View Full Version : Warhawk update 1.4
prcrew10 07-16-2008, 04:59 PM Has anyone played Warhawk today there has been a new update added that includes 2 new kick-ass game modes (Hero, and Collection). They are really fun to play and it really freshens up the Warhawk experience in my opinion more than 1.3 did. You can read about it at the Playstation Blog:thumbsup:
RaiseHavok 07-20-2008, 10:36 AM I haven't had the opportunity to download v1.4 yet. However, I definitely want to try out the new Hero mode. It sounds really cool. Collection mode sounds kind of cool, but I will probably spend more time playing Hero.
Nightkiller93 07-20-2008, 01:16 PM I downloaded the patch a few days ago but haven't played either of the 2 modes but they do sound cool.
Jacob816 07-20-2008, 01:42 PM I tried it out, and they were both pretty cool. Perhaps we should have another Warhawk gamer night next week with the new 1.4

It took me a bit to figure out why people would stand next to the "deposit" spot, but they were waiting for more cores. I didn't realize at first you could drop them to give them to someone else. Returning multiple cores at once leads to a bigger score... all four at once is 10 team points!
I do dig the "line on the map" tell you where to go... at times, it's pretty handy just to glance up there. I'm still digging the "riding in the APC or tank hammering on it with a wrench while in battle" aspect of the game. I feel epic to be the one keeping the war machine alive while my "partner" doles out destruction. I mean it's just so bad-ass to go one on one with another tank, point blank and whoop their ass because of the added wrench support.
prcrew10 07-21-2008, 04:43 PM Ive been spending most of my time on Hero mode, Collection is fun too but I don't think it works as well on the bigger maps. Hero just kicks ass even thoughI get so frustrated when it makes me the Hero and the fight is happening all the way on the other side of the map and I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere with no warhawks or any vehicles anywhere at all.
photomaster94 07-22-2008, 09:23 AM i tired them out. the are pretty good. i will be playing more warhawk when the home warhawk thing comes out

Collector mode is like a capture the flag mode except instead of one flag, there are multiple cores you have to pick up. As you pick up a core, you can return it to your base for a point. If you pick up two of the cores, you score something like 3 points, 3 cores is something like 6 points and all four is 10 points. When you pick up a core, your mini-map draws a line pointing to the core deposit station and everyone on the map can see your location designated by the core symbol. It's got a lot of the strategy and action of capture the flag, but spread out amongst multiple places. It's quite fun.
Hero mode is where one person on each team is "the hero" for a while, they glow their team color and lightning shoots from their body. They suddenly are equpped with a full arsenal of all weapons, maxxed out. A timer starts. The only way the other team can score team points (needed to win the match), is to kill the hero. Similarly, the only way your team can score is to kill their hero. The heroes always show on the map as a colored star. Your team is torn by a few members defending the hero while others go after the opposing hero. It's pretty cool. Also, the hero can take a LOT of damage before they die... if I had to estimate, I'd say ~3x normal. I took down a warhawk (with a hero in it) shooting me with the warhawk machine gun. i was using the rocket launcher and had to shoot 5-6 rockets into his Warhawk... I'd only taken about 25% damage. It's a pretty fun mode, but I haven't spent a whole lot of time playing it yet.
prcrew10 07-23-2008, 11:13 AM They should hurry up with achievments oops I mean trophies support:grin:
TheBrain76 07-23-2008, 11:19 AM The HERO actually gets about a x5 health. :)

I wasn't sure what it was, but man if you don't feel pretty powerful.

Agreed. I love running straight at a tank knowing that they're going to die. :cool2:
pherstothelee 07-23-2008, 11:25 AM You forgot to mention that every kill you make as the hero gives your team points.
Hero kills player = 1 point
Player kills hero = 1 point
Hero kills hero = 2 points
rothbart 07-23-2008, 11:47 AM I like that you can accumulate personal points, but it's the team points that rule the game... I know other game modes are like that, but having that 2nd tier of scoring keeps in interesting too...
prcrew10 07-23-2008, 03:09 PM The only not fun part is when your in the middle of a big fight and you have like 10 warhawks all firing at you while you try and shoot them down one by one with an RPG, not to mention the other teams Hero probobly shooting at you also.
pherstothelee 07-23-2008, 04:40 PM So, I was playing hero, which I suck horribly at, by the way. I'm wandering, and I find the binoculars. It's like 10 or so seconds until the end of the match, and the score's tied. I pick up the binoculars and just think, eh, let's try for one last kill. So I aim really far away (so far that I can't see where I'm pointing on the minimap) and I find one dude. By that time, there's just like 5 seconds left, so I'm just like screw it, and I lock onto him. So the guy blows up, and I get a message. The message says You killed the Eucadian hero. And that was the kill that sent the Chernovans to victory. What a happy accident.
