G'day Guys...

First off I would like to introduce myself. My name is Liam and I am a 27 year old Downhill Mountain biker, Surfer, Snowboarder, Graphic Designer from Canberra, Australia.

I recently bought my first house which allowed me to go pretty wild with a home entertainment system, which then lead me to getting a PS3 as it was the best way to get a blueray player.
Not being in to games much, I asked the sales assistant and the store which game should I get with the system, he highly recommended Call of Duty 4 as "Online play is going off". I thought to myself... online play hey, might give that a go. So I shortly completed the game to build up my skill level and then dived in to the online play... holy crap, I have never had so much fun! From someone who was never in to computer games and within three months developing a pasty white skin and bloodshot eyes... and here is the best bit, not listening to HipHop on my car's stereo (Subwoofers and all that jazz) anymore... but listening to the PS3 podcast from the boys at Sarcastic Gamer.

So now, I must confess... I have become a gamer. I am addicted to playing games. I can't wait to get home, plug in and take some time out playing online. This has lead me to buying a headset, the headset in question is a Gioteck EX01. I only quickly played with it last night but I was a bit dissapointed, I like listening to my games with the volume up, I have a pretty good surround sound system and like to take advantage of hearing the guys creap around in some of the maps. Now when I had the headset on last night, all I could hear was my stereo echoing through the headset... I have had a very quick look online and the only way I have read about combating this is to turn the TV down? Is there another way around it so I can enjoy the best of both worlds i.e stereo up and headset working with no echo?

Cheers guys!

PS. Good work on the PS3 Podcast! Look forward to it every week.

Can you get around that though? I am unsure If I am asking for too much here by wanting the best of both worlds... awesome sound + clean and direct voice chat? Do you think the bluetooth headset is the problem?

What are other peoples set ups?

If you're going to get into serious online gaming and an superb auditory in particular, I'd get surround sound gaming headphones. Since they are surround sound, they will allow you to hear every nuance of the game, which is especially helpful in hearing enemies approach. Also, since the audio of the game is routed along with the chat through the noise canceling headphones, you won't have any problem with getting feedback from your TV speakers. The headphones also come with a mic on them so it replaces your current headset.
If your looking for some good gaming headphones, I'd recommend the AXPros (http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/TRIGA611.htm). The only reason I reccomend these over the AX360s (http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/TRIGA600.htm) are that with the AX360s, you can't use the mic with PS3. Currently they are not out yet, but I've been in touch with some people within Tritton, and my sources tell me that it comes out at the end of August.
Hope this helped. Happy gaming

Unreal, with the USB headsets... how long are the wires on average, I have a big LCD TV and like to sit about 2m+ away.

Those other ones you mentioned Jacob sound good, I might have to wait for the PS3 ones to come out then see if I can get them to Australia.

Definitely hold out for the AX pro headset. It will be worth the wait. I don't see how the usb connection of Narutos head phones would have made a difference, the microphone is causing the feed back, not the blue tooth signal.

Cool, Anyone got any guesses on how much the AX Pro is going to be?

Once again, Just like to say I am pretty new to this... So sorry if I sound like rookie, but I am not getting feedback as such, not like a guitar/mic high pitch feedback where you would quickly rip the bheadset off and stomp on it like the b!tch it is... but it is just an echo, I say something... then a second later I hear it through the speakers of my stereo.

Could a slow internet connection be a problem as well? I do have ADSL 2 but sometimes things get a little lagged.

Thanks for everyones help so far.

The chord is 3.8 m long, so no problems there. I'm not sure what the price/availability is going to be like down under, but I think in North America they are going to be like $160.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It happens to me all the time, as I will say something, and then hear myself through someone elses headset. I'm not really sure what you can do about that with your current set up, but since the gaming headphones are all encompassing and noise canceling, then you won't have the problem of the headset mic picking up stuff coming through the headset speaker.

I had a play tonight with the sound down and that helped... So I am guessing the receiver in the headset is pretty sensitive to ambient noise.

Thank you Jacob for a link to those head phones, I have a surround sound system hooked up in my room, but not only do I have the problem of feedback, but I play late at night a lot and I still want to turn it all the way up, but of course that doesn't help other people who want to sleep.

Just found a link for the AXPro for the Australian Distributor and according to their site, it mentions they are due out July 08, so they must be close.
