For those of you that like PC RTS titles, let me just say so far I am beyond impressed with this beta.
People have been whining about the mad amount o bugs. Gee sorry; I thought that was what a Beta was for. I can already say that this game probably won't blow up. Not because it is not worthy, but because the current PC gamer market can't hack it imo.
Three totally unique races...more so than almost any other RTS I ever played. The inherent strategy differences between them makes the game more than a challenge. To the point that switching between races requires a whole new set of tactics, skills and priorities...making online play that much harder. You can't just bounce back and forth and expect to be playing as well with each.
The units are 100 percent unique between the races. A nice tech tree setup...though a bit too inexpensive for my tastes. A touch of customization here, some ill super weapons there...all you need for a tasty RTS dinner.
You can play a defensive game...I'm sure I'll see more of this once bigger maps come out...but at heart things get fast and furious real quick. Sorry all you CnC fans but the good ol 'tank spam' ish tactics just won't cut it.
The simple fact that I expect this game to be difficult almost guarantees it will not dominate. The EA spread of RTS titles have amazing sales, but are almost all easy and lackluster online to say the least. Yet they sell. Tons.
Except for CoH and SupCom I can't think of another heart RTS title of the same vain of difficulty.
Now of course the game has a lot of work yet to be done...and will never have the polish a title like SC2 will have...but this title looks great. Now as long as they have a strong single player campaign, learn from the Supreme Commander mistake, they should do alright...if not great.
Oh yeah before I go...MuCk EA
Ahhhh I feel better now
PS And I personally judge RTS games by their online play...single plyr don't mean shit to me...but it does to some I guess.
