View Full Version : Most time dedicated to one game?

What is the most time you've ever dedicated to one game? The game that you came home from school/work for weeks, months, or years straight, fired up, and showed your ownage to the world?

And, it brings up the interesting question of, was it your favorite game?

----

I've got two split about evenly. The first one was No One Lives Forever. It won many awards from many publications (Action GOTY I believe in around 8 different reputable sources), but no one played it because 1. It was rated Teen and 2. There was a chick on the cover. The multiplayer, while not stellar, was sucked in around an amazing small community of people who stuck together for years (and some still are).

The next one is Call of Duty. Sooo much of my life was spent on that beautiful game. My deteriorating grades from staying up all night and playing really showed for it. I played with a few different clans, including winning the COD United Offensive CAL beta season. I started getting really bad right around the time I bought a new mouse, and just stopped caring. Leaving the clan, I never have really have had the same experience since.

Guild Wars. The only game that I've been playing for such a long time. It's just so super-awesome and absorbing. But every game makes you bored eventually, and the same happened with Guild Wars... Oh, and to all WoW fans: I know WoW is better, I just don't lke paying for playing, that's why I've chosen GW.

I might have gotten sucked into Gears Of War, except that I got Rainbow six a week earlier and I just didnt want to put it down. I probably haven't played more than 2 hours of Gears since March.

Before that it was Battlestations Midway of all things.

Like many other gamers I was sucked into the world of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction... I've played it for roughly five years... Four years minus the few breaks I took from it. I used to come home and log into Diablo 2 and quest with friends for hours. I've reached levels in the high 90's and had perfect equipment more times than I'd care to admit.

The latest game to recieve my obsession is Shadowrun. I woke up at 9:30 yesterday and no one was home so I played it from 10 A.M. to 4 in the A.M.

Wow... I feel pitiful now.

I know I've not actually put more time into Crackdown than any other game, but it certainly feels like it. Hours upon hours of orb hunting hasn't helped my sanity.

Realistically, Skies Of Arcadia on the Dreamcast almost certainly wins this list. I've completed the game (well, the story - never done all the Discoveries) at least ten times, and the quickest I've ever managed was 39 hours.

I'm gonna have to say Dead Rising, hours upon hours of killing Zombies never gets old especially in survivor mode. Rainbow Six is catching up though.

Sadly, World of Warcraft.

I used to be one of those hardcore, elitist raider bastards pre-expansion. I had a mage with 162 days of "played" time. Then I had an epiphany and thought, "why the hell am I still paying for this damn game?" Then quit.

I am pretty sure Halo 2 is what I played the most. Something like 3000 ranked matches. And that doesn't count the useless 6 hour long glitch matches... Ahh good times, good times...

Next would prolly be Oblivion and WoW tied. With around 200 hours of play time, not including all the times I got really far and hadn't saved in like 3 hours, Oblivion might be beating WoW but I am not sure. Is there any counter or something you can get for WoW?

Right there with ya.

First week of WoW, 123hrs. (Knowing 1 week only has 168hrs...)
Had over 250 days played total.

Have been clean for over 2 months now!

Gears of War. That just hit a sweet spot for me.

Hmm... probably Final Fantasy VII on the ol' PS1 - I wasn't into consoles much until that machine came out - but I think by exploring all the nooks and crannies (being a yorkshireman, I like to get value for money) I managed to rack up well over 120 hours.

Recently, it has been Oblivion - got up to about 90 hours now (a mere blink compared to some of you, I'm sure) - but haven't played for a while.

My favourite games are either them, or the "simulation" kind of driving games - Gran Turismo (the only reason at the moment I can even contemplate buying a PS3), Forza Motorsport, etc etc - but I don't think that even completing those games tots up the hours like a good old RPG.

I'm just glad I'm too mean to pay every month for WoW - I think I would be homeless and destitute now (got a quid for an internet cafe, mister?)

I'm not sure if I would say that I'm addicted, but I know that I can probably beat the vast majority of people on Gunz. Damn those Korean bastards. ;) I'm a Pro K-styler. What up.

For single player in the past year it was gears... beat it on every level, but found the online multiplayer not that great... I know, I know... let the hate mail flow...

for Multiplayer action, Rainbow six is easily the winner. I picked this badboy up when it came out and I haven't put it down. Attack and Defend in the Calypso gentlemen....

