View Full Version : TimeShift Demo?! Again?
Hotcooler 09-02-2007, 03:22 PM Pretty good concept. Realization is much better than 1.5 years before (First demo). Good graphics, interesting gameplay, no thoughts about plot... and what the heck happened there.. But works for me.
Any thoughts guys?
Duncor 09-02-2007, 03:26 PM I was not sure how all the time stuff would work before I tried it but it seems like it will be a solid game
I was downloading the demo but my friend said it sucked so I saved myself a few minutes of what he thought wasnt good gameplay.
Lono_Lives 09-03-2007, 03:44 AM I actually liked the demo, reminded me of a cross between Half-Life II and Fear. I had a hard time looking past all the stuff they ripped off from those games like:
Harsh lighting and slo mo from fear
Ai sounded like the ai baddies in fear
crossbow from HL2
Dude talking was like HL2
Fighting for a "resistance" like HL2
Guns in general were like HL2
Anyone else play it? agree or disagree with me?
Hotcooler 09-03-2007, 07:37 AM Agree - there's some similar things. But not only slo-mo. How about stop and rewind? It's kinda cool. :D
Spudnik 09-03-2007, 01:32 PM I persoanally enjoyed it but I don't don't think it is worth 60 from me with so many other games coming out. Also Lono I wasn't old enough to enjoy HL2 when it first came out so I can't wait for orange box. Who else plans to buy orange box?
I'm getting it mostly for the MP games.
Duffman X18 09-03-2007, 02:05 PM I'm getting it mostly for the MP games.
That's what I'll be going for if the single player sucks (my 360's in repairs right now, so I have no way of playing the demo) From what I've heard about the multiplayer it should be fun.
Actually I was refering to the orange box. But yeah the timeshift MP looks cool.
Lono_Lives 09-03-2007, 05:58 PM Well then Spudnik, you're in for a treat. It is easily one of, if not the best, FPS of all time, plus you get ep 1 and ep 2, plus team fortress and portal. Worth way more than 60 bucks for you.. Enjoy!
Chexd 09-08-2007, 08:20 PM yeah the demo is a complete rebuild yeah?
I quite liked it, I just felt the enviroment was a tad linear and the guns didnt have any power (sound and vibration wise).
On the plus side the time thingy is cool as is the grenade explosions
Although opening scene Haze or MGS4 anyone?

Oh no sorry man I was talking about timeshift. Orange box is like #2 on my to buy list right now. especially since I never got the chance to play half life 2.
Night Phyre 09-09-2007, 05:00 AM Wait... a shooter set in a dreary, dystopian future? Que paradigm shift in 5... 4...
Seriously, though, the time effects were a gimmick at best. Even in the demo, there's a guy who gets executed in a building, and you CAN'T save him with your time powers. Why exactly are we giving our defenders of the earth time-suits if they can't even use them properly?

thats funny, cause I tried the same thing....couldn't save him.
Otacon91 09-09-2007, 11:44 PM Ok here is the important part....Is Dennis Quaid still it it? If he is, I'm sold.
Spudnik 09-10-2007, 12:22 AM I tried to save him too! That part kind of pissed me off as well. I can't see how it will work in multiplayer.
Hotcooler 09-14-2007, 09:37 AM Check this out! Compare the old demo of timeshift (Jan 2006) and the new one (Sep 2007). The whole new game!

I finally got a chance to play it and I like it. I agree, it is like Half Life 2, but in a good way. Plus it's kind of rewarding when you figure out how to get past a puzzle with your time powers.
Spudnik 09-15-2007, 03:01 AM Yeha i enjoyed that to. They seemed to work them into the game pretty well in terms of not making it feel just like an add on.
Bauer22 09-16-2007, 05:52 PM Yeah I liked it and hope to buy it. Nothings better then pausing time and unloading your shotgun into an enemy.
Altered_Weapon 09-20-2007, 01:37 AM I liked the old demo, the controls needed help but it was fun. The new look and feel of play to the game is a lot better. I think Dennis Quaid is in the game and Michael Ironside, but I can't find research to back it up.
SpiralGray 09-21-2007, 10:45 AM I tried the demo. Thought it was interesting until I got to the part where the giant thing (never did get a good look at it) was blasting away with all guns. Tried several times to figure out how to get past it. Never succeeded. Figured if I can't even get through the demo I probably won't be able to figure out the game.
Canuck 09-21-2007, 05:02 PM How did you not get through it? It's pretty damned straightforward.
I liked some of the things you can do, like steal the guy's gun from his hands while pausing time, then pulling off a headshot with the shotgun-pistol after you've beat him down to his knees. A very cool combo sometimes.
Being able to rewind time, run up to the enemies back in cover and pull off headshots then play it and watch them both just fall down lifelessly is also pretty sweet... and rewinding time to regain your cover, or sneak past a couple of guys when they see you.
I think it's worth a rent.

Apparently not.
