What was the game that got you into gaming. It may have been the one to make you buy a console or the one that made it more then just something on the side, like the one that made gaming your hobby. Was it the first game you played?

For me it was sypro 1. I was young and I loved it, played it for years. It was nice and happy, started off easy for me but was increadibly long.

Mario/Duckhunt, I was always trying to get that god damn dogs approval and not have him mock me and scar my childhood. It didn't matter how many ducks i shot in a row whenever I missed THERE HE WAS just waiting to mock me DAMN HIM... Sorry, Also i loved the original Mario game simple and hours of jumping and stomping on the heads of mushroom things.

First game I ever played must have been either Pokemon Red or Goldeneye... I owned neither of them, but they inspired me to get a game boy colour and, eventually, an xbox.

Rogue Squadron was my first PC game, but Super Mario All Stars is what started me on my way.

I had always played games a little bit growing up. Like super mario world for the SNES but what really pulled me in the hardcore class was Quake 3 arena. I think I was a whole 9-10 years old and my older brother and I would play that for hours before and after school.

Although i hate to admit it, the first step for me was Runescape...That then led to a year and a half of non stop WoW.

Super Mario Bros. on the Game Boy. I loved the game.
And then I went off gaming a little bit because I didn't own any consoles.

But then... the PS1 arrived. And I got an N64. And I began my life as a gamer. When I slotted Zelda: Majora's Mask into the N64 and put the RumblePak in my controller, I has become a gamer, and there was no going back. Like I would want to, though. :lol:

Home gaming: Initially an Atari 2600 and Space Invaders. Many an evening was spent passing the controller around among the family members.
During high school and first year or so of college I sort of took a break from gaming, having found other interests and demands on my time. Then I visited a bud, and he introduced me to Shining Force on the Sega Genesis. I was back in.

There actually used to be two or three good arcades in my hometown, near the grocery store and record store. Dropping quarters in Moon Patrol, Kangaroo, Amidar, and of course the classics like the various Donkey Kongs and Pac Mans, was painfully addictive. One time I got the Red Token out of the token machine. It was like winning the lottery.

The Faerytale Adventure for the Amiga 500 (released in 1986). The game was absolutely amazing in it's day with graphics better than the Genesis (in 1986 remember,) a whole world to explore (literally,) and completely open ended gameplay.

I would like to say Space Invaders, but the game that really took me over the top was defender. I just loved the space shooting thing, and from what I remember the farther I got the harder it got and it was great.

I was around... 8 or so My mom and dad bought me a Game Gear for my First Holy Commuian (I can't spell it) Sonic the Hedgehog was my first game EVER then when we bought our First computer that year (Dad's always been a sucker for Technology) we had the entire Mega Drive emulated onto it and it all went downhill from there

Solaris on the Atari 2600 or Urogue on my Dad's unix workstation, I think the first game with proper graphics and sound that I played was either Dune 2 or Indiana Jones and the last Crusade on the pc

My starter would have to be Super Mario Brothers, but the game that really "hooked" me and kept me playing was a combination of two games, both on the NES: Super Mario Bros. 3 and - oddly enough - Pinball. I'd play those two for hours on end, start it over countless times, and come back for more the next day.

I played a lot of games when I was a kid, from Mario to DOOM(on the PC). What really "sucked" me in was NBA Hangtime and 1080 snowboarding on the N64. I still play those games now-a-days when the gaming dry spells hit.

For me it was Red Barron (the 2D version in CGA, not the 3D version, 3D didn't exist then, 8 colors did not either)
Then, I got my computer, and discovered Dune 2, 1992, I was 9, my god, RTS will always be my favorite genre.

I remember seeing the ads for Wing Commander in an old Compute magazine and going 'wow.' :) I played waaaay too much of the Wing Commander series, Privateer especially..

That having been said, I think some of the first games that really sucked me in were Apple II games. I seem to recall putting a fair amount of time into an old text adventure game where you were on a deadline to solve a murder. Everywhere you went took time away from the clock, and you had to get enough evidence before time ran out to make it stick on whomever you accused. I don't remember much more, except that it involved a computer chip design..

But the first game that made me stay up all night? Star Control II.

Donkey Kong Jr. all the way back on the CollecoVision. I just played, and played and played that game! I was addicted to it!

Age of Empires 2. Best online play ever, i'd still be playing it now if they'd kept it going.

Breakout for one of the first Apple systems. It came with it. Then I got into Smash Bros. and Donkey Kong on the N64.

