I've played".

I don't know if this idea has already been proposed, or if there's already a system in place, but I think that both MS and the gamers would greatly benefit from the service.

What do you guys think?

I think that this would be a good idea, except for the fact that Inside Xbox seems to have adressed a lot of this. So long as they continue to expand on the info they are giving us on there, then I think it should cover my bases. Plus I like turning on my 360 and having that glowing orange, saves you trawling the marketplace for content as much.

I know a lot of people who barely even notice the "Inside Xbox" button though. I know I don't pay much attention to it - maybe I should start checking it out.

The biggest draw to this idea for me is the fact that you can personalize what you're notified of. I want to know when new content comes out for one of the games I've played (including the less-popular games like Overlord) without having to check every single game in the Marketplace.

no, not at all, if I see DLC offered within 2 months of a games release then I know it was made pre-release.

I think he's talking about DLC a year after the game releases.

I agree with it, as long as you can customize which games you want to be notified for. I don't want notifications for Perfect Dark Zero gamerpics or Kameo skins.

It's a good idea but one of the strong points to live is the system is very small (memory wise) the more features they add and the more control you have over those features will bloat the system after awhile. IMO that would not make it worth it.

It is a good idea though, and I'd use it.

I'd love to have this system, and if I was able to select specific games only instead of a genre etc. that would be even better. :D

I check the market place and inside xbox almost every day because thats the only way Iu can ever find out if new content has been released.

I think this feature would be awesome . the idea of the live service letting you know about updates that apply to you personally would be pretty sweet. that way you get the info that you care about. It would be awesome if it were like the "Just For You" section of iTunes. I would love it hope someone at microsoft see's this.

That's the thing. How can we get MS to consider the idea? I have got to think that it appeals to both gamers and to the shareholders.

I've posted about it over on the xbox.com forums (Wishlist forum, specifically), but I'd be naive to think that anybody will ever see that.

for PS3 stuff, I use the Playstation Blog. It's really nice to be up to date on stuff straight from the people who work for Sony.

Other than that I usually get it by word of mouth through forums like this one.

Having something like that for the 360 would be nice because I don't know where to go to find DLC for 360 stuff other than word of mouth...

It sounds like a good idea, but I think it will be like the RSS on the PS3. I don't like that because of how many messages come up, and it just lurks in the corner. Plus, there is nothing of interest on the RSS...

Another good place to keep up on your DLC releases is to check out Major Nelsons blog. It can be found here: http://www.majornelson.com/
He posts just about everything that enters the marketplace. It may not be what your looking for, but anyway hope it helps
