There have been a number of reports that Sony will be releasing a new controller with rumble.

Well it's official. According to this story (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h0o1rMORMAWDqVjPwuKYtMhVpNhg)...

Hirai showed a new remote controller for the PlayStation 3, "Dualshock 3," that will vibrate along with games such as the shock of impact of a sword hitting an object or a race car swerving. Old games will require download upgrades.

The controller goes on sale in November in Japan and next spring in the U.S. and Europe, he said.

The second part of that is the kicker though. I've been waiting for the price to drop before I buy a PS3. Now, even if they drop the price to $400 in time for Christmas, I'm going to wait until spring of next year in the hopes that they'll start including the new controller in the box.

This is precisely the reason companies don't release this kind of news too early. He just screwed the holiday season for the PS3 in the US.

It's about time they include rumble the games seemed so un real without vibration, that said ps3 still has lot of problems to solve in order to try to get on it's feat agian -----(lack of games)-----

I'm glad they brought it back. It was there baby and they abandon it lol. Anyways your right they have alot of other problems to solve. I personally don't know how to fix them, but they need to get games out there that start to harness the real power of the Ps3 that is when the titles that will be better than any before will come out. I mean if you realy think about it the Ps3 has to power to produce the best games on any console "if" they can dig themselves out of this hole.

I think it the whole rumble situation is pretty sad. If Sony had admitted from the start that it was licensing issues that kept rumble out of the PS3 it might have made them look a little bit silly. Than them saying for ages that they had no plans for rumble, then making it anyway.

I am surprised though how big a lag time there is between anouncing it and releasing it. Spring '08 that is 6 months away. Is it really that hard to bolt existing dual shock tech into the new controller?

Yeah I remember that. But I have to fell bad for the people that went out and got 4 controllers without the rumble. Buying stuff is so last gen. ;)

Screw even spending $400 on a Ps3. Do you know how many games I could buy for my Xbox? It doesn't really matter because I'm just going to be playing Halo 3 anyways.

Its about time Sony got back in the times, so last gen my ass. Just because of that, there console feels last gen without out it. oh, the irony.

I'm pretty impartial to this... I personally don't think rumble is any more important than waggle... But I do like the occasional shake...

I'll probably import one from Japan... I'll need a 3rd PS3 controller for Haze anyways... And I need one for Warhawk too...

Dualshock 3 Rumble IS Next Gen

Shane from 1up describes the new rumble
Was watching the 1up Show this morning and Shane goes on to describe the new DS3 rumble at the 14:25 mark.

To paraphrase:

"I could tell where they where (Explosions) based on what part of the controller was rumbling."
"It believe its slightly better than the 360 rumble."
"Think about rumble in stereo."

I dunno, Shane is kinda iffy... He's cool, but I don't really trust him...

That was the whole problem in the first place from what ive heard. They couldn't figure out how to include both the rumble and six axis feature in the controller. As well as they couldn't determine how much battery life if would have with both the six axis and rumble going. i thought the whole built-in battery idea was sorta stupid in my opinion. what happens if the battery goes out...ya know!

anyways im glad to hear that ur making a new controller with both features....maybe ill think about buying ps3 now...lol! or ill just wait for God of War 3 and DMC4

DMC4 is coming to the 360 too...

I'm glad the six axis's/Dual shock 3's battaries are built in... makes it so much simpler...

If it was one thing I missed concerning the PS3 controller, it was the rumble. Not only was it enhancing the game (when done right, at least), it also gave the controller a nice feeling. I get the feeling sometimes that the sixaxis is a bit too "plastic". So, cheers for them bringing back Dual Shock.

On the 360 if the battery pack dies you can either hook up the charging cable or switch in a new battery pack.

When the PS3 controller battery dies you HAVE to plug it in.

But my controllers never dip below 3/4 full battary life so it doesn't matter...
