View Full Version : Ratchet and Clank vs Jak.
kingofnoland 05-06-2008, 12:56 PM So which was your favourite?
To me they always seemed to be competing behind a false friendship.
kinda like spyro and crash.
Posted it here as we can only really compare the ps2 games...
codinthepocket 05-06-2008, 02:23 PM Ratchet and Clank ftw.
Much better in my opinion.
The first one was in a class of its own for the PS2. And the new one for the PS3 is a solid game too.
Mallico 05-07-2008, 01:47 AM I liked Ratchet and Clank more, they're both great games though. I recently picked up Jak 3 for $10 at a movie store.
kdawg12 05-07-2008, 02:08 AM ratchet and clank all the way i have play the other jak games and i really enjoyed ratchet and clank alot more yeah they weren't the hardest games out there but very entertaining
Joe P 05-08-2008, 07:09 PM Yeah I'm onboard with Ratchet and Clank too. Jak's fun but the gameplay is really simple and once you figure out how to play the controls never progress or change. With R&C there's always new mods to try out on your guns. There's also the re-playability (spelling?) factor and the multiplayer that make Ratchet and Clank the kind of game that gives you a tougher decision to turn in for some cash because you always feel like there's something you missed
AcesHigh4895 05-08-2008, 07:11 PM I'm the only one to vote for Jak? Seriously?!?
Xenuftw 05-08-2008, 07:23 PM Jak gets my vote. Storyline is better, much nicer character depth and everything much more well rounded. Rachet and clank is very simplicstic in design, the childish shooter. The new one wasn't a challenge but i feel that the Jak hgames are a lot more interesting.
I also love the use of eco as an elemental lifeforce, and how in jka 2 and 3 you explore more into the regions of dark and light eco. Jak ftw. And I'm yet to see a Ratchet game come close to the disgn that was put in by the Jak team, when it came to Haven city there was nothing that could be designed so smoothly with no loading screens. It is truly a work of art.
AcesHigh4895 05-08-2008, 07:28 PM Thank you!
RaiseHavok 05-08-2008, 07:57 PM Ratchet and Clank for me. The shooting/platforming action is amazing, but the dialogue is also well done.
nick10234 05-12-2008, 08:35 PM i have all of them on the PS2, except size matters. I like both but i have played Jak 3 the most out all of them
Awesomus 05-13-2008, 05:37 PM Ratchet and clank all the way! I owned both series (all like 8 of them!) but liked ratchet and clank more.
LittleTom 05-15-2008, 01:52 AM Ratchet and Clank for sure.
PopTrogdor 05-15-2008, 07:42 AM its Jak the whole way. I wished the new game would be properly announced and released! Jak 2 and 3 were awesome as small kid like sandbox games where you could steal cars and shoot, so it beats ratchet, plus i love daxter! Especially the PSP game, so ****ing good
Xenuftw 05-15-2008, 09:41 AM PopTrogdor it's nice to see someone else with sense.
The Jak system evolved hugely over the 3 games, it had an entire living city! No loading time, awesome graphics, it blew ratchet and clank out of the water.
AcesHigh4895 05-18-2008, 10:54 AM Agreed. What's with all the Jak hate around here?
Xenuftw 05-18-2008, 01:00 PM Agreed. What's with all the Jak hate around here?
I think it's more to do with Ratchet love than Jak hate. A lot of my friends have never heard of Jak but they know and love Ratchet.
The Ratchet games where always more bold in there marketing, they had nice graphics and got a good head start on the Jak games. The first Jak game didn't grab me anywhere near as much as the first Ratchet, but Ratchet is kinda repetative.
In Jak 2 they redesigned the entire world and gave it a GTA feel. Only trouble is that kinda puts them into comparison with the real gta and thats never a smart move for a game whos target audience is well younger.
Not to mention that Jak games actually gave advertisement to Ratchet and Clank (In haven city there was a poster of them and i got a Ratchet picture with my game). And i didn't see the favor returned.