Oh Jeez here we go... it was Attic Attak on the 48K Spectrum... sad but true.. taht and pacman on the 2600..

I'm a literature junkie and FFIII (VI) made me realize that games had huge potential to be AMAZING story telling devices.

The game(s) that really sucked me into gaming were probably any spyro that came out for the ps1 and crash bandacoot 1 and 3. I loved these games so much on the ps1, it was the reason i got a ps2 not an xbox, and i haven't regreted the choice since (well, maybe a little) :tongue:

My first game was Bugs Life for the Ps1 Based on the movie. I absoultley loved the game when I was four. Then I got hooked on Mario and the Six Golden Coins.

The original Legend of Zelda and Metroid on the NES. I've played other games on the Atari 2400 but I remember being 4 or 5 and just playing Zelda for hours on end. Punch Out! also was one I played a lot along with Bomberman.

Donkey Kong Country and all the Crash Bandicoot games, specifically Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. I would go to my friend's house everyday becuase he had it and I didn't, and play it for hours. Goldeneye was a pretty big contributor too. I remember how all the kids in our neighborhood would go to this one kid's garage and we would play Goldeneye for hours and hours. Good times.

For me, it was Star Wars Dark Forces II on the PC. A demo of the game had been installed on my dad's Windows 98 computer and I shortly discovered it shuffling through the start menu. I soon bought it and simply had a blast with it.

Dark Forces II was the first game, for me, that immersed me in a virtual world. Though it may be lacking by today's standards, it was incredible at the time to me.

I think the first game I can recall clearly was Dragon's Lair in the arcade at my local mall: Alladin's Castle in Casper, Wyoming, but we may have gotten our 2600 before that (Yes, I'm one of those older types)

BTW, to gigermunit, RCR was the king of the NES. Well other than the original Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy, oh and Magic of Scheherazade, and... Screw it, bring back 8-bit.

When I was just a small lad my dad bought me an N64 for Christmas. The first games I had for it were Diddy Kong Racing, and Starfox 64, two great classics. I've been hooked ever since and I love all sorts of games! Even the classics!

My dad came home one day with a Colecovision. Despite never owning an Atari I played all the current arcade games at the time when I was 5 years old at home on that Colecovision. Mouse Trap, Frogger, Popeye, Carnival, Smurfs, Donkey Kong and DK Junior, Burgertime, Q Bert. But above all my favorite had to be Venture (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10301). I loved that system.

Hmmm, well I have been playing since Atari 2600 as a young lad. Some stand out memories include Super Mario Bros 2 one Christmas, getting a SNES and playing SFII on a console, playing too much MK2/MK3 in the arcades ... but probably the big crossover moments were either of the three following:

- Seeing the world ACTUALLY get destroyed in FFIII/FFVI
- Getting freaked the F out by those dogs in the beginning of RE1
- Playing, beating, and getting all the stars in Mario 64

It had to be Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 that first sucked me in. What sucked me into 3D gaming was probably Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot. Good stuff.

I actually chose the Playstation over the N64 based on a 15-minute session with the original Crash Bandicoot at Toys R Us. Best decision I ever made. Though, I did eventually get a N64 as well.

My first game console was the Atari 2600, but it really wasn't "mine" as my parents bought it more to feed their Pac Man fever addiction.:grin:

I used to have Toy Story for the Genesis. I could never get past that Claw level at Pizza Planet.

Mercenaries for PS2 definetely, that was a fantastic game with a good storyline

It was one of the games that made me proud to own a PS2. My first game I bought for the system too. When I was like 8 maybe? Or 10? I got the PS2 for my birthday and 20 bucks. It was a Greatest Hit by then, so i got it, and loved it. I broke out my dad's SNES and started real gaming.

The game that sucked me in was...... Luigis mansion.
But i did have alot of handheld games before that, but luigis mansions was the first one i was actually excited about completeing.... i whould re-play it but since I've heard people hate it im worried it will destroy a small part of my childhood. Sigh... i guess I whould rather it remain a classic in my eyes then face up to the truth.

Really, strangely enough, it was Final Fantasy that really made me take interest into games. I always loved the series and from that obsession, I went to MGS as it was recommended to me by a friend. After casually gaming on the PS2, I bought my Xbox and got into Halo 2, in a real heavy way.

It all started with Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt for me.

The crash Bandicoot games for the playstation two were excellent. The game ive probably put the most time into is world of warcraft prior to quiting it. However by far my favourite game series is the golden sun games. :thumbsup:

The first game I remember playing was Gold Rush. My father had a Mac at work and every once in a while he would bring it home and let me play on it. I must have been about 7 or 8, but I loved it. I had to remember the MS DOS code to run it. Once we got our own computer at home, it was Commander Keen and Duke Nukem.

