As im sure some people have heard it seems some PS3 games can be played on PSP ie. Lair.

Has anyone tried it and if so how does it all work? ie do you just contiune your save and then trasnfer it back to your PS3 to contiune where you left off on your PSP.

This feature could for me be a reason for re-buying a PS3. Especially if they perfect it. I just think that maybe the PSP needs a re-design to make it like a DUEL SHOCK with a screen.

( 2 analog etc)

I can see a PSP2 coming out next christmas.

Any comments?

EDIT: Apologies but I wasnt sure what channel this belonged to. I thought PS3 over Handhelds due to it being percific to the PS3 but it could equally belong in both tbf

It runs but is "unplayable" simply because you are missing required controls... you can't dive/attack or do a 180 or even land because the PSP doesn't replicate all the control mechanics a SIXAXIS has.

This could come into play in the future though. The latest SDK includes the necessary tools for developers to implement Remote Play on the PSP or even use the PSPs display as a secondary display. The Remote Play is said to be responsive enough to play 30fps games well enough (60fps would probably be pushing the bandwidth too much). I would expect this functionality to be explored more in the future, but probably (at least initially) by Sony's first party devs... probably Sony Liverpool, they tend to be the first to try out a lot of tech and they're really sharp guys.

in an early PS3 Demonstration they used the PSP as a rearview mirror in a driving game. I would like to see more features like that in future games.
Or Stats, inventory items, etc.

I haven't mentioned it recently (or on SG.com) so I'll go into what I'd like to see... I'd like to see a "navigator" functionality of sorts... the PSP user would see like an interactive map of a battlefield and would "guide" the PS3 player strategically through battle or to cut off an opposing team. This would allow someone like say my dad to participate in gaming without the twitch pressure involved in the actual gaming. He can participate, yet isn't directly involved in the offense/defense, mainly just the strategy.

There are a LOT of things that could be done with this technology and as PS3s and PSPs get cheaper, people owning both will be more and more common.

maybe something like the [don't know the right word] other guy in a rally game, who's giving directions.

yeah sure. would be another way to bring in casuals.

Eh, I doubt you can port PS3 games to the PSP. If so, then why have a PS3 to begin with? Why not just buy PS3 games for transfer to the exponentially cheaper portable system?

I play High Stakes on the Vegas Strip on my PSP all the time... it's a PS3 game. I play it while my wife watches crap I don't care for... Remote Play FTW!

I expect more and more casual games on the PS3 to allow Remote Play support for play on the PSP.

Maybe a first person shooter with cross platform play. They could do counter strike with elves and then 3 useless classes. How could it possibly fail? </sarcasm>

No, they have to be specifically flagged as "Remote Play compatible". Lair is the only retail (ie. "disc-based") game that I know of that supports Remote Play (and I honestly think it was an accident)...

PSN games (PS3 downloadable games) are much more likely to work this way although recently all disc-based PSOne games were made Remote Play compatible.

The PSP doesn't "locally" play the games but acts as a "remote display" for the game playing on your PS3 via local wireless connection or an "over the internet" wireless connection.

I'd love to see a PSP2 with the second dual analog stick. What a great possible feature to be able to play PS2 and PS3 games on a handheld. Sure we won't see anything until 2009.
