Prince of Persia the movie. We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but at least it’s Jerry Bruckheimer making it and not Uwe Boll. The film is still a long ways off, but at least we now know who is going to play “Mr. I messed with time and bad sh*t happened.”

Check out all the details after the jump!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Gyllenhaal will play everyones favorite acrobatic, dual scimitar wielding Prince. From Donnie Darko, to Brokeback Mountain, to Jarhead to…Prince of Persia? Don’t get me wrong, I think Gyllenhaal is a great actor, but an action star? I just can’t see it. I’m sure he is physically fit, but a sword fighting, acrobatic Prince? Whatever, as long it the role doesn’t go to Orlando Bloom, I’m happy.

$10 says this movie will suck, just like every other game-to-movie adaptation before it.

I'd like ta take that bet, but I fear I'd just be giving my money away!

I like Jake as an actor but there had better be a damn good writer to make this movie work.

well it is definitely a plus having him in the film - a very good actor.

I can see the movie studio wanting this franchise to be the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" and I am sure they will throw lots of cash at it (and hopefully talent).

You know, the more I think about it, the more suprised I am that they'd pick Gyllenhaal.

I would've figured they go with that Sayid guy from Lost or somethin' predictable like that! :undecided:

I suppose it might be a good sign that they're thinkin' outside the box!!

I can see this movie sucking hard.

It is showing far more promise than a lot of game to movie adaptations.

Brukheimer + Gyllenhall definitely hint towards a serious production even if it will inevitably stray from the game a bit.

Im also keeping my eye on the next Mark Whallberg film - Max Payne. Hopefully that will be half decent too. Just remember to judge them as films in their own right and not 90min game cutscenes. (See HITMAN)

^ Max Payne will be killer. I think Mark Wahlberg fits that role perfectly.

I hope Prince of Persia will be good. If nothing else it should be worth at least a trip to the theater, if not a purchase.

I'm hoping they don't turn PoP into another time-bending navel gazer like Donnie Darko. Don't get me wrong, I liked Darko, but really, I don't want to see it again with different costumes. The action needs to be a major part of the movie, or it's gonna tank.