I played barnstormers on atari, but it was definately Mario that was my first true love. My parents of course wouldn't buy me a console of my own, because it was for boys, but my A-hole boy cousins had one & of course wouldn't let me play. So I had to play after everyone was asleep. Which meant I had to keep the sound down. Which meant I was stuck on the 8th castle for oh, I don't know, months? & finally I was watching them play "who can beat the whole game fastest" & they had the sound up. Which was when I realized that there was a sound indicating whether or not you had ran the right way. Yeah I beat it that night. Yeah I was happy.

Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) was my first love. Nobody can stop LT on the wing.

But my first video game blister was from the original Mortal Kombat for Genesis. I think that's when I knew life would never be the same.

I played lots of games on my old Amstrad years ago but the game that really got me addicted was actually Kings Quest VI on PC. That was the one that changed everything for me.

I remember being blown away by the graphics in the introduction, I literally couldn't believe how incredible they were. However, if you look at them now they are complete pants!

Personally for me its the first 2 tekens and the first 2 Crash Bandicoot games on the ps1

Star Fox 64 Bitches!!!

Geez...that was so long ago. Pole Position on the Atari, I guess? I'd watched my dad play King's Quest on the computer, but the text entry system was a little over my head at the time. But then we got an Atari 2600 for Christmas, with Pole Position boxed in, and I was hooked for life.

The first game I spent hours upon hours playing with my dad would have been Haunted House. The first one I played by myself was Laser Blast. Both for the Atari 2600.

I spent a 6 hour marathon playing Laser blast. The stupid thing never ends. It took me a while to realize my points weren't going up any more. I haven't touched it since, but the fond memories are all still there.

Even though I'm a ps3 owner....the game that really got me into gaming was halo (the first one). Oh actually before that it was Star Wars Battlefront (again the first one).

i don't know gaming is my hobby but it was on the side for a long time i am sad to say that gaming was not my number one hobby till the next gen console so mabey cod4 bioshock it was a little before them that i was into gaming and its media and really understanding everything

Either Spiro the Dragon for PS (awesome game), GoldenEye on N64, or all those Pokemon games i played on my gameboy color. Those were my childhood gaming memories. Oh yeah, and watching my dad play Quake/Doom/Half-Life when i was little.

For me, after a few years of gaming on my Atari 800XL and Amstrad CPC, the first real "goodbye life" game was Elite on my Atari ST. Whilst at school during the day I would be planning my trading strategies and contemplating the many totally unexpected events that had occurred, before losing myself in the infinite nothingness of space when got home.

I should have got out more then. Nothing changes....

For me it was probably Oregon Trail in the schools computer lab, plus Chooper Command, Jungle Hunt, Dig Dug, and then Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt propelled it to unstoppable proportions.

The first couple of games I played were Wolfenstein 3D, and Might & Magic IV/V. Those are the ones I remember spending much of my free time playing.

Pokemon blue

I'd say Pokemon Blue (the Game Boy Color- which messed up my spelling of colour for years afterwards (thanks US!)) and the Sonic games on the Mega Drive. They were awesome.

Crash bandicoot on the PS1. I played that game for hours upon hours

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Mega Drive. Aw, i loved this Game.

Oh, and of course Golden Axe.

For PC, it was Elder Scrolls IV after a long absence from PC gaming and for console it was FFVII.

Hmm this is a TOUGH one. I'm prolly gonna have to say probably the old Twisted Metal games on the PS1. Like the first two ones. Cool Boarders 2 for the PS1. And also Crash Bandicoot too for the PS1. Those probably had the biggest role. Beside the fact, my big brother had the biggest influence on me starting to game. Thank God for cool older brothers! Haha.

The very first legend of zelda. on nes. I think i got that for my 4th or 5th birthday. And yeah, pretty much ever since I've loved playing video games. I mean I'd played other ones before on our atari (i can't remember the number I was like 3) I specifically remember the pac man rip off we had called like K-c's crazy chase or something like that. And I remember playing like mario and duckhunt before zelda... But for me zelda is what did it. I loved looking all over and exploring for things. And back then fighting the moblins was scary. Good times. Good freaking times...

Mario Kart 64. still in m top ten

I think I was sucked in by Smackdown 2: Know Your Rule for the PS1. There was something about beating the snot out of somebody that got me addicted.
