View Full Version : Iron Man demo
Tinman 04-19-2008, 12:48 AM So I was playing it a bit before gamer night, and here's what it is. The Hulk ultimate destruction with the ability to fly. Yes, it's fun to fly and shoot, but the demo is the same thing for 10 minutes. Maybe less than that. Anyway, The animations are pretty well done and the graphics are pretty good. Judging by the demo I may rent the game.
animathias 04-19-2008, 01:20 AM You do the same thing in every game.. games are repetetive by their very nature. The key is, if you find doing said thing over and over again fun.
Then again, I don't really disagree with you. While I think I had more fun than you in the demo, it's not worth $60 of my money with such better games like GTA coming out. Looks like a solid rental for me.
Chexd 04-19-2008, 06:25 AM I was looking forward to this game and the demo was pretty bad in my opinion. I didn't really think the graphics were good (apart from Iron Man himself) and everything from the gameplay to the controls seemed unfinished.
I will rent though...especially after seeing the film.
Hollowcow 04-19-2008, 07:18 AM I felt the controls and auto aim were very sloppy. Its like being in a washing machine with a gun and you can't miss.
I am kinda disappointed.
Peace Bunny 04-19-2008, 07:22 AM The graphics of the ground are terrible, Iron Man himself is awesome though, as has been said. The controls are sloppy and flying doesn't feel right...Also, can we expect a decent game from something Movie-Based anyway? I think it could be fun for a day or two, certainly a rental
lazarus585 04-19-2008, 07:23 AM I liked it, but I liked Hulk: ultimate destruction too.
If you play around with the controls and sensitivity it handles alot better.
I think the demo gives everyone what they want out of the demo, action.
I don't think the entire game will be like that.
Spoofmaniac 04-19-2008, 01:05 PM I found it fun. Not like CoD4 fun but still fun. I liked the fact they got the same actor from the movie, to play the voice in the game. Grappling a rocket in mid air was cool, but difficult. Lots of things were under par of what I've come to expect from a game, but I still enjoyed it.
Also, he runs like 90 miles an hour. Even in a super suit his legs would hurt like hell.

I agree, when flying or walking the sensitivity of the controls was way to high. It was impossible to actually aim on the target but as you said you cant miss. All you do is fly to a area hold the hover button, face the enemy then mash the rocket button and repeat.
I realy think this demo would have been allot better if they had includes the first boss fight that they teased on at the end of the demo, If not adding length to the demo it would have most certainly added variety.
I say once you gotten burned out on GTA4 (would probably take years tho) and need something different its a solid rent.

Try it on the hardest difficulty. Hovering in front of 6 turrets firing directly at you while you whimsically hold down the Right Trigger is a fast way to get killed. I found when I played it on the hardest difficulty, I had to strategize how to take out the enemies and the rerouting of power through the suit. Switch to weapons to start shooting down the turrets, switch to thrusters and boost-fly towards a tank, grapple it and switch immediately back to weapons to fire at something else, etc.. The controls worked just fine in my opinion, I just think the original two difficulties are much to easy.

You had difficulties on the hard setting? I didn't have any trouble. It still felt really easy to fight everything. The only trouble I had was the grappling. I only managed to finish a grapple maneuver once. All the other times he would let go...

I didn't say I had any trouble :wink2:, it was still extremelly easy. But it felt much more balanced than the other difficulties.
Tinman 04-20-2008, 12:55 AM I didn't say I didn't have fun just blowing things to hell, I just hope to God this is more of an Iron Man tech demo. Like they placed the game's Iron Man, all polished and pretty, in tech demo environment just to show off A)how good he looks, and B) to show off the kind of things you'll do.

With the release two weeks away, I doubt that'll be the case.

No, as in the demo isn't part of what the game will be. It's a seperate environment used only to show off what Iron Man can do. How is that unlikely?

