So, I was watching Leno when he mentioned GTA IV and held up a copy of it for the PS3. This makes me wonder. Would someone who owners both a 360 and PS3 go to the store and buy the PS3 version just because it was on Jay Leno? Would any of you buy a game because of something like that?

If it was being recommended that was the better system for the game then yes it might influence me. Just being held up and shown would not influence me.

I can however imagine many people it would influence to buy either that version of the game or the system and the game if they are trying to decide on a system. I'm not thinking of people who already game but parents who are buying for their kids but have no clue what they actually want. Lets face it, we've all been there right? (Getting bad games as gifts i mean ;))

nope... 3 things influence this.... 1) controller (which seems best for said game) 2) stability (I dont want it to crash), and 3) game version (if the company gimps a version, clearly Im not taking it)

I don't think a celebrity getting it for one system or the other would really influence if I got it, but I could see that if someone worshipped that celebrity that it might change his/her mind.

I'd say celebrity endorsement is extremely important in gaming, just as in any other business venture. Take Driver 3 for example, the game was shocking, they spent half the gaming budget on getting famous actors to do the voice acting, but it sold like hot cakes. I mean, how many times has Miyamoto been whored out to promote the latest Nintendo game, gaming is as guilty as anyone.

If the game was an exclusive, and incredibly incredibly great. I may buy the console for it, if it was an handheld.

So no I guess I wouldn't usually.

Last gen I used my Xbox for my multiplatform games simply because they ran better.

If you want to see what I mean rent Simpsons Hit and Run or Psychonauts on PS2 and Xbox. Xbox runs as smooth as butter but PS2 has issues with framerate.

This gen if I get a PS3 the 360 will remain as my primary console simply because I prefer the controller on the 360. PS3 controller is too small and the L2/R2 buttons feel like marshmallows.

If I know its coming to PC thats what I will wait for, especially for GTA series, since they get most of the bugs out by release

I would base my choices on the pro's and con's of the title for each system - e.g. the amount of online friends I have for the 360 or graphics quality on the PS3.

Leno can kiss my a$$.

I'd buy a game for the PS3 because I hardly ever get the chance to play my 360...
From September, though, the 360 is all mine, and I enjoy playing games more on my 360 than my PS3.

I reckon that a reason why people buy games for the 360 over PS3 is acheivements...
Some people are moderate to crazy acheivement whores, who want the 1000 points...

Scarilidge! Sony designed the perfect controller, no need to improve it in 14 years!

Seriously though, you need to remember the members of this forum are not indicative of general gaming public. Over 200 million people in the us and you get a significant bump in sales for small things like this. We as "gamers" are doing it as a hobby and therefore put more thought into out purchases.