But, i truly think when you weight up game play, area, loading time, graphics, voices, characters and everything else Jak is a much greater game. It just seems that some of its best points are overlooked by a lot of members love for Ratchet.
Don't get me wrong, i own ever Ratchet game and have completed them all, hell i even did the first Ratchet about 9 times in one file but i still feel that the Jak games are better.
Finch 05-18-2008, 01:38 PM Ratchet and Clank by far! Best game franchise out, every game is solid. Maybe only second to Mario or Banjo Kazooie in platformers.
DarkDragon9906 05-18-2008, 02:59 PM Ratchet and Clank only because of the godly weapons. I love the humour, platforiming was great and (again ) the weapons. Modding and getting new ones, leveling them up to do so much damage was the most fun I had From Ratchet: TOD. Also I thought the storyline was pretty good with the cliffhanger ending, Makes me really want TOD 2.
* TOD = Tools Of Destruction
greeneyedpsyko 05-18-2008, 04:47 PM I chose ratchet and clank because i have more of the games... i have all of them though (didn't count the psp games) and i like em both equally
daCooksta 05-25-2008, 02:05 AM I went for Ratchet, because I loved Size Matters, which was the only game I've played. I've played Jak, and couldn't really get into it. I wish i could say that I just don't like platformers, but I love Mario Galaxy (Who doesn't?) and that is definitly a platformer. (I love all mario games, actually. I can't seem not to.)
Allizelif 05-28-2008, 04:05 PM I prefer Ratchet and Clank, the original anyway even if the sequels went downhill. the same can be said of Jak though, the sequels for that were even worse than the Ratchet Sequels.
FakePlasticTree 05-28-2008, 04:13 PM A while back I picked up the first three R&C games and all three Jak games for a total of like $25. I played through the R&C games, but I could only get through 1.5 Jak games. I just don't like the Jak series. I don't like the stories, I don't like the characters, and I especially don't like the vehicle missions. Hell I even played through Daxter on the PSP (it came with the PSP) and I disliked pretty much everything about it.
So yeah, I'm all about the Ratchet series.
balaamsafe 05-28-2008, 05:14 PM Jak all the way
Ratchet and Clank are good games, but they did practicaly nothing to improve since the first apart from nicer graphics and bigger guns
jak added free roam, awesome veichles, guns (they were not in the first game), masive graphical improvments on the same system, better plotlines, imo just as hillarious dialogue and characters and loads more
plus daxter on psp was sick, wheras secret agent clank looks underwheling
R&C for me as well, though I'd like to have had more hands-on time with Jak. Just didn't appeal to me as much, I guess... Insomniac is a great company for platform games, so I guess I prefer them overall for the genre. Good company making good content on a consistent basis.
eskimopirate 06-12-2008, 02:07 PM I love Jak but Ratchet is so much better I don't even have to think about it. Sure Jak is a bigger game, but IMO Ratchet is just more fun.
Also, the people who make Ratchet (Insomniac) are good friends with Naughty Dog(Jak),
or so they say on their podcast.
randomperson 06-12-2008, 11:14 PM Rachet and Clank!
spate 06-14-2008, 10:35 AM I've only ever played Ratchet & Clank Future, so I'm probably not a good one to talk, but.. since I've only got an 80gig PS3, I'm probably not going to go back and play either of these series due to the reported slow-down issues. In particular, there are backward compatibility slowdown warnings for the later games in the R&C series, as well as a couple in the J&D series. No idea how debilitating these slow-downs are, but.. not a great motivator either.
consolerpgdude 06-14-2008, 06:34 PM I guess its not fair since i've played all of the and beat all of the Ratchet and Clanks on the big consoles except the new one for PS3 since I don't have one.
Never played Jak and Daxter.
dtcarson 06-14-2008, 09:05 PM Ratchet and Clank for me. I liked the somewhat linear direction (as in, I always knew the general directions i needed to go in), and it seemed more action-oriented to me. I think R&C, Going Commando and Up your Arsenal together make one of the best game trilogies I've ever played.