I just think that, being so close to release they would want to show of the game as it is, to really get the sales up.
Tech demos are usually released alot earlier.
But that's my opinion, you could be right, we'll find out next week.
the 6th degree 04-21-2008, 08:01 AM I'll put money on that being the finished product.
I couldn't stand the flying, going from twin analogue sticks to one just messed things up - did anyone else constantly fly into the floor everytime they started flying?
strika234 04-21-2008, 04:23 PM Theres a Demo out!!! :eek::eek::eek:
*runs to 360 and downloads demo*

only once. It's easy after like 5 minutes of flight only time.
DanceDance 04-21-2008, 07:35 PM I pretty much agree with everything that's been said. The flight controls were a little clunky, but I managed to get used to 'em eventually. My problem with the flying is that he goes so damn fast it's straight impossible to hit something with your repulsor ray without stopping. Also, if you were to play the whole game, you'd break a tendon in your finger from having to hold the left trigger half-way down to hover through the whole game.
Graphically, everyone pretty much hit it...Iron Man looks amazing and everything else looks average.
And the sad thing is, I'm still gonna buy the game, even though the demo was pretty underwhelming, because it comes with an exclusive Iron Man figure. So I have to buy it no matter what because I'm a collector...and a dork.

Cyberspectre 04-23-2008, 01:41 AM I liked the demo, the controls are tricky at first but when you get used to them their easy to use, graphics are good. The gameplay is...weird, hopefully they'll be more enemies that arn't machine gun towers, i'm looking forward to the film and the game is going to be fun, i'll buy it because i got payed yesterday but if you're not a fan i'd rent it
MightyMutt 04-23-2008, 02:37 AM A demo that manages to piss me off twice before its even started is not good.
First the game decides 'no thats enough time reading the buttons now - anything you haven't learnt by now you are going to have to make up' and then 'oh and you only have 9 minutes to do it in.'
Why have a timed demo? Why time limit the amount of fun I can have with the game? I don't understand. If thats the mission structure of the game then I'm out. Well maybe a rental - damn it! - another superhero movie tie-in joins the pile of mediocrity.
Peace Bunny 05-01-2008, 02:08 PM To be fair, considering it's a movie-based game, it's not all that bad. I was expecting it to be poop, but it seems...average...so in a way, they have over-achieved, with the demo at least
eskimopirate 05-01-2008, 08:58 PM I really liked it actually. I personally liked the flying contols and thought it felt really fluid and easy. I just didn't do the halfway hold thing, instead I just kept floating up and then fell back down
Ryobin 05-02-2008, 02:41 AM ill have plenty of time before i get my 360 back to decide if im going to try ironman or not depending on your guys reactions :).....................:|...........:(............ ......:'(
Rell3000 05-02-2008, 10:18 AM The demo was pretty bad.....just floating around shooting stuff.....I hope the full version has more variety

Just watching the trailer has put me off the game. It looked awful. Plus, I now have MGO to occupy me...
AtomicFlapjack 05-05-2008, 03:22 PM The movie was awesome, so I will probabally rent it...
Tinman 05-05-2008, 03:26 PM movie = win. I don't care what anyone says.
Funny story: A friend of mine went and saw this with her boyfriend and some other people she hangs with. She gives it 9/10. He gives it 6.5/10. He liked Step Up 2 more than this. And now she's going around calling him girlyman.

Well, that's good to hear.
I am looking forward to the film ever more so now.
I read a review saying it wasn't too good, but you've levelled the score.
The film looks good, but we go back to... Movie games!
EDIT: Tinman -
Freestyle 05-05-2008, 05:10 PM :undecided:....it's a rental for me.
Narkjoe36 05-05-2008, 06:44 PM Yeah, this demo was garbage. Movie was good though.

Who told you it wasn't a good film?!?!??!?
Freestyle 05-05-2008, 08:16 PM IGN TRASHED this game. They gave it a 3:eek:
Mallico 05-05-2008, 09:35 PM Oh, I had no idea this was out. I thought it looked decent, I guess I'll go try it tonight. Thanks for the heads up.
codinthepocket 05-06-2008, 03:14 PM Who told you it wasn't a good film?!?!??!?
A movie review in a magazine I read last weekend gave it two stars.
Apparently, other than Downey Jr., the film is poor... :undecided:
