View Full Version : Resistance 2 vs. Killzone
Tweep 07-16-2008, 08:24 PM I have to say that while I am looking forward to both of these titles tremendously I am definitely starting to lean towards Killzone in terms of most eagerly anticipated. I think Resistance will be fantastic, but Killzone's videos jut seem to have a style, or atmosphere, that blows me away. Couple that with the just announced 32 player online (granted to Resistance's 64) and I'm a happy camper.
How are the rest of you guys feeling about these two or will you just push the question and by them both like I will be?

You should of made a poll.
Anyway just because it is out soon im going with R2 but i'll definatly be buying both.
naruto20 07-16-2008, 09:10 PM Resistance but im buying both.
Crazy guns in RFOM ftw.
Shane86 07-16-2008, 09:12 PM Resistance but im buying both.
Crazy guns in RFOM ftw.In Resistance 2 there's a magnum that let's you detonate bullets manually after you fire them :D

Im thinking the one in RFOM 1 does that already but you have to alt fire and then fire and then hold alt fire to fire the bullets in every direction.
Vertrucio 07-16-2008, 09:53 PM Both!
Both games have enough differences to their FPS style that I'll probably get and play both. Resistance 1 & 2 are a bit more focused on run and gun gameplay. There's still pacing and some cover use, but it's still more stand up fights. The best way to avoid damage is to quickly move around tall cover like walls and such.
Meanwhile, Killzone 2 is very cover based. You move from cover to cover, sticking to it. As such, use of low cover like low walls, barriers, etc... is encouraged.
Besides gameplay, there's also the art style differences. It's weird because while R2 has the more traditional Earth locales, it has actual alien invaders on earth with some pretty weird weapons. KZ2 on the other hand has the more gritty realistic designs and primarily bullet based weapons.

Beautiful. Well said and exactly on the mark.
Ala Douche 07-16-2008, 10:03 PM honestly, i'm not really looking forward to either of them... console FPS FTL! naw really though... i'm not looking forward to either. i played resistance one and just could not get into it, and R2 is looking to be pretty much the same (which is a good thing for those who liked the first). as far as killzone 2, it will never live up to it's hype, no matter how good it is.
Jacob816 07-16-2008, 10:14 PM I'd have to say that I'm leaning a little bit more towards Killzone 2. Its just that I like the realism in that game. Granted, both games are sci-fi master pieces, but like that dev doing the demo said, its like a gritty realistic environment, and the weapons and gameplay reflect it. Not that I don't like the crazy run and gun gameplay of Resistance, but I just prefer a little bit less crazy acardiness.
Bauer22 07-16-2008, 10:23 PM Well Sony seems to be supporting R2 and I guess Im kinda drinking the Kool Aid (Oh Yeah) with that. Also I never played Killzone but I played RFOM so I guess that has a bit to do with it too. I'll just wait to see what all happenes.
Kiljoy 07-16-2008, 10:43 PM I'm not looking forward to either of them, though my reason's are not quite as elogant as Ala's, I'm saving money, so yeah first comes schooling and necessities, then comes spending money, which is reserved for SOCOM and LBP.
Ala Douche 07-16-2008, 10:50 PM hehe i didn't know my reasons were considered "elegant":lol::lol:
but i'll definitely take it as a compliment!
DaDillsta 07-16-2008, 11:50 PM Resistance 2. Simply because Killzone 1 wasn't that appealing and Resistance and Resistance 2 look amazing.
Plus, you're in Chicago, you could find Lono's house even if it doesn't exist yet because its set in the 50's. :D
instant 07-17-2008, 12:43 AM getting both but I'm leaning to Resistance 2
blaclotus 07-17-2008, 07:29 AM If I had to pick, I would pick up Killzone 2. They both look phenominal, but I like the way Killzone 2 looks. I will wait for a demo and to see more gameplay but where they are at now, i will be picking up Killzone 2
Millakilla 07-17-2008, 08:26 AM I will be getting both for sure, But can't say which is the better looking so far because they both look awesome!
PopTrogdor 07-17-2008, 08:45 AM getting both, but im much more excited about Killzone 2 :D
pherstothelee 07-17-2008, 12:11 PM I'm excited for Resistance 2 because I love the story, but I'm excited for Killzone 2 because it looks gorgeous. I can't really say which one I'm more excited for though.
rothbart 07-23-2008, 05:07 PM Interface screenshots for Killzone 2... they're big.

PopTrogdor 07-23-2008, 05:15 PM nice piccys rothbart!
I just got Gamefly to help me play games I normally wouldn't ever buy (due to limited funds). Both these games fall under that catagory. I just got Resistance in the mail, so I'll see how I enjoy that one. But right now, I'm not the hugest FPS fan for consoles so yeah.... I won't skate your question though! I'm thinking KZ2, just because it seems to embrace 'added elements' such as cover more than R2 will.
rothbart 07-23-2008, 08:58 PM Be sure not to write off Resistance in the first hour or so... it gets progressively better (all the way through) and it's a fairly long game. It's worth the play through...

New gameplay footage of Killzone 2.
naruto20 07-24-2008, 01:58 AM I liked the story in resistance but i never played kill zone one on ps2.
Finch 07-24-2008, 02:21 AM Ill buy both, but R2 will be better I bet. I love Insomniac, everything they do rocks. So I have high hopes for this game.
nathanhale 07-24-2008, 08:55 AM Resistance 2 will be better. But they both look really good. I'm looking forward to Killzone 2 more in a way because now I finally have a game since God of War that I will play simply because it looks so good. In every other way R2 has been my obsession since the minute I destroyed that last energy rod on my first playthrough, and saw the art of intelligence finding mixed in with the military sci-fi story telling that was R1
heyfling 07-24-2008, 10:13 AM I think Resistance 2 will be the better game. I am planning on buying both games but I will probably wait to buy Killzone 2.