I want to say WoW, as I've thrown at least 500 hours into that shitpile of a game...

...but I have a strange feeling that I've racked up more hours playing CS and CS: Source over the years. Good times.

I generally don't spend any time playing console games outside of initial playthroughs. The only real exception for me was Final Fantasy Tactics. I even finished a few SCCs. :>

While this is a pittance compared to some of the times posted here...The most time I have ever devoted to a game is probably the 70 or so hours I logged in Kingdom Hearts. A close second is all the time I spent doing that stupid code transfer for the LoZ: Oracle games. Playing each game three time through entirely, even getting all items, definitely takes up a lot of time.

the only one i can think of which is a accurate number of hours is Guild Wars.
Put 839 hours into that game. (According to the game)
Second it'd probably be Gears of hour. about 5 hours every day for about 5 months or so.
(probably more)
At the minute is Halo 3. which ive only came off for, The Orange Box.

Counter-Strike: Source

Unreal Tournament 2004

Well, since we're digging up this old topic anyways...

My top 5 of dedication to one game:

5000hrs: World of Warcraft (average 7hrs a day for 2 years straight)
1000hrs: Original Unreal Tournament (released in 99, played it 'till 2005-2006)
450hrs: Unreal Tournament 2004
350hrs: Diablo II
250hrs: CS:S
Other games include Half-Life series, CoD & CoD2, StarCraft, NWN, etc... but with less time spent on them.

These are all PC games.
I've played bucketloads of console games as well on NES, SNES, N64, GCube, PS1, PS2.
But hardly any of those will have peaked 50hrs, let alone 100.

Note:
This was all before I actually had a life :p
My gaming time has drastically decreased ever since /snif :(

Final Fantasy Tactics stole a good year of my life and the PSP version has sucked me back in. Then again, Final Fantasy XI has been an on-and-off obsession with me since it came out here in the US but I have to give the nod to Tactics because it was the first game that I actually skipped sleep and called into work to get more time on.

Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1. I think the game clock stops at 99 hours, and on my first playthrough, I Know I played it at least 30 hours past that. Then I went back and played it again a few months later to completion, then I started again and got halfway through.
The clock's not cumulative, but Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Shadow of Death is probably up there. All those 1/2 hour random maps add up.
I don't have the time or patience or interest to really do that anymore; after about 40 hours on the clock, I get bored and want to play something else; or if I stop and play something else after 10-20 hours, I rarely go back and finish. :(

I've put at least 300 hours into pokemon yellow. I didn't stop until I had every one and it was lvl 99. God...I had no life when I was 7.

I was 19 when the Pokemon games came out and (No joke) I bought a second Game Boy and the Red version to go with the Blue that I bought when it came out because none of my friends wanted to play when it came out and I wanted to trade Pokemon.

Blue was my main copy until Yellow came out. The idea of having a Pikachu that follows you was too much for me to resist. By then I was a hard-core Pokemaniac. I had the posters, the series on tape, the cards, I saw the movie the first day it came out, I only ate Burger King kid's meals when they were giving away the toys, I had the gold cards that came in the Pokeballs, I had all the action figures and plush toys...

At the time I had a girlfriend that probably thought I was a pedophile. She said only a pedophile would get that obsessed over a kid's show. Guess she'd never dated a nerd before.

Oblivion. Spent hundreds of hours on that game. Battlefield 2 and Halo 1-3 were also games I dedicated over a hundred hours to (not each for the Halo games). But most of all was a game most people haven't heard of, let alone played. Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Dedicated SOOO much time to that game it was ridiculous. Modding, community games and just plain duking it out in MP took command of my life for a long while. The pure fun of lightsaber battles was insane, with all the acrobatic moves and so on. I dedicated over 200 hours to that game at least. It was quite amazing IMO.

I left WoW, it got boring, I really don't see what is so special besides the fact that a crapload of people play it? The world is big and that is nice but it still gets boring. Also WoW is one big Dungeons and Dragons ripoff, and I don't mean the online game, I mean the paper and pencil game with dice. You have no idea how many of the moves in WoW copied moves that are in D and D.
