I'm at 99.5% in GTA4 and I brought it over to my cousins about a week ago... He went to take it out and his 360 gave my disk some sort of STD...

Can't return it, but I would be happy with just fixing it. I heard of some home remedies including Brass-o, Toothpaste, Rubbing Alcohol, and Spit...

Please help, Microsoft only replaces about 10 games under their scratched disk replacement thing, and GTA isn't on the list.

I'm getting the Liberty City Blues, and the only cure is GTA4!!!

I asked at my local game store if they have a debuffer or some sort of resurfacing machine, the guy said they just use rubbing alcohol, but I don't think its going to work, and before I try that I want some input...

The same thing happened to me.

2 options:

Use white toothpaste to fix it (ask The Beez how)

Or rent it from blockbuster and switch the discs.

Can I really switch the disks? Don't they put a tag on them or something? I might just have to try that...

Someone recommended buying their game doctor thing and claiming it scratched my disk, then demanding my money back and a new disk :) Your idea sounds better tho...

I don't think they mark them at all. I switched my GTA4 disc a while ago after I scratched it. It works pretty well.

The toothpaste seems more of a temporary fix, it worked for a while but it didn't stop problems completely (sometimes in mid game it would say disc unreadable).

That sounds like a perfect solution, but I wonder if I can fix it anyway and save a couple bucks? Anyone ever use Brass-o?

I have tried the toothpaste trick before. It didn't remove anything. In fact, it increased the number of scratches on my disc. I used white toothpaste (without the crystals), but maybe I did it wrong. Those "buffers" or scratch fixers usually compound the problem by adding circular scratches of their own. I suggest avoiding them.

If you try to switch with a used game from Gamestop, you might want to make sure the disk you get isn't scratched as well.

Hey, I just said xbox because my 360 scratched the disk, it's not an xbox thread, I posted in the lobby to get more traffic of people knowing how to fix scratched disks... mean mods, always moving my threads...

If I try the toothpaste thing, will my xbox be better protected from cavities? Ha ha, that was awful...

I am not sure how well the toothpaste thing actually worked. It definitely made the disc run better, but it did look like there was actually more scratches on the disc.

I, personally, have not had any problems using the toothpaste trick in fixing any of my discs when scratches start appearing. I've used it to fix several data CD's and DVD's along with numerous games. It's worked better for me than taking a disc someplace to get the scratches buffed out (had to do that with dreamcast games).

So how do you go about doing this?

Small dab of regular white toothpaste along the inner edge of the offending scratch. Taking a soft smooth cloth, wipe in a straight motion starting from the inside circle moving outwards in a straight line. Once you've done this, continue until you can no longer see the toothpaste smudges.

Let it sit for a few minutes then go ahead and try it in the console. Should work, always has for me. It's a temp fix, but it can save you some cash in trying to replace in a more... dishonest way.

Microsoft will only replace 10 games on their replacement plan... two of them are halos... none of them are GTA4

Rockstar won't replace im pretty sure? If I'm wrong please let me know.

I have heard some people actually claim that works.

Still, while I have you here...
Your title should be something along the lines of
"Bringing pointless posts and idiocy everywhere"
That is, if you don't get banned again.

Are you talking to me? I hope not... I thought we were close Waffle!

Anyway, I fixed the game pretty good... I had some old GameStop disk cream that I tried and didn't work, well after half a bottle and some elbow grease, its working again... I hope it's a perm fix...

I was talking to the guy I quoted. Have you been banned before?

And if you fixed the disc, it is probably only a temp solution. Thats what happened with the toothpaste for me.

No I have not been banned before.

Do your games smell minty fresh and have surprisingly low amounts of plaque? It must be working.

I think I got rid of the scratches pretty good... Games running fine and I already got 50 pigeons out of 200 I need for 100% completion... Sooo close, I really hope it holds up ok...
