View Full Version : Sid Meier's: Civilization Revolution
Amathev 05-24-2008, 04:24 PM I haven't really seen much about this game on here, but since I'm a fan of the Civilization series, lets have a talk, shall we?
I was surprised to see that it's getting released pretty soon, I thought it still was months away.
I might not have the money to pick it up next month, but if I do I'd definitely like to play against someone from SG.
Also, does anyone know when the demo is coming out to the 360 marketplace?
zbiggie 05-24-2008, 04:48 PM for a second I thought I missed a new version of the game coming out, I remember something about this ds version, personally I'm not going to get it just because it seems like it will be watered down
Delta 05-24-2008, 05:15 PM The turn system is what killed the fun.

you did miss a new version of the game coming out. Its on Xbox though. I have a bit of a complex about it, I dopnt know if I should buy it or wait to see if they are making a PC version. It will be a bit wierd to have no mouse/keyboard support. Its out in 13 days here in Europe!
I cant wait for it. I'm a total geek for Civilization
Delta 05-24-2008, 05:28 PM You don't have to spend thousands on a PC, buy all the parts seperately and put it all together; make sure to buy really good parts. It'll end up costing much less. An alienware value computer at much less a price.

They've announced a Civilization V, but I don't think Civilization Revolution is coming to the PC.
The turn system is what killed the fun.
Not really, and with the right options on everyone can make their turns at the same time, and then go to the next turn when everyone's ready.
Diortem 05-25-2008, 08:25 AM this is one of the types of game the DS SHOULD have if you ask me.

Yea that would be cool but im not sure if the DS is powerful enough. Im getting this, its civilization i love civilization...
Has anyone ever played alpha centauri? im actually just replaying that. The game was so good (enjoyed it more than any civilization) they should redo it.

The DS version will have its "own" graphics.

thats in my sig, not the actual post. I did have to spend £2,000 on my PC ~$3,500, but alot of that was so that I could run software like AutoCAD/XNA and so on.

I don't think it would make too much of a difference to me if the graphics were lower on this game, I am actually thinking about getting a DS for this game, I want it everywhere!
Delta 05-25-2008, 04:18 PM Well, I do suppose that it is every person's opinion about the turn system.
slik1000 06-05-2008, 05:17 PM Woot, just an update on this thread. The Demo is out today, and in the EU the game is released tomorrow [I think]. I dont have the money for it 'till monday but I cant wait
Shane86 06-05-2008, 05:23 PM The Demo is basically a more casual version of the pc games.
slik1000 06-06-2008, 08:39 AM Hmm, yeah now that I have played it for a little while longer...
...its not that great. Dont think I am gonna buy it, or at least not on launch date.
PopTrogdor 06-06-2008, 06:04 PM played the ps3 demo, was fun, would consider getting it if it wasnt a full price game, say like gt5 prologue price

I'm a bit of a Civ fan myself. Clocked a fair few hours on Civ 3...
I'm gonna download the demo and give it a go. I like the turn-based style of the game. I think it works really well...
I liked to experiment a lot with the landscape sizes and shapes.
I used to do a trial game, where I'd have a really small, single island, with two colonies, and see who wins.
It was a lot of fun walking around in their territory and getting angry messages, then ignoring them angrily and waiting for the "consequences". I started a lot of wars... Good times...
Shane86 06-06-2008, 06:12 PM Yeah I much prefer the pc version of civ4, and that guy that keeps popping up talking gobbledy-gook is very annoying.
slik1000 06-06-2008, 06:14 PM I dunno now. Changed my mind a bit now that the demo is out. I might wait for a price drop before I get it.
Jacob816 06-06-2008, 08:26 PM I just play a bit of the demo, but had to power off my system before I got up and smacked that freakin' adviser guy. Why the hell are all the people in the game speaking some form of Simish? I can understand Fraxis made other elements of the game less serious and more casual, but why in the hell did they make the guys sound like a retarded jester with kleenex in his mouth?! This seemingly small issue has singlehandedly made me change my mind about the game.
slik1000 06-07-2008, 03:16 AM SIMISH!! that is where I have heard that BS language before. That was one of the reasons I dont like it too. A constant barrage of "gnya gyu gnagnyua" just pisses me off, if anyone knows how to turn it off, I would probably buy it.
I have trouble believing that this is the game that sid mier has always wanted to build. Civ IV was freakin awesome.
Amathev 06-07-2008, 03:41 AM Yeah I much prefer the pc version of civ4, and that guy that keeps popping up talking gobbledy-gook is very annoying.
You can turn that off.
slik1000 06-07-2008, 03:49 AM You can turn that off.
How, how do I do that?
Amathev 06-07-2008, 03:57 AM Well, I was thinking you were talking about the advisor guy, but I realise now you could be talking about anyone.
The advisor guy can be turned off by hitting the B button during certain conversations.
I don't think you can turn anyone else off.
pherstothelee 06-07-2008, 03:04 PM I don't have the PC to play real Civ games, so I'll probably get this one. I don't know if I'll wait until the bargain bin or not though...

Hobo Hunter1001 06-09-2008, 05:36 PM My PC sucks so bad that I can't handle Civ 4, so I'm looking forward to this. I really liked the demo, although I missed the land development aspect of it.
sepercrod 06-11-2008, 03:28 AM I've been playing Civ games for years. I have mixed feelings about this game. The play a ton faster which is great for a legit "quick" game in under a few hours. But the actual gameplay has changed. You don't manage each worker, so you can't truly maximize as much as you could on the pc. Wonders seem to be greatly toned down. And it looks like the city size is only 8 total squares to maintain. Is that really on the final version?
Overall this looks like a future bargain bin game for me. Its fun to try a "different take" on quicker Civ gaming, most likely via multiplayer, but I think Civ4 is better.
Also I haven't seen anything about something someone mentioned about a Civ 5, but I have seen a return of Civ Colonies as a standalone.
darkwonders 06-11-2008, 03:53 AM Well I completely lost track of time when playing the demo. So that should tell me something about the game
I played the PC version of it a bit (Civ 4 that is) but I never really liked the micromanagement of RTS games. This seems perfect for me as I can quickly manage things. The last RTS game I remember playing was Rise of Nations
It was really fun... except for the micromanaging... :-/
I'll probably pick up this game when it comes out. I wonder if the PS3 version supports Mouse and keyboard? That would be sweet.

No mouse and keyboard. I dont know why but I have started to like this again. I might buy a DS for that version. It looks more like the PC version.

Heh, mine can't handle Civ IV.

What about CIV III?
Shaha44 06-11-2008, 03:02 PM I've got a PS3 and the demo came out last Friday, it is amazing! I cannot wait to pick this one up!
